Saige and her friends stood outside the school in silence. It was her last day before she had to move away. The air felt heavy as the weight of the situation finally settled upon the small group of friends. As they stood there, Saige was recalling her first day at that school as though it was a distance memory.

Flashback

A group of five girls stood before the gates of the school unsure what to do with themselves. The sound of shuffling feet echoed through the halls as more and more students made their way through the metal gates. Saige stared uncertainly at the school and began to fidget.

"Hey, Saige." Claire, one of her friends, raised an eyebrow. "What are you so nervous? Weren't you the one who told us that everything was going to be alright?"

Saige chuckled nervously and winced. "That's right. I did, didn't I? Well, I guess I was hoping to convince myself of that."

Claire narrowed her eyes. "You were, weren't you?" She then rolled her eyes. "That's reassuring."

"Oh c'mon, Claire." Ami rolled her eyes. "Don't be like that. Besides, Saige was bound to get nervous sooner or later."

Saige pouted as all but Claire laughed. "Hey! I take offense to that!"

Claire rolled her eyes. "Yeah. Whatever." She then proceeded to ignore them and walk away and Saige, Ami, Julie, and Kathi's eyes trailed after Claire as she walked away from them with an attitude.

Kathi frowned. "Jeeze. What's her problem?"

The four remaining girls glanced at each other, confused, before shrugging Claire's behavior off. She always behaved like that anyways. The silence then returned to the group, minus one person that is. They continued to watch the school a bit longer.

"It is kind of nerve racking though." Saige broke the silence. "I mean, our future sort of depends on what we make of high school."

The girls nodded as Julie began speaking. "It can't be that bad."

"We'll just have to work hard. If we want to get into a good school afterwards that is." Ami confirmed.

The four girls shared one more look before making their way through the gates and closer to the path towards their future.

End Flashback

Saige shook her head as she turned to her friends. Unknowingly, her eyes trail over each and every one of them before turning to the ground. The timing for the move was bad, it being before junior year, but she didn't have much of a choice. A sigh escaped her lips before her mind trailed to Claire. Unfortunately, as high school went on, the group of five became a group of four. Somehow during sophomore year Claire stopped hanging out with them. She stopped going to their regular hangouts. She stopped saying a word to them and began ignoring them. There were no hellos through the halls during passing period or any smiles. They were confused until they saw her hanging around the trouble makers. The delinquents. After that, there were no more questions, no confusion. The haze cleared and they all understood. Of course, they didn't know what she was doing with her life and they felt that it was better that way.

Saige sighed and began tugging at her shoulder length brown hair. Her silver blue eyes once again darted over her friends as she thought of not being able to see them as often as she used to. A hand grasped onto her right shoulder to see Ami watching her worriedly.

"Are you alright?" She asked, concerned.

Saige gave her a half smile as she sighed before shrugging that hand off. "Yeah. Or at least, I will be."

"It's not the end of the world!" Julie piped up from beside Kathi.

"Yeah, I mean, you can still Skype us and there's always Facebook and email." Kathi reassured Saige with a smile.

Saige laughed. "I know that. I'm just sad that I won't be able to see you guys in person as often as I have before."

Ami gave Saige a grin. "Just because you're moving to Japan doesn't mean that we're not going to bother you or spam your inbox with tons of messages."

Saige chuckled before looking at the time. "Yeah. Nothing new there. Anyways, Rikki wants to leave tonight so I'll need to get going."

Her three friends nodded before giving her tight hugs. They all began walking away from each other before Ami yelled something to her.

"You better keep in contact or I'll be forced to haunt you in your sleep!"

Saige chuckled and waved before continuing her way to the house. As she was walking, a car pulled up next to her while the window was being rolled down.

"Saige!" Her sister, Rikki, shouted from the driver's side. "I was just about to come get you. We were supposed to leave for the airport thirty minutes ago."

Saige frowned as she got into the passenger side of the car. "We were, weren't we?"

"Auntie Saige!" Landon, her four year old nephew, shouted as he repeated what Rikki said. "You were taking too long!"

Saige leaned over from her seat and ruffled his hair from his position behind her. "Yeah, yeah. I know." She then sat back into her seat and shut the door.

Rikki drove away from the curb as Saige was putting her seatbelt on. Having finished that, Saige said nothing and simply stared at the scenery as they drove to the airport. Fifteen minutes was all it took as Rikki parked the car in one of the lots. Saige stared out the window for a bit longer as Rikki got out of the car, also getting Landon out. Saige spaced out for a short period of time before a knock on the door startled her out of her reverie. She looked up and saw that Landon was looking at her through the window with a confused look on his face. Saige simply smiled at him and shook her head as she opened the door and got out of the car.

"What were you doing, Auntie Saige?" Landon inquired.

"I was just thinking." Saige ruffled his hair and took her luggage as Rikki handed it to her. "Don't worry about it."

He smiled at her. "Okay!" He then proceed to grab her hand and drag her as he followed his mom to the terminal. Before Saige knew it, they already took care of the security check point and were making their way onto the plane. Considering that Saige had never been on a plane before, she allowed Rikki to direct her as to where to go and where they needed to sit. Once they were seated they buckled their seatbelts. Rikki allowed Landon to have the window seat while she sat in the middle and Saige was in the aisle seat. As Saige was left to her own devices, she began to think of her friends and if their lives were going to remain the same since she left.

"So," Rikki interrupted her thoughts, "how are you feeling?"

Saige glanced at her before slumping. "I'm as fine as can be."

Rikki smiled. "Are you excited for this new adventure?"

Saige furrowed her eyebrows as she thought. "I guess. I'm just going to be missing my friends. That's all." A thought occurred to her. "Hey, what's going to happen to the car?"

"That's what you're worried about?" Rikki raised an eyebrow and Saige simply waited for her to answer. "Well, a friend of mine is going to retrieve it and hold onto it until we get back. Whenever that is."

Saige nodded and had nothing to say from then on. The roaring of the plane engines echoed through her ears as they were started. She subconsciously tensed as the plane rolled onto the runway. Then before she knew it, the plane took off and they were into the air and on their way to Japan.

As Saige watched the clouds drift by, one thought drifted through her mind. 'I hope nothing bad happens.' She then proceeded to sigh. 'I can only hope.'
