He lifted a rogue curl away from her forehead, and pressed a gentle kiss in its place, bringing her close to him. River had missed being this intimate with the Doctor. She reached over and entwined her fingers in his, and he leaned his forehead against hers.

"You've had a bad day, haven't you?" he said to her quietly.

She swallowed thickly; nodding into him, because what she had seen that day could not be described with words, and even thinking about it was enough to bring the prickle of tears into her eyes.

The Doctor pulled her on top of him, and gave her a sweet peck on the lips, leaning back and bringing her with him, until his head was resting against the arm of the sofa. He put his arms around her waist, drawing her even closer, and she was lost to a sea of kisses.

She willed away any possible thoughts of him being gone, and focused on him being there in front of her. Her Doctor.
