Ch.15 In the End
The first plane ride from Russia to New York was boring since she had nothing to do, Pan made sure that all the alerts when to her instead of Terra for the three weeks. With nothing to check, plan and monitor Terra was free but her little one was still very much asleep, gosh she never been this bored since before Gaara….
Looking out the window out into the clouds she reaches over petting her fingers through his hair, great now she was thinking about him; she always did her best not to think about the redhead but every now and then he would pop into her head, reminding her that she should have been said faster…
Every now and then she would hear of Gaara or see him in the tabloids dating many women and still doing everything he could to rebel against his father but he had soon lost the interest of the tabloids and she hadn't heard of him since…but that didn't stop her from ever sitting back and thinking of him.
The next flight from New York to Texas was a lot less boring, her son had woken up and they spend the time playing and chatting. She did her best to make sure he enjoyed his childhood and that he didn't grow up too fast, these were the times she loved her baby boy was very creative.
"Why do you hate going home?" Terra paused and looked up from the game of sorry they were playing to stare shock at her son.
When did he get so perspective? "I don't…hate it per say…" She winces.
"Then why don't you like it?" He asked as he flipped the card over before moving his yellow piece five spaces.
She clicked her tongue as she picked up her card, three spaces back, she narrowed her eyes how ironic. "Remember what I told you about grandma?"
He nods looking. "Yeah that she's in heaven."
"Yes and what else." She smiled kindly.
"You felt that it was your fault." He responded but she could tell he didn't understand. Sweeping the hair from his eyes she sighs, he was still only a child, he'll understand once he was older.
"Yes I do and feeling like that make mama sad and that she doesn't want to go home."
"That's not good, family is supposed to help you when you're sad, and all of your family is in American." He frowned but it made Terra laugh.
"America," She corrected his English was good but he still confused words. "And you're right, it's not good."
"That house is very tiny." Kazimir mutters from her lap as they stared at her childhood home.
"No, it's just our house is really, really big." She snorts into his neck making him giggle. "It's a big enough house."
There were pink and blue balloons all outside on the mailbox, even archway of balloons along the front door. Cars filled the street and driveway, her limo felt out of place and she felt overdressed, this was her down to earth family, her humble beginnings. She was absolutely terrified this feeling was worst then standing in court and facing down bloodthirsty lawyers and greedy company owners; She actually rather be doing that
Terra looked to her drive as Sunny gave a kind and patient smile through the rear view, it was Kazimir that grew impatient and bored. Without much of a word the little boy climb over his mother lap and opened the door hopping out, dashing to the front door.
"Kaz!" She hissed quickly snatching her bag up she tossed a look to Sunny. "I'll call you! Kaz wait stop!"
Her son ignored her as he went to the door and all but kicked it down with a shout "Where the babies?" in his thick Russian accent.
All the noises in the small house stopped as Terra came clopping up behind her son, freezing at all the eyes on them. Blushing she looked down as she brushed back Kaz's hair. "I'm sorry um I hope I'm not too late?"
Suddenly there was a stampede of family they all crowded them, cooing to Kazimir and poke and prodding her, as they were ushered in. Terra always knew her family loved her and it was her that was pushing them away but to have them crowded her with love and excitement, she found it a bit hard to swallow.
"Ok, ok break it up, let them breathe." The voice broke through the crowd their hand clapping and parting the sea of bodies.
Terra felt her lips stretch into a wide smile as she looked up at his tall form, that boyish smile now a wolfish grin his eyes shining with pride that only a new prod father can pull off.
"Kabuto." She greets before being swept up in a hug. She paused for about a second before wrapping her arms tightly around him.
"It's been way too long." He murmurs squeezing tighter. She still couldn't believe he married Katy, they meet during the "fallout" she couldn't tell who was smitten with who first it was nothing but harmless flirting on his part and a whole lot of blushing on Katy's part but they kept in contact all through college before Kabuto made the move to America to get serious, a short two years later, Terra was a maid of honor to a beautiful bride. That was also the last time she spent with them, holidays on her part were short-lived and she never stayed more than an hour at most.
Pulling back Kabuto held her by the shoulders looking her over before turning his attention to the boy behind her. "Ahh my gosh look at you Kaz, the last time I saw you, you were this little." He pinched his fingers together which made Kazimir squeal.
"I never no small like that!" He stumbled over his English but puffed out his child.
Kabuto laughed and held out his hand. "How about we go get something to eat yeah?" Terra smiled as she looked at the two, even if Kabuto and Katy were his God parents they haven't seen him since he was two, that was at the divorce.
Looking down she bit back a sigh, she was a terrible friend even after all these years they still hang with her family, hell they were her family. Her thought didn't get the chance to spiral downward when Kabuto slapped a large hand on her back making her yelp and stumble forward.
"Fair warning." He saluted before walking off.
"Fair warning of what?" She snapped rubbing her back when another voice spoke up.
"Make way make way!" Terra saw the belly before the person, round and full against the shirt before looking up to the pissed off face of Katy. "You missed my whole pregnancy!"
Katy yelled before beating Terra with her flats. "Bad friend, bad Godmother! I'm nearly due! And why are you so thin have you been eating? Don't you dare lie to me! How many drinks have you already had?"
"Hahah, you have another four months and you already nagging, poor Kabuto." Terra laughed as she fens off the attacks. She knew she missed a lot but to miss her best friend's first pregnancy when she was there for hers was a low blow. "Ok, ok I', sorry Katy, I mean it! I... I'm going to be around more I swear."
Katy held her shoe above her head, her bottom lip in a pout with red-rimmed eyes. "Damn straight you will be! Cause if you didn't come I was declaring war on you after I had popped this sucker out! You're not allowed to miss birthdays and holidays anymore and no more one hours stay!"
Hitting her with her shoes once more Katy pulled Terra into a hug as close and as tight as she could since her belly was blocking the way. "I promise, now let me look at you, you look…"
Glaring Katy crossed her arms. "Like a tired hag!" She snapped rubbing her belly. "I would so glad when this is over!" She looked tired and completely done, Terra felt sorry for her and a bit worse for not being there when Katy first pregnancy hasn't been a smooth one.
"Don't worry, the second won't be as bad you'll know what to expect." Finally, her Aunt Jamie came waddling into the scene, she was much larger and a bit pointier than Katy perfect round belly. "Trust me this time around seemed better only because I knew what to expect."
"Or it could be a lot worst." An older female cousin with four known children, sniggered as she passed by.
"Nope, won't happen cause I'm going celibate." Katy grumbled.
"Wait what?" Kabuto poked his head out of the kitchen with a wide eye look.
"Get back in the kitchen you Pokémon!" Katy yelled in hormonal agitation.
Terra laughed she honestly had no idea what she was so afraid of, being in this moment she couldn't think of why she stays away for so long and she realized just how much she this carefree atmosphere. This is what Kazimir needed to grow up in.
Before she knew it five hours had flown by filled with stories of the past and thing she had missed, it was as if she never had been gone. Even Kazimir was getting along with the kids despite his accent and broken English, so when the topic of who would be the extra order of food from the deli she immediately volunteered.
It was the least she could do to be further part of the family she missed, of course that meant taking nearly half the kids since "it would be so cool to ride in a limo".
"Don't run and only one thing each." She called after the herd of stampeding children as she made her way to the bakery.
Looking down at her phone she sighs, nothing not even a text or email proclaiming any of her companies needed her help, Pan was nice enough to give updates but nothing major. Gosh has she really became that much of a workaholic that she was clueless about what to do without it.
Clicking off her phone, she sighed once more before bumping into something that just walked out from an aisle. "oh my I'm so sorry!" Looking up terra stomach dropped as green met teal color eyes.
Her whole body froze as her heart dropped into her belly then rocketing back up before getting stuck in her throat. What were the chances she would run into this person, in America and Texas of all places!
"Terra?"
Blinking she shook her head. "Tem-Temari." She breathing but it was more out of fear as she looked around them, she didn't see anyone else but who's to say they were close or not?
What if someone sees them? What if paparazzi had followed Temari and they get a picture of them together, then all these 8 years would be for nothing the home and kingdom she built for Kazimir all gone!
"It's been so long." Temari smiles stepping forward for a hug but Terra took two steps back.
"What are you doing here?" She hissed glaring.
Taken back Temari frown before her face soften. "I'm here on business."
"In Texas? Don't get me wrong Texas is a melting pot of people but your chain and your fathers would be in this area." Her heart wouldn't slow down, it was like it was getting hard to breath and the blood rushing to her ears.
"True but I'm not here for me." Terra's mouth went dry, was He here? What if he was? How would he react? How should she react? When Terra followed Temari's eyes she saw a young man no older than them standing not too far away. She recognized him as Nara, she didn't know his first name but she knew of their company, they were investors known for they scraggiest mind in figuring out if a business was worth something to invest in or not, they were all over the stock market though they were also known to be very…uh...chill.
"Oh…I see." She mutters swallowing thickly, the Nara was dressed casual but he kept his eyes on them both, it was clear that these two may be a bit more than just business partners.
"Look Terra I gotta tell you something." Temari took another step closer her eyes sad yet she has a small smile on her lips.
Shaking her head Terra moved passed Temari she couldn't risk getting more involved with the Sabaku's, Rasa and his damn mother made it clear she is too stay away from them and especially Gaara.
"No, you can keep whatever new you have, I have to go." Terra passes Temari nodding to the Nara.
The oldest Sabaku wasn't one to give up easily as she rushed after Terra. "Please Ter wait, it has Gaara."
Her heart leaped at his name and once again looking around for any signs of crimson hair. "No Temari just stop. Ok, it's in the past it's dead and time to move on. I'm sure he got like twelve different girl waiting on him, plus the marriage was a fake so just let it drop; it was nice to see you again but bye." Rushing faster she went to the bakery counter calling up the order she was supposed to pick up. Temari was kind enough to wait until the order was in her hand before going after once more.
"Terra just stop and listen, it's important Gaara."
"No Temari you listen, I have a life and it good, I'm happy. What I don't need is your crazy ass father and his mother on my ass!"
"No that what I'm trying to say Gaara is.-
"Mommy, Mommy can I get this please, please!" Temari was cut off but a blur of orange hair. Kazimir was bouncing pulling at her skirt waving a game he wanted, she could see the other hoard of children making their way to her.
Terra's heart was beating so fast she was surprised it hasn't given out yet! She could see the shock in Temari's face as she stared at the small boy who finally took notice of her. She could see the way the blonde's eyes searched his face before looking to the side as of doing math in her head.
"He's not." She hissed, Terra was sure what hurt her more the fact he wasn't Gaara's or the fact Temari would assume she kept a secret like this from Gaara, if he was his son.
That wasn't the case, it was more along the line of all the hoops she had to go through, to keep her son out of the press and scandal of her divorce, only close friends and companies knew and if they ever spilled the bean they had Baba Yaga to answer to.
Without a word Terra turned and left rushing to the checkout, she wasn't sure what half the children got or even prices as she swiped her card. She was just glad that Temari didn't chase after her, she would guess it was the Nara doing.
Either way, they made it back to the baby shower without incident but Terra was rattled, the rest of the stay and the flight back, was her on the phone searching tabloids and new streams for any signs of Kazimir on the front page, any signs of a scandal being brought up about her.
Thankfully after about a month Terra began to relax, much to Pan's relief the woman was going crazy with worry. Yet no sooner that she began to get back in the grove, Mr. Aikawa once again started blowing up her phones and emails, sending in his assistants requesting meetings and merges. Each time she declined them he sent another, sometimes two to three in a day! It wasn't like she could put a restraining order on him because the bastard was never the one to show up, it was always a different assistant! How many did this man need?
The running joke in the office was that he hired people just for this cause, either way she just wanted it to stop!
It was when she was visiting America on the day her Goddaughter Iva was born, that she drew the line.
"Oh my goodness, she's so pink!" Terra cooed at the small bundle, her son tugging and whining wanting to see the baby. "Thankfully you look like your mama."
"Hey she has my hair!" Kabuto huffed looking more tired than Katy.
"And let hope she doesn't have your eyesight!"
"Katy!" Kabuto whined when there was a knock at the door.
Frown they all looked to one another, Terra was the last one to see the baby and the nurses already made their rounds.
Giving the baby back to Katy Terra, volunteer to open the door what she saw pissed her off.
"Oh my gosh, I said no!" She hissed at the man in a nice blue suit, he looked annoyed but still shoved the papers at her.
"Ma'am please do us both and the whole office a favor and meet him." The assistant groans, Terra did recognize him he was one of the first few that use to come. It seems like he recycling through his list.
"Terra who's there?" Katy asked from the bed.
"Someone who's leaving!"
"Ms. Volkov he won't stop, just once-
"Wait, wait is this those assistant that Mr. Ass keeps sending?" Katy asked shocked before she glared. "He sent someone to my hospital room on the day my daughter born to hassle you!" She shrieked.
"Katy calm down-" Terra began but was cut off by the new mother.
"Calm down, calm down, tsh Kabuto hold my baby!"
"I got your baby! Kick his ass babe!"
Passing her daughter over with gently quickness before kicking off her covers.
"Don't encourage her, Katy no get back in bed."
In the end, it took Kabuto and two nurses to put Katy back into bed and shoo off the male assistant and a 30-minute ear full of her telling Terra.
"Just meet the bastard!"
So Terra caved in to meet him with an exception if everything wasn't what she wanted Mr. Aikawa would leave her alone for good. Jumping at the chance, Mr. Aikawa even offered a 75% royalty of his company while investing nearly 90% of all his earning to her Baba Yaga vodka company.
Terra wasn't greedy she had everything that she needed, but peace from this man, nothing he could say would win her over. So the date and time was set and Terra wanted nothing more than to go home to her son and cuddle him with a nice glass of wine.
Looking out the large window that took up most of her office, at the forest-covered mountain, she tried to push the feeling of dread away. This Mr. Aikawa was a weird one, who's to say what he really wanted and if he would really stay away from when she declines his many offers, plus no one has seen him in person before, yet he's coming here?
Rubbing her eyes swirled her large chair back around to her desk, chugging the last bit of her wine while ignoring the piling papers, she rested her head on her arms against the with a groan. She still had time before the meeting may be a small nap? Hearing the door open Terra raised her glass asking for another round of wine from another investor wishing to do business.
"Pan, would you be so kind?" She asked wiggling her glass.
What she was not expecting, was a large warm hand to lightly hold her wrist to pour the drink; instantly she knew it was Mr. Aikawa, annoyed that he wasn't announced to come up yet and the fact he seen her face down on her desk asking for more wine!
The imagine what was built her wasn't a strong one! Damnit!
"Uh, Thanks ahem..." She muttered sitting up fixing her hair without looking up in his direction, bring the glass to her lips she was shocked to see white crème, Milk!
Snapping her head up at him, her stomach soured and her heart dropped into her stomach before breaking on the floor.
That smirk on those lips, eyes shining with smugness, that scar…
"Finally" Gaara murmurs in that voice. Sweet lord, have mercy on that voice, it was pure temptation!
Her mouth was dry she couldn't all that came out was a wispy breath that only made his smirk deepens.
Shocked and speechless she could only blink, Gaara stepped back straightening suit coat as he placed the bottle of crème down. Pulling off his black with red pin strips coat and tossing it over the chair revealing a red vest with a black button-down shirt and darker red tie. He was still as handsome as before maybe even more, looked like he tried to tame his hair by brushing down and swiping it to the side but some pieces kept curling up, his chin more defined and strong. Terra still couldn't form words. He reached for the picture on her desk of Kazimir, "Keeper or destroyer of peace" framed the photo.
Placing the picture down gently then going over to the window that out looked her distillery, she saw the quick tick on his jaw.
"Gaara…wha…how?" She was finally able to get words out only for them to jumble and get stuck in her throat. For some reason, she was unable to get over her shock of him here and how stunning he grew to be. The man was even more of an Adonis then he was before!
"I give you one company and you nearly take the world." He smirks looking at her over his wide shoulders.
Shaking out of her shock she stood from her desk and pointed to the door even if her heart screamed in horror as her mind tried to reason, this was for the best she had Kazi to look after. "Gaara…you need to go…before you father-
"Has no control over Mr. Aikawa." He turned to look at her.
"As no sense as that makes he has control over you and I will, Not let him take my companies away from me."
"Good, because I wouldn't want him too." He cut her off again as he turned to face her.
"Look Gaara, I have no clue what game you're playing but I have a son to raise and the last thing I need is your father taking everything from me!" She repeated herself backing away as Gaara walked to her in a calm fashion. She moved around her desk to keep from being trapped he kept coming; she watched as he passed her desk and grabbed her glass of milk, never stopping as he neared her. He reached one hand towards her brushing her cheek making her breathing hitch as continued reaching behind her he grab something behind her. He had walked her right up against her side table, invading her space towering over her, his eyes roaming over her face as if drinking the sight of her in, before taking a step back. As if the spelled ended Terra looked away smoothing out her skirt before looking up at him swirling a small glass, the content the white crème floating over brown dark liquor, he took a sip eyeing her from the top of his glass.
She raised a brow. "A White Russian... Very funny" She murmurs looking him up and down. "Honestly Gaara, what are you doing here?"
He offered her the glass without a word, slowly she took it and took a sip.
"I disowned myself."
Nearly spitting out the liquor she coughs staring at him as if he had two heads. "Beg my pardon?"
He shook his head. "I couldn't stand what he did to you…to us. He always placed the blame on me from the moment I was born….by the age of 5 I knew to never ask my father for anything but the one time I did, the one thing I wanted most in the world, he has forbidden her from seeing me."
Terra breath was caught in her throat, her heart was thumping hard and painfully in her chest, whipping around to the mini-bar behind her she covered her mouth. She always dreamed he felt the way she did, Deidara always told her Gaara felt the same but she was a girl she wanted a direct answer, not an assumption, and now after all these years here it was!
She took a large gulp from the glass shaking her head, this was too good to be true!
Feeling him at her back she tenses was his chest pushed against her shoulder blades his large hands taking a hold of her wrist gently, before taking the glass from her, taking another sip to continue.
"…. I wanted to hurt him, to ruin him. I did everything I could think,"
That would explain the wild tabloids she thought.
"I finally saw it was just what he wanted, it was still keeping me where he wanted, in his grasp in his line of sight. So, in the end, I fully pulled away from him, it drove him mad, when I changed my last name, legally disowned myself from this, much to Temari disagreement, empty the bank account and ran away from the family, even left the country."
She frowned as thought of running into Temari at the baby shower, "Where do you live now?"
"Germany."
Blinking she wasn't expecting that. "Germany, the hell you doin there?" She asked taking the drink when he offered it back.
"It's actually not that bad." He nods taking the glass.
"So why the name Aikawa?"
"It was my mother's maiden name."
Licking her lips Terra was astonished this by far what she was expecting from meeting with Mr. Aikawa and the more she thought on it the more she wasn't really sure, she wanted a definite answer. "So you changed your name and moved away from Daddy," she laughed without humor. "What now, why did you call this meeting?"
"You called the meeting actually."
She narrowed her eyes.
"Fine, fine." He looked to the sides before taking a large gulp of the drink nearly finishing it, taking a breathe he place the glass down before looking at her with a gaze that set her aflame.
"Is it not obvious?" He asked as he walked to her, stretching his arms behind her against the mini-bar keeping her between his body.
"No, explain it to me" She swallowed her heart racing fast. What if it was the answer she wanted then what? And if it was a bogus?
"My name is Aikawa no Gaara, while you are Terra Volkov…no longer are we Sabaku no Gaara or Terra Lacewell…"
"We're still bound by the contract, name change or not." She pushed against his chest, doing her best to not think about the peck underneath.
"Retracted, deal of the disownment. I remove myself from them, in name and inheritance."
She finally met his eyes, she had no other response to that, really she did but his lips were quick to claim hers.
Terra dated a few guys after Gaara, was even married to Kazimir's father but kissing Gaara was like something she never find anywhere else, no one had made her feel like this! She felt like melting yet feeling as if she might float away. She gripped his vest tightly in her hand while her free hand reached up cupping the back of his head deepening the kiss, she had desired about for 8 years!
Gaara held onto her tightly pushing her body closer to his, one hand cupping her neck as the other gripped her waist. When he heard that she was married he wanted to give up but each picture he saw of her in the tabloid she never once held that spark he love to see, her green eyes were flat, only sparking when she felt her companies were in danger. He wanted to see that spark again he wanted it to be him that made her feel like she once did, then on one of his secret meeting with his sister, telling him Terra had a kid, he was expecting to be crushed but it only seemed to fuel his desire to be with her.
For so long he waited for the right moment, calling and asking for an appointment to meet, he knew she would never outright meet him. Call it a fool's hope or even a fools luck but he continued to try, always upping the price and his offers but Terra was still so damn stubborn! Finally, after nearly giving her half his company he was never going to let go, he lost her for 8.
Pulling from the kiss, Terra's lips were swollen as she pants pushing her forehead to his. "Gaara, I have a kid…we can't just pick up where we left off."
Kissing her once more he smirks. "I've noticed."
"Gaara,"
"I'm not asking for marriage, not now at least," She snorted at that. "But fuck Terra I'm not letting go of you again." He moved her hair from her eyes.
Terra frowned when he leaned back to hold up his hand. "Aikawa no Gaara."
Suppressing a smile, she shook her head before grabbing it. "Terra Volkov." She laughed.
It's amazing to think about the path life takes you on, is long and rigid filled with dark tunnels but there are times when you're in the light that makes it all worth it …and to think this started because All I wanted was some milk.
And there it is! the end this story really brings back so many memories, I'm happy I was able to post this to finish it.
