AN: Hey all, it's been a looooong time eh? Well have a present. I absolutely LOVE this show to bits and my friend asked if I could get into fanfiction again so here's my shot after about 5 years or so without doing anything like this before.
Disclaimer: Korra, Bolin, Mako and Asami all belong to their rightful owners Mike and Bryan ( And Nickelodeon)
"Don't worry Korra," Bolin said, gently squeezing the young Avatar's shoulders. "There was nothing you could have done."
"I should have been there Bolin! I should have stopped it! I'm the Avatar got Spirits sake," Korra replied, spinning around to face him, anguish in her eyes.
"Korra…."
"No. It was my fault. I should have been there, instead of being on a stupid date."
Feeling his eyes mist over, Bolin turned his head away from the Avatar's gaze and focussed it onto the floor. "I'm sorry you thought it was a waste of your time Avatar," He mumbled, scuffing his feet as he made his way away from her.
Heart twisting as she broke his heart once more, Korra tried to force her feelings back into a tightly locked cage deep in her soul. Frustrated that she hurt her team-mate once more and still raw from the message she had received once she got back onto the island, she found this task quite difficult.
"Aghhh!"
Screaming out into the still-ness of the air only left her panting from all the emotions swirling around her and she did the only other thing she could think of, the only thing that she was good at. Bending. Shooting off a flurry of deep orangey-red fireballs she cried out her agony into the night. Rocks went flying and crashing into the air followed by vicious ice spikes that pierced right through the stone.
Panting and falling to her knees she huddled over, tears overflowing her eyes as she howled out her pain into the darkness. Hands reaching up she tugged at her hair as she threw her head back and let out one last howl of agony before letting herself slump forward once more.
"Spirits, what happened here?" Asami whispered, eyes taking in the catastrophe before her. Rocks ripped out of the ground and blackened scorch marks littered her view.
"The letter," Mako said, his mouth a grim line as he assessed the carnage. "Bo said she got some bad news once they got back here."
"I think it was more than just bad news Mako."
Skirting around a particularly big boulder, the two finally found the young Avatar in the same position that she was in last night, on her knees, her head slumped over. Gasping aloud, Asami ran towards her new friend with Mako a few paces behind. Landing on her knees next to the Avatar, Asami gently reached out and pulled her into a hug.
"Korra," She said softly, trying not to startle her. "Sweetie, come back to us. Tell us what happened."
Feeling herself limply fall into an embrace stirred Korra from the trance she had been in. Blinking slowly her eyes focussed on the arms embracing her before her mind caught up with her and tears started to burn their way down her face once more. Sobbing she dropped her head into her hands.
Asami looked up at Mako who shrugged before crouching next to the two and placing a comforting hand on the Avatar's shoulder. "Korra," He said, more firmly than Asami. "What happened? Bo just said you got some…bad news."
"She's….She's…." Korra replied, stumbling over her words at the refreshed pain that her memory was throwing back at her. "She's….gone…dead…not c-coming back."
Exchanging looks once more, Asami gently rubbed the other woman's back soothingly, murmuring words of comfort. "Who's gone Korra?" She asked softly.
"Katara."
