Spencer really had never meant to take Wren away from her sister. But y'know how these things happen, right? Nobody plans any sort of infidelity; it just always sort of… happens. The way she clicked with Wren was completely unintentional, of course.
But after dropping him off at the hotel and having Hanna come pick her up, Spencer found herself no longer in contact with Wren. It was nothing that she made a conscious decision about. It was simply as though one day, he completely disappeared from her life.
And then it was as though he'd almost never been there in the first place. Sure, whenever Melissa brought up reasons why Spencer was a horrible sister, Wren was her main point, and Spencer found herself thinking about him and feeling guilty, despite the fact that she felt as though she had done very little wrong. But other than those unfortunate moments, he was the last thing on her mind, and she moved onto Alex—then off of him—in the blink of an eye.
Toby lasted longer, perhaps because they were more similar. Of course her parents—and let's not even think about Melissa—disapproved. They insisted that the two of them were just completely and utterly wrong for each other. By which, of course, they meant that Toby was wrong for her.
And apparently he agreed, because before she knew what had happened, they had gone from curling up and doing homework together, from talking on the phone about nothing until the wee hours of the morning, to Toby saying, "I don't think this is working."
Which is how Spencer found herself in her backyard, lying in the grass and staring up at the clouds one sunny spring afternoon. And when she heard a rustling in the bushes behind her, she sat up straight and looked around for the source of the noise.
"Wow. Spencer Hastings is relaxing? I thought that I saw a pig flying by just now, but I figured it was just my imagination…"
She squinted in the sunlight, though just hearing the voice was enough to recognize him. "Wren. What are you doing here?"
