Summary: prompt: watermelon. He's curious but cautious with her, and she can't articulate how much she appreciates him for that so she settles for showing him.

It's crazy, Gwen knows. Two weeks haven't even passed since they took the test, since she took the test, but already the cravings have started, and freshwatermelon in New York City in January? It's proving to be a bit more of a challenge than she expected. Being a Crane, though, does have its perks; rather, carrying a future Crane heir or heiress has its advantages. Either way, Gwen's impressed. "I can't believe you found this. Do you know how many grocers I've been to in just the last week alone, looking for the perfect watermelon? Too many."

Fox smirks at her, strips his tie from his neck before he disappears into the bathroom. "I thought you'd learned not to underestimate me." When he returns, he's bare-chested, golden and glorious, his dark blond hair deliciously rumpled. His belt hangs loosely from its loops, and the button of his pants is undone.

Gwen feels her cheeks heat as she savors the wedge of juicy, pulpy fruit between her fingers, leans back against her mound of pillows. Her body's merely a vessel of raging, contradictory hormones right now, and she's honestly too tired to launch the seduction that self-satisfied smile of his begs for. That doesn't mean she can't toy with him, just a little. "And here I thought you weren't one to brag."

"I thought you knew me better than that," Fox winks, reaches over her to toss aside a few pillows, make his own little space in what has become her nest. He takes his time pulling back, his face hovering just in front of her own.

Gwen's hand curls around his bicep when he teasingly kisses the tip of her nose at the last minute, and she groans. "You're doing it on purpose, aren't you?"

Fox plays coy when he is anything but innocent. "Doing what?" His hand makes a deliberate slide across her midriff, and his thumb strokes the rim of her navel. "It isn't bragging if it's true."

Making me fall for you, Gwen thinks, even while he effortlessly steers them back to safer ground with his teasing. He's curious but cautious with her, and she can't articulate how much she appreciates him for that so she settles for showing him. Gwen slides a hand into his hair, presses her smile into the corner of his smirking mouth, steals his thoughts away with kisses as she decides maybe she's not that tired.

Fox allows himself to be distracted, but he won't be so easily fooled, even if he lets her think otherwise. She's still playing her cards close to the vest, maybe she always will, but he knows what he wants, and he can be patient when he has to be. For now, he simply kisses her back, tries to read the unsaid words in her shining eyes.

Gwen doesn't tell him that she could be, maybe, probably (is) falling in love with him yet. But she thanks him, admits maybe he's right about something, hopes a part of him already knows. "You're right. It's not bragging if it's true."

So sorry for the length of time in between updates.

When my PC got zapped, I lost most of my older stories, and picking them back up without easily having the previous, earlier chapters to reference has been a little challenging at times. ;)

Fortunately, this story was/is still in its early stages, so it's not so hard to pick it back up, even if it has taken me a very long time to do so.

I apologize. RL takes precedence, as I'm sure you dear readers understand, and as always, I have several WIPs competing for my apparently fickle attention span.

Siah and Maddie weren't cooperating for you to get an update to OUAT and Marty's being particularly belligerent in his refusal to move things along in Haunted so you are treated to Gwen/Fox finding their way. :)

Now, if only everyone would stop competing to have their say so in Seven Devils.

I promise I'm not crazy, evidence to the contrary.

Thank you so much for picking this story back up.
