New York smiled as she took another sip of her wine. At the moment, she was content with her life. And, for just this moment, nothing was wrong. There was no debt, no war, no hatred.
"Elena." Someone interrupted her thoughts. She turned to see her brother, Massachusetts.
"Hey Dev." She took another sip of her wine.
"Everything ok?" he asked, worried.
"Yeah. I'm just surprised you brought me here. I thought you were avoiding this place." she looked down at her feet, trying to forget the last time she was here with her brother. It was unpleasant, to say the least.
Devin cupped his sister's face and tilted her head up. "Hey, forgive and forget." He grabed her hand. "Come on." He pulled her from the small cabin, out past his car, and into the forest.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
"You'll see." he replied, ignoring her annoyed huff. Instead he let go of her wrist and grabbed her hand, giving it a tight squeeze. She rolled her eyes, but didn't pull away, which Devin took as a good sign.
A few moments later, they came to a large tree. Devin stopped and smiled at Elena. "Almost there." He said. Her mouth dropped.
"Almost there? Where are we going exactly?" she asked. His smile grew bigger as he let go of her hand. He reached up and took hold of one of the lower branches, and pulled himself up.
"Up." He stated. Elena laughed and shook her head.
"You're insane." She stated.
"Yep." he held a hand down. "You coming up?"
Elena rolled her eyes. "Nope." She pulled herself up. "Race ya!" She shouted as she continued up.
"Hey! Wait up!" Devin shouted, following his sister. He still reached the top first, despite being behind her.
"Cheater." Elena glared at Devin, a smile tugging at her lips.
"And you wouldn't want it any other way. Right baby sis."
"Oh shut up." she glared at him. "Now, why did you drag me out here?" she questioned, looking around.
"Look up." Devin ordered. Elena looked up. She didn't see anything except stars.
"What? I only see…What's that smirk for?" she asked.
"You'll see in," he looked down at his watch. "Three…two…one…now."
As if on cue, Elena gasped, before turning to face her brother. "How did you?"
"Luck." He replied. "You happy?"
She hugged him. "Very." She said, smiling as she continued to watch the meteor shower. Devin put his arm around her.
"Hey, New York."
"Yeah?" she turned to face him, only to find herself pulled into a kiss.
"Happy Birthday."
