A/N This is it, everyone; the last ever chapter of Restricted Access.

Rewriting this story feels like it's taken me an age and a half, and in a lot of ways I think that's true. But it's always been fun, discovering what was going on behind the scenes - which would otherwise not have made it into this story. I am glad it's over, though. It was time.

Thank you to everyone who has been with me for this quacky little story of mine. I hope you enjoy this chapter. :)

I'll throw in an email explanation in every chapter so there's no doubt as to who is who.

Eragon: nolotrjks. Murtagh: chiaroscuro. Saphira: sapphira. Thorn: ild_drage. Aksel: dAftpUnk. Vanir: V23_Th90. Arya: btrthnarwn. Nasuada: nas_blk. Roran: r_gson. Katrina: LadyLuck. Tornac: gnixes. Durza: drkshde. Shruikan: sh_darc. Glaedr: iMaestro.

Not all of these characters appear in every chapter, but there will be references or maybe even group emails sent to people. This way you can do a quick check to see who is who and who is being let in on what gossip.

Be warned. This is self-betaed.

RESTRICTED ACCESS

CHAPTER TEN

Nasuada considered her options carefully before going ahead with her plan.

Things had gone on for long enough. It wasn't that she'd suddenly joined Vanir's side or thought what he'd said had been appropriate. No, she still believed that Vanir had fucked himself over once and for all.

But maybe that was why she was willing to cut him some slack. He had to know how badly he'd messed it up. And if he was tentatively – or his version of it – starting to ask questions, then he'd seen the error of his ways. Maybe – at least she hoped – he was looking to apologise.

Of course, there was no way he could do that without getting close to Aksel. And that was where Nasuada could come in.

While Arya was otherwise occupied, she sent off a quick email and prayed for the best.

He's going to the cinema tonight alone because Saphira and Eragon are both sick and Arya can't stand horror. Carvahall cinema, 8 pm. Be there. Now is your chance.

::

She almost regretted it the instant she hit 'send'. Who was she to meddle, really? It was Aksel's life, not hers. People had been meddling in the affair far more than Nasuada strictly thought was necessary. Who was she to add onto that?

But she couldn't help but remember how Aksel had been, after what Vanir had said. He deserved closure.

Besides, if Vanir made it worse, then Nasuada would be more than happy to remind him why hurting someone's feelings was a Class A felony in their friend circle.

"Nas?" Arya called out.

Nasuada jumped. She hurried put her phone into her pocket and stepped out of the bathroom. "Coming!"

Now it was up to Vanir. And he'd better deliver.

-:-

Once was an incident, twice was a coincidence, and thrice was a gosh-ding-dang pattern.

That was a mantra Aksel had picked up somewhere – probably from TV. But where the saying came from wasn't important. What was important was the fact that it now applied to his life.

Suddenly there was a pattern emerging that hadn't been there before and he had no idea what to do about it. Other than text his friends for help, of course.

A part of him was really glad that Eragon hadn't immediately offered to come down there. Last time he'd seen Eragon, he'd practically been hacking up a lung. There was no way Eragon was in any shape to be going anywhere.

Not, of course, that something like that was a deterrent when Eragon was determined to do something, but Eragon had a boyfriend to fuss over him now. And there was no way Tornac was letting Eragon go anywhere while he was that phlegmy, thank the gaming lords. It would probably have been a health and safety violation otherwise.

thnx man.

::

Aksel took a deep breath and let it out. It was fine. Vanir had no idea he was there. Hell, Vanir probably wasn't there to watch the same movie as him.

Never mind that the next movie didn't start for another hour. Vanir was probably...just buying his ticket well in advance! Yeah! That was it, guaranteed. Aksel had nearly given himself a heart-attack over nothing. How silly.

He put his phone back in his pocket and squared his shoulders. All right. He could do this. He nodded to himself in the mirror and strode out of the bathroom.

-:-

"I have to go down there," Saphira insisted. She knew she sounded terrible and that half her words didn't have the right vowels, but she didn't care. Aksel needed her.

"You're not going anywhere," Glaedr said as he wrapped the blanket around her more tightly. "You're staying right here until you get better."

"But he -"

"Aksel is a grown man," Glaedr said and smoothed hair away from her clammy forehead. "He can take care of himself."

"But it's Vanir!" she said.

She knew Aksel. She knew his biggest weakness. Vanir was a walking, talking representation of every single weakness Aksel possessed. She couldn't allow them to be in a dark movie-theatre alone together. Unspeakable things would happen if she didn't intervene!

"And?" Glaedr put a fresh glass of juice on the table next to her mountain of tissues.

"Aksel's going to forgive him," she enunciated carefully. "I can't let him."

"That's up to Aksel, actually," Glaedr said and sat down next to her. "If they talk and Aksel decides to forgive him, that's up to him."

She tried to speak, but started coughing again.

Glaedr helped her sit up and rubbed her back with his big, stupid hands. She groaned miserably once the coughing fit finally ended.

"You're not going anywhere," Glaedr said softly. "And you're not going to text him nonstop. If something happens tonight, then it's because Aksel wanted it to. We owe him to let him make his own choices."

Sometimes Saphira really hated how rational Glaedr was. Didn't he know that some friendships defied rationality?

Glaedr kissed her forehead. "Come on. You're due for another round of cough syrup."

Saphira groaned.

"Hey, it's not all bad. You get to have juice afterwards."

"Not helping," she told him.

Glaedr just kissed her forehead again. "Come on. The sooner you get better, the sooner you can bug Aksel all you want."

Saphira scowled at him. "Fine," she croaked. "Get me that goddamn cough syrup."

Glaedr smiled at her. "You got it."

-:-

"Your sister terrifies me."

Aksel tried very hard not to choke. "Same, dude."

"Don't call me dude," Vanir sniffed.

The movie had been epic. There had been just the right amount of trope-y and cliché, just the right kinda music to set the mood and a good dash of gore without making it seem like they were trying to compete with Tarantino.

He hadn't actually seen Vanir in the theatre during the movie itself, but there was no doubt they'd been to the same showing considering they'd practically run into each other upon exiting. Never had Aksel wanted the floor to open up and swallow him more.

But now the movie was over and Vanir was still there. He was talking to Aksel, even. Aksel had no idea what to make of it.

"Didja like it?"

Vanir crossed his arms. "It was no Alien, but it was passable."

"Dude," Aksel stared at him. "Ya can't compare every horror flick to Alien. That's just unfair. The lightin', the music, the colours, the CGI. It's the best. 'n' that's without mentionin' the actin'."

Vanir's heavy stare made Aksel want to burrow into his hoodie and disappear.

"Indeed," Vanir said finally.

Aksel could only hope he wasn't blushing as much as he thought he was. "I like horror movies. So sue me."

Vanir just kept staring at him. Aksel was tempted to brush at his mouth, in case a rogue popcorn had gotten stuck somehow. Or maybe there was a smear of chocolate somewhere. Somehow he was always a messy eater when it absolutely benefited him the least.

"Would you like to go somewhere and discuss other movies of the horror genre?" Vanir asked so suddenly that Aksel almost jolted.

Aksel blinked. "Uh...sure?"

Vanir nodded sharply. Then he turned on his heel and started walking.

Aksel stared after him until Vanir seemed to realise he wasn't being followed. "Well?" Vanir looked back at him. "Are you coming?"

Aksel almost stumbled over his own feet in his hurry to follow.

He had no idea what was going on, exactly, but...he was willing to figure it out.

"No," Vanir said shortly and got up from his computer. "I will handle it." He activated the screen-saver before grabbing his phone and stalking off in the direction of what Aksel had come to learn was the bathroom.

Aksel blinked after him. That hadn't been anywhere near what he had been about to ask.

He had no idea what was going on and he wasn't sure he wanted to know either. He eyed the computer briefly before shaking his head. One, he didn't know Vanir's password and two, it was probably none of his business. And even if he was curious, something told him Vanir wasn't going to be the person to ask.

Considering the offended sounds he could hear coming from the bathroom, Vanir definitely wasn't the person to ask. Ah well. What was life without a little mystery, right?

A/N As someone that has set their foot on multiple campuses around my country, I'm well aware of how hysterical that last sentence is. College is many things, but it is rarely grand. (If your experience was different, then I commend you for managing to find such a diamond in disguise. I hope you held onto it well.)

I'm sussiekitten over on Tumblr if you want to keep up with my writing and any general life-posts I occasionally make. I mostly just reblog whatever I like, but Tumblr is where I talk about any fics I'm currently writing or are planning to update shortly.

But that is all for now. See you again next time. :)
