Doon walked to the river and plopped down beside it. He looked my way and raised an eyebrow. "You coming?"
"Yeah… hold on."
I walked over and sat down criss-cross next to him and looked out at the river. It was sparkling… almost majestical. The brilliant sparkling blue water had the reflection of the sun glowing on it. I felt breathing on my neck. I jumped.
"Woah there Lina!"
"Doon! You shouldn't scare me like that!"
He blushed. "I'm sorry Lina! I… I needed to talk to you about something…"
"Oh, well what is it?"
"Well… well… I… I kind of…"
"Doon, spit it out." I stood up.
"Um… right… spit it out…" He stood up and grabbed my hands, still blushing.
"You're blushing Doon."
"Shutup! If you can't take me seriously I guess I won't tell you!" I could tell he was angry because of the tone of his voice and the way his face was red. He quickly dropped my hand and started stalking away. I felt a stab in my heart.
"No! Doon wait! I'm sorry! I didn't mean-"
I cut myself off, and grabbed his arm. He pulled on it reluctantly and glared at me.
"Doon! Please! Please tell me, I'm sorry!"
"Fine." He grumbled.
"Yay."
"What I was trying to say was… was that I… Well, Lina, I sort of like you… a lot."
"Really? I like you a lot too…"
"Yes really!"
"YES!"
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me towards him, then kissed my lips. I melted… I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled his head closer to mine. I never thought this day would come. I've known him since I was 12 and thought that he would never like me like that. Well now I'm 16… I guess some things CAN change.
We both pulled back for air. I could see him smiling widely, then realized I was doing the same thing. I layed my head on his chest so I could catch my breath, and snuggled into his warm body. I could hear his soft, gentle heartbeat. I sighed and closed my eyes.
"Hey, Lina," His gentle voice broke my daydream, "don't you think it's time to head back."
"Yeah… I guess…" I nodded silently, and tiredly.
"Okay, come on. Wrap your arms tight around my neck, okay?"
"Oh…okay." I wrapped my arms around his neck tightly. I felt him wrap one arm around my back, and the other one curled under my knees, lifting me up holding me in a bridal way.
"You're coming to my house, it's closer, and I feel safer. Now where's your cellphone?"
"In my coat pocket…" I mumbled weakly.
"Alright, darling."
I felt him reach into my coat pocket, and suddenly felt the emptiness of my phone not being there. I sighed and closed my eyes. I heard the gently tap-tap of him hitting keys on my phone. Must be sending a message to my new stepfather.
I awoke a few hours later in the dark, in his arms, in his warmth. I felt safe and loved for once in a long while. I yawned and pulled the blankets farther up over us. He moaned in his sleep, squirmed a little, then wrapped his arms tighter around me and nestled his head into my neck. I smiled sleepily and encircled my arms around his bare back, gently drifting back off to sleep.
The next morning I woke up and didn't feel or see anyone next to me. I got up, and automatically felt the cold, hard wood underfoot. I shivered. Where is he? I quietly padded downstairs into the kitchen and saw him making breakfast. I smiled to myself, and walked into the room.
"Goodmorning, beautiful." He smiled at me, and swept me into his arms, kissing my lips gently.
I wish it could be this way all the time…
