For my friend who would have turned eighteen today. Although life goes on and we grow and change, you will always be a part of my heart, a little piece of my soul, a reminder of those that we've loved and lost. You will be forever my inspiration, for the strength you bore even in the face of death and for the simple beauty with which you lived your life. I hope that wherever you are, you're happy.

It was peaceful here, was her first thought. She turned her head, eyes half closed, revelling in the warm sunshine. She knew she should feel sad, or worried, but instead a feeling of contentment stole across her mind. She closed her eyes fully, relishing in the softness of the blades of grass between her feet and the cool breeze that danced through her hair and fluttered past her skirt.

She was happy. She felt light; happiness seeped through her bones. But most of all she felt peaceful-finally content. She could no longer remember why she had been scared, or indeed what been scared felt like. She could not remember what it felt like to be in pain, although she knew she should. She could not remember anything bad. She only knew that she was happy and that was enough.

She felt a presence at her side and her smile deepened as her love wrapped his arms around her, surrounding her in his familiar embrace. "You're safe now," He whispered, his lips ghosting over hers as he eliminated the space between their bodies. "Don't be scared."

She kissed him with a smile and a shake of her head, tossing her fiery red locks from side to side, "I'm not scared." She gazed into his hazel orbs and let the love shining forth from his eyes fill her up. He was happy too, she could feel it. She placed a hand on his cheek and caressed it, watching the sunlight flicker across his face. Harry looked so much like him. Harry...

She looked down and she saw him; a small babe with a lightning scar. Her sun and her stars. Her very reason for living, yet also the reason she had died. She should have felt distraught. The pain of losing Harry should have been unbearable. Yet as she watched him, huddled in the arms of their best friend, crying his eyes out, she could not feel any sorrow at their loss. She knew everything was going to be alright, because one day when he grew up, he was going to be happy. He was going to live, fall in love and find his own happiness. And he was going to know that his mum and dad died for him, their love protecting him. He would know that it had been their time to leave and in doing that they had given him a gift greater than any other: life. "Everything's going to be ok now." He nodded, the pads of his thumbs drying the tears that gathered in his wife's eyes as they looked down on their son.

"Mummy loves you Harry." She whispered softly before the wind gently rustled through the trees and a shaft of sunlight called to them. Then she placed her hand in her husband and turned slowly towards the light, "We'll always look over you. Our love for you will never end, Harry."

Fin.

Admittedly, this was not my finest writing. The style and vocabulary was basic, however I felt it needed to be written so forgive me for that.
