Can You Hear Me?

Max was crying.

That simple fact would've had people running and screaming because of the inevitable apocalypse.

For a girl who had every right to cry, she didn't do it often. Or ever.

She was crouched over an eerily familiar body and crying.

The body was me.

"Fang, wake up! Listen to me! You'll make it! Can you hear me?" she exclaimed before bursting into tears again.

The rest of the flock wasn't in better shape.

Angel was weeping at the accuracy of her morbid prediction. Iggy and Gazzy were beating the crap out of Dr. Hans, my undoer. My murderer.

Nudge was looking through the rows and rows of syringes and vials, probably looking for one called "Will Bring Fang Back to Life". It was hopeless though. I was gone. Forever.

"I'm scared." Max whispered.

Those are words that I never thought I'd hear her say. And it made me depressed.

I wanted to hold her and tell her that I could hear her. She just couldn't hear me.

Dylan was staring at Max the way I stared at her. I wanted to kill him.

The worst is that he would make her happy. Probably happier than I could.

"Max," I replied in vain.

She was stroking my hair now. And crying.

I was born a science experiment and I had died a science experiment.

The irony was not lost on me.

The life I had fought so hard to escape had followed me to, and caused, my bitter end.

I wanted to hold Max. And kiss her. And hug her. And fight with her. And follow her. And be with her.

I couldn't though. I never would be able to again.

When I looked at her dirt covered face, I saw her beauty and her hot-headedness and sarcasticness and my best friend.

My true love.

I looked at my surroundings, trying to find this bright light everyone fussed so much about, but saw nothing.

I couldn't bear to look at her sorrow. The tears that I caused by disobeying her orders to stay behind.

Nudge had given up and was knocked over a shelf of vials that scattered the floor.

Gazzy and Iggy crumpled to the ground in desperation, along with Max.

Dylan looked like he wanted to stop Max from talking to my lifeless body, but he remained where he was.

"No. You are not dying! Do you understand me?" Max demanded.

She searched the floor for something that would help and she grabbed a syringe at random.

She looked at what used to be me briefly before plunging it directly into my chest, straight into my heart.

I wanted someone to tell her that it was pointless, but I immediately felt a small tugging sensation.

The next thing I knew I was looking up at Max and I knew what had happened.

It had worked. I was alive.

Max started sobbing and the flock surrounded me instantly, even Angel.

Dylan stood off in the corner, looking dejected.

Max started kissing my cheeks and I said quietly, "Yes Maximum, I can hear you."

A/N: Well what did you think? Huh? I can't hear you. I guess you'll just have to review! So? What are you waiting for? Review already! Please?
