"Ace, I'm scared," said my little brother
"It's okay, Luffy, no one's going to try and hurt us anymore." I said – even though we both knew I was lying, "Let's just get some sleep okay. We're both going to need it in the morning."
"Ok," he said as he yawned and fell asleep in my lap
As I watched him sleep, my eyes started getting heavy. I almost succumbed to the darkness, but stopped, knowing that They could still be near. But I fell asleep anyway knowing that I would have a nightmare about the event that only happened hours ago. The event that changed our lives. The event where They came. The event where They killed our parents and almost us too. The event where my brother and I were left all alone.
A Few Hours Ago
It was just a normal afternoon and Luffy and I were playing Mortal Combat vs. D.C on our XBOX360; and of course I was winning. I was Batman while Luffy was The Joker, and with one final punch I won. Luffy stared gaping at the TV while I did my happy dance.
"No fair, you cheated!" Luffy yelled pointing at me
"Did not," I replied, "You just suck!"
"Well, I'm glad you agree with me." I said with a smirk on my face.
"Hey! You tricked me, you cheated and tricked me." Luffy said pouting
"Boys, boys enough with all of the racket. It's time for dinner." Interrupted our mother. She had long mid-back pink hair and reddish hazel eyes.
"Food!" Luffy and I yelled as we ran to the kitchen - game totally forgotten.
"Ace, Luffy, stop running around the house. You're going to break something." said our father as he saw us run inside, pushing each other out of the way.
"Yeah, yeah, preach to someone who cares and let us eat." I said
Bonck! That was the only sound you would hear as our mother, Rouge, hit me on the head with a pan as she said, "You will not talk to your father like that young man." Luffy laughed, "And you don't laugh at your brother at the table or you'll be next."
Luffy was silent.
After a few moments Luffy and I started inhaling our food like vacuums and we (the whole family) started talking and laughing happily.
It didn't last very long.
Someone knocked on the front door of the house. Dragon, our father, looked out the kitchen window to see who it was, and gasped as he commanded, "Rouge, go hide the kids upstairs." Before she could even ask why, the door was kicked in and all hell broke loose.
Dad grabbed a gun from the top of the fridge (not a very smart place to hide it in my opinion) and started shooting the men who came into the kitchen. Rouge covered our eyes as she pushed us up the stairs, into our bedroom, and into our closet.
"Hey mom, what are you doing, why are there-"
"Take care of your little brother, okay Ace." said our mother as she interrupted me and pressed a button behind me that you wouldn't notice if you hadn't known it was there. A hatch opened up. The sound of gun shots rang down stairs.
"Mommy what's going on, what's happening?" asked Luffy - eyes already blurring with tears.
"Everything will be alright Luffy, here," Mom said as she grabbed a stuffed reindeer doll that was on Luffy's bed and said, "Tony Tony Chopper will always be there to scare your fears away, always keep him by your side no matter what, okay?"
"Okay Mommy," Luffy said as he sniffed and wiped his eyes, giving his mom a huge smile, knowing it might be the last time he ever saw his mother again. "I love you!"
"I love you too Luffy and you too Ace." She smiled, kissed us both on our foreheads, and pushed us down the hatch.
The last thing that we saw was our mother's bloody smile as she got shot in the back of the head.
