This has been on my mind for a while - I'd noticed that a lot of people had stories on how Luke would cope without Sarah Jane, but I hadn't seen any on how Rani and Clyde would, so I decided I should start writing, it's not very long, being only 450 words long, but it still took me a week to type properly. I hope it's okay.

We miss you Elisabeth Sladen, RIP.

It's not until three in the morning that Rani realises she's not going to get to sleep that night.

Sitting up, she reaches for her phone and keys before wrapping a jacket around her and putting on some shoes. She opens her door and sneaks down the stairs to reach the front door, opening it as quietly as possible; she slips outside and shuts it, before running down the road to sit on the bench in the back garden of the now empty house.

She couldn't believe it, when her parents gave her the news and she hadn't even had the chance to see, let alone speak to Luke. All she knew was that he was still in Oxford and was coming home tomorrow.

Rani hadn't seen Clyde; he hadn't answered the door earlier, wouldn't pick up the phone, and wouldn't reply to her texts. She knew it would affect him worse, having known her longer.

Sarah Jane Smith, the best woman (apart from her own mother) that Rani had ever known. And now she was gone. The one time Rani and Clyde couldn't help her, and now Rani would never be able to help her ever again.

Moving from staring at Sarah Jane's house, to looking up to the sky she sobbed; the tears in her eyes blurring the stars lying above her, but not yet falling.

"What are we going to do without you?" She whispered, "How can we save the world without you around?"

"We do what we always do, Rani," A warm arm covered her shoulders, and she moved in to curl herself around Clyde, "We do what she would want us to do," She looked up at him, and his hand moved to wipe the tears on his cheeks away, "We look after Luke, we save the world, we carry on. Just as she would want of us."

He leaned in, and placed his chin on top of her head, before moving down and kissing her forehead, "Rani, we can get through this, together we are stronger."

She leaned her forehead into his and their noses brushed lightly, "Why did this happen to her? What if everything goes wrong? What if-" Clyde's hand covered her mouth quickly,

"No more 'what ifs' Rani, we can do this; we just need each other, yeah?" He took his hand away, wiped away a few more tears from his face and stood up, before kneeling in front of her and taking hold of both of her hands, making her look into his eyes, "We can do this."

She sunk into his arms, falling into his lap; and finally let the tears fall freely.

Let me know what you think.
