"Tate, they're coming." Terror held her like a vice-like grip. "What if they..."

"Kill me?"

A ghastly whiteness spread over her face. "Please... Just promise me you won't do anything stupid."

"I can't."

The warning sounds echoing in the distance, they knew it wouldn't take long. Her eyes staring in disbelief, Tate's thumb pressed against the side of her cheek, lips slightly tugging upwards. "Hayden, I-"

Abruptly, the door opens with weapons drawn, the love-struck teens, almost in a trance steely stare. Target pinpointed, lasers were then aimed, he grabbed her around the arm, just long enough to fix his eyes on hers this time dead square and as intense as anything she had ever seen.

Tate smirked and turned back towards officers, lifting his hand up to create a gun motion to his head, he suddenly lunged forward.

The sound of the guns going off ripped through their ears as if they were right next to a fireworks display, listening to it go off, with no protection. The echo of the ear-splitting 'bang' carried on for a good ten seconds before everything became still.

Eyes casting sideways, the lifeless body of his companion laid motionless, eyes wide open, Hayden was caught in the crossfire. Tate's heart spiraled into a deep abyss, shattering the warmth and confidence from within, quickly the feeling of security diminishes, wherein shame and confusion fills in their absence.

Tension in the room was high enough as it was and the feeling of not really being certain if she was alive did nothing to dissuade him unease, neither did the officer's constant questioning afterwards.

"Why did you do it?"

Diverting his eyes at them, Tate willed himself to give them one last look, one last passing glance. Almost wanting to willed himself to convey a simple message, he felt his heart go still.

"Why do you fuckers need to know everything? Why do you need to know why anyone does anything? One thing goes unexplained and you wrack your fucking mind and body for it, for any inkling of an answer. You'll go crazy with confusion. What if there is no reason at all? Sometimes the simplest explanation is no explanation at all. Go ahead! Wonder why a simple kid like me did something so horrific. Dedicate your entire life to figuring me out, you half-witted imbeciles. I dare you."

But, by the time he came to a decision, he was already gone.
