7 Years Later…
"What can I get you?" The bartender asked as Emmett, Peter, and I stepped up to the open air bar on the beach.
"Eight lemonades, four frozen margaritas, and five coronas with lime, please." I answered.
The bartender nodded and went off to start the order as we turned back to stare out over the beach. The kids' laughter met our ears and I couldn't help but smile.
"You know mom has plans with the kids every night while we're on the cruise." Emmett said, making me chuckle. He'd said it like it was some big secret, but that was the first thing Esme talked about when she and Carlisle gave all of us this Disney Cruise vacation at Christmas.
When we'd questioned it, she'd told us it was so we couples could have the nights to ourselves, but when she'd gone to the bathroom Carlisle had told us the truth. As of August she would be kidless during the day, for the first time since Kinsley and Aiden were born, and it was freaking her out a little. He'd also warned us to expect even more requests for sleepovers and visits than normal.
Of course, we would oblige. It was just another change to our lives. Lord knows, we'd seen enough of them over the years, so really what was one more.
We should be thankful really, since all the changes that had taken place had been good ones.
My eyes moved to each family member as I thought about what the last seven years had brought us.
My eyes landed on Carlisle first. He retired from the hospital soon after Syd and Jack were born. We all knew it wasn't a great idea, being sedentary and not helping people wasn't his thing, but he'd said it was time. It had only taken six months before he realized we were right. Instead of going back to the hospital though, he decided to open his own practice. However, he went about it a different way, deciding to go to the people instead of them coming to him. No one was really sure about it until he asked us what was the last thing a sick person wanted to do. Of course, the answer was getting out in the rain and cold. It had taken a lot of word of mouth and a lot of red tape, but in just a year he'd defined a completely new way of doing medicine in the Seattle area.
From Carlisle I moved to Charlie and Jane, smiling as they laughed at something Rosalie said. Charlie was still an officer of the law, but he no longer worked the streets, having been promoted to Captain three years ago, and Jane was still at Bella's Studio. They weren't married, deciding that they'd both been there and done that, but they were living together. Bella and I teased them often about living in sin, but granted so had we so we couldn't get away with it for long.
I watched as Andrew ran up to Charlie and my thoughts turned to Rose and Emmett. He was still at the insurance company he'd been at since I met him, and Rose was also still with Bella. However, Bella had taught her how to take pictures, and now it was her and Jane who ran the studio. The biggest change for them though was their five year old son, Anthony. He'd been a surprise, but they and the rest of us had been overjoyed with the new addition to the family.
Then there was Peter and Charlotte, the ones with the most change. Just a few weeks after the twins were born, they'd come to visit and never left. It had been a good move for them, and as they said nothing was holding them in Texas. Peter was able to work from home with his job and Charlotte being a nurse could find work anywhere, that anywhere being at the hospital with Carlisle until he wooed her away to come work for him just a few years later. Plus, it allowed them to be closer to their nieces and nephews. And gave us a chance to be there when their little girl was born. Sarah was another big surprise, especially when Charlotte announced she was pregnant a few minutes after Rosalie did.
As for me and Bella things weren't easy with two sets of twins, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Her studio finally even out, but she was still so busy. It took a year after Syd and Jack were born for us both to realize she couldn't do it all. That's when she decided to leave the studio for Rose and Jane to watch over and stay home. She still took pictures but only by special request and when one of the others took a vacation. It was good for her and for the kids. She also still keeps up with Tia, who has quit traveling and settled into married life and motherhood herself.
Then there was me. I left the high school a few years ago. It wasn't something that I wanted to do, but more of something I had to do. A new principal had come in and for him it was all about winning, it didn't matter in what. I was threatened with my job more times than I could count when we didn't win our competition band tournament the first two years, and again when we came in third the next year. It quit being fun for me and my students, to the point that I barely had enough kids to make an assemble. I hated leaving, but in the end it turned out well. I got a job at a private school and I love it. All of the kids in the family go there since it's kindergarten through 12th grade, and I make a lot more money.
As for all the kids, they're doing really great too.
Andrew just turned thirteen and is an amazing kid and big brother. He loves sports and even though he's older his best friends are my boys.
Kinsley and Aiden will be ten in a few weeks and Sydney and Jackson just turned seven. Every day I look at them and wonder where the time went. All four are awesome kids though. They're polite, rarely fight, and love and stand up for each other no matter what. We talk about Edward and Alice often with all four of them, telling them stories and how much they would have loved them all. Kinsley looks just like Alice, and the poor thing got her height to. Syd and Jack are as tall as she is already and it drives her crazy. Aiden, on the other hand, looks just like Edward-complete with the weird color hair-and is almost as tall as Andrew. Sydney and Jackson though are a mix of both me and Bella. She has my hair color, but Bella's eyes and his is in the reverse with my eye color and Bella's hair.
Anthony and Sarah are two peas in a pod. They're inseparable, and have been pretty much since they were born just a few hours apart and placed in the nursery next to each other. Some of the nurses, when Carlisle stops by for a visit, still mention how they cried until they were put in the same bed. Now, if you see one you see the other.
"Here you go, that will be 55.50." The bartender said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
As Emmett paid, I handed Peter two beers and a lemonade.
"Here take these to Carlisle, Charlie, and Esme and send the kids over for theirs."
"Will do." He said picking up the drinks and walking off.
Once Emmett was finished, I slid the girls margaritas to him, and motioned him with my head. "Take those and I'll wait on the kids and then bring mine, yours, and Peter's."
"Got it," he said before picking up the four glasses and walking off.
I turned back to the bar and then asked the bartender, "Hey, do you have a pen?"
He handed over the one in his pocket before turning to help someone else. I picked up the first cup and wrote Andrew's name on it.
I'd just set it down when I heard, "Jasper?"
Glancing over my shoulder, I looked the woman standing behind me up and down and then had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing. While the years had been kind to me and my family, it had not been kind to Maria or I should say a plastic surgeon had not been kind to her. She'd had lip injections at some point and a boob job, both obviously botched beyond repair. And she'd gained twenty pounds. That wouldn't normally be a bad thing for someone her size when we were together, but when you stuff it into a bikini that is a few sizes too small it's not a pleasant sight.
I tried to ignore her by going back to putting the kids' names on their cups, but she stepped into my personal space and pissed me off as she said, "I knew it was you. What are you doing in Miami? Did you finally get out of that mess you were in the last time I saw you?"
Clenching my fist, I turned toward her, but before I could say anything the boys ran up.
Dad and Uncle Jasper came from the four of them as they slid to a stop next to me, but all eyes were soon on Maria.
"I thought one of them was a girl." She said as she snarled her nose at Aiden and Jackson.
"Two of them are." I said just as the girls appeared next to their brothers and Sarah stopped next to Anthony.
"God, how many kids do you have?" She asked.
"Four." I said, and couldn't help but smile at the loves of my life.
"Seriously?" She said. "At least tell me it's not with that who-"
"Don't even," I said cutting her off before she could say the word. "That is my wife and the mother of my kids and I promise you, if that word comes out of your mouth she won't be the one hitting you this time."
She huffed but wisely kept her mouth shut and I took the time to hand over the kids' drinks, wanting them far away from the waste of space in front of me.
I hurried them away, but not before I whispered to Aiden to send Bella over. I ignored Maria as I watched him run back to the area we were at and bend down to talk to Bella. I don't know what he said, but she glanced over her shoulder immediately and then was on her feet and headed my way the next second.
It took only a moment for her to make it to where I was standing, and then I finally turned my attention back to Maria. She was standing with her arms crossed, and giving Bella the evil eye. Bella didn't return it or say a word. Instead, she looked Maria up and down and promptly burst out laughing.
Her laughter started my own and it wasn't until Maria finally walked away in an angry huff that we were able to calm down.
"Oh God," Bella said as she wiped tears from under her eyes. "Did you see those things were pointing in two different directions?"
I chuckled because yes I did see that, and that one was much bigger than the other one.
"And her lips," she said, setting off our laughter once again.
When we calmed down for a second time, I pulled her to me and wrapped my arms around her waist as I said, "I love you."
"I love you, too." She said back before tiptoeing up and giving me a kiss.
When we broke apart, all I could do was stare down at my gorgeous wife for a moment. She was still the most beautiful women I'd ever seen, still the love of my life, and I was thankful everyday that I pulled my head out of my ass when I did.
"Mom, Dad come on." Aiden yelled, drawing our attention away from each other and back to our family.
Maria was forgotten as we picked up the last of the drinks and headed back across the sand to. As we settled next to the family I couldn't help but be thankful once again. Thankful that Bella had smiled at a little girl wearing yellow rain boots, and that I had groped a strange boy in a college classroom.
