The Second Failed Heist
Summary:
It has been a few weeks since that failure of a heist happened and Hakuba still hasn't gotten over it yet. Meanwhile, Jirokichi has another challenge for KID. KID can't refuse, of course. But can he get past the old man's new guards?
Authors Notes:
*head pops from behind a wall* *blinks* Oh… Uh... You're still here? *dodges rotten tomatoes* Umm… I'll just talk at the end of the story…
Disclaimer:
I do NOT own the awesome anime known as Detective Conan. All belong to the awesome author named Gosho Aoyama. The only things I own in this fic are the jewel, and the story itself.
Warnings:
OOCness (is that even OOC, though?)
Crack
I can't think of anything else...

Kaito groaned as he noticed a certain Brit enter the classroom, sending a smirk his way. It had been two weeks. Two weeks and that Hakubaka still hasn't gotten over KID's… uncharacteristic showing of weakness.
He shuddered as he remembered that terrible, terrible night. He was only able to escape undetected because the two detectives who were supposed to be catching him were laughing so hard that they wouldn't even have noticed if the apocalypse happened right then and there. He had gathered enough of his wits to get out of that building and away from that horrible shirt that was full of those… those… he couldn't even say it.
He banished the dreadful memories from his mind and focused on the newspaper he was reading. The old man Jirokichi had a challenge for him again.
Calypso's Lament was an aquamarine stone with a scratch that was curiously shaped like a woman crying. Kaito studied the details given on the paper, noting its size and history. It definitely seemed like a good candidate for Pandora.
"I see you have read the papers, KID."
Ah. Here we go again.
"As much as I like to think how cool it would be if I was KID-sama, I, sadly, am not him, Hakubaka."
One of Hakuba's eyebrow twitched in annoyance at the name-calling, "Now why do I find that hard to believe?" Hakuba muttered before he resumed his smirking.
"So what do you think? Calypso's Lament. An authentic diamond dating back from the 1600's. It's got an interesting history and is a big jewel. I noticed that KID usually goes for those. Do you think he will accept Jirokichi-san's challenge?"
"Why wouldn't he? KID-sama rarely turns down challenges."
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe because it has a more... underwater theme?" At this, Kaito feigned ignorance, letting a mask of confusion slide over his face.
"Huh? What the do underwater themes have to do with anything? And why the heck are you so peppy today?" he asked.
Hakuba rolled his eyes in exasperation. Did he really have to play along? "Oh, nothing. Why Kuroba-kun, do you smell something fishy?" Oh how Kaito would have loved to just wipe that stupid smirk off of that stupid Brit's face. You better prepare for today's pranks, Hakuba.

Kaito was feeling spontaneous that day. He decided to just wing the heist without finding out what they had prepared for him this time. I really hope nothing related to those horrible creatures comes up...

A small boy walked the halls of the Suzuki Mansion. He passed by several guards without interuption. Edogawa conan was used to this treatment. He had helped a lot on so many KID heists that the police just tolerated his prescence. He stopped in front of a door that was guarded by two men.
"Ne, Keiji-san. Could I go inside? I wanna talk to Jirokichi-san." he said, putting on his best I'm-just-a-cute-kid act.
The two guards looked at each other before shrugging. They knew this kid. And besides, a fully grown man couldn't possibly disguise himself as a seven year old, right?
"Just a sec, bozu. I'll tell him first." said one of them.
"Hai~!"
The guard who spoke went inside. Only a few moments passed before eager steps were heard. The door opened to reveal none other than Suzuki Jirokichi himself.
"There you are!" Jirokichi said excitedly, "Come here, you!" He ignored the indignant squawks coming from the boy that he practically dragged inside the room. When he released him, he crouched in front of the boy and asked in a boastful tone, "Now, what do you think of my new guards?"
Conan, could only gape in surprise. "Th-The jewel is-!"
After a few seconds, Conan's expression turned into an evil-looking one. He couldn't help but let out an equally evil cackle. Oh. KID. Now I kind of feel sorry for you. Not.
Jirokichi, however, didn't know whether to think that the boy was right in the head or not.
~~~~~(P_^)~~~~~
Getting through the guards was easy. Nothing a little disguise and some sleeping gas couldn't handle. Jirokichi-san, Nakamori-keibu, Hakuba, and Tantei-kun were too busy trying to get out of the traps he made. The lock on the door to the jewel's room wasn't even that hard to pick. Hah! The old man was losing his touch.
He probably has something bigger planned for later... KID thought to himself as he entered the room.
He turned around and stiffened. Right in front of him was the jewel. It was inside a sealed container that was suspended in the middle of a large tank that contained three freaking sharks. What. The. Hell.
~~~~~(P_^)~~~~~
A very, ahem… manly scream could be heard across the whole mansion.
The Kuroba family's ever faithful servant sighed in exasperation. He just knew that this would happen. He had told the boy about the dangers of not planning ahead, but he just wouldn't listen. Konosuke Jii opened the shaft directly above the jewel and grabbed the target with a large pincer. He took the jewel out of the container and replaced it with a note. He looked at his young master, who was still screaming his lungs out. It wouldn't do to leave him like this.
He closed the shaft and changed his position, locating the area that should be just above his young master. He opened the shaft there and went down. By now, Kaito's screams had been reduced to whimpers. Jii took Kaito's clothes off, leaving his undergarments on. He bound him in ropes, but left his mouth. Kaito didn't offer much resistance.
As he did all of this, he told Kaito to say that KID had put him to sleep and disguised as him. KID had left him in the jewel's room for some reason, and when Kaito woke up, the first thing that he saw were the sharks, thus the screaming.
Jii didn't know if his young master was able to understand him even through his panicked state or not. He could only hope for the former.
~~~~~(P_^)~~~~~
Finally breaking free of the ropes they were bound in, Jirokichi, Nakamori, Hakuba, and Conan hurried to the source of the screaming they heard earlier.
Who was screaming? Why was he screaming? These questions ran around all of their minds. Hakuba and Conan had an idea but they weren't sure. That scream sounded downright terrifying. Could he… Could he have fallen in?! the two thought simultaneously.
The door to the jewel's room banged loudly against the wall as the four people ran inside. They found a teenager that looked a lot like the older version of the youngest of them. He was bound in ropes and was whimpering pathetically.
"Kaito-kun?!"
"Kuroba-kun!"
Nakamori and Hakuba immediately ran to Kaito and unbound him. As soon as he was free, Kaito scrambled for the exit, trying to get away from the tank full of sharks. Conan noticed the note inside the container that previously held the Calypso's Lament.
Jirokichi-san,
I have taken the Calypso's Lament. Thank you very much for the challenge. It was quite fun. Do give Kaito-kun my sincerest apologies for leaving him in this room. I simply did not have the time to find a more comfortable place for him.
Author's Notes:
So… Two years. TWO YEARS. I am so sorry. I am so very sorry it took me that long to update this. I just… well, I don't really have a good excuse. I did say this was going to be updated sporadically… But still, the reasons for me taking so long are these: laziness, excessive boredom and lack of inspiration, school, cadets, and entering new fandoms.
That last reason is the most troublesome problem for me. I just recently became a part of so many new fandoms that my love for Detective Conan has diminished somewhat. *booing* No, no, no, please! Don't get me wrong! I still love Detective Conan. I promise! I still read the manga and watch the movies. It's just that, I don't get to do it as much anymore...
The only reason I was even able to write this was because of Moonumb. Thanks to all her encouragement and advice, I was able to type up this chapter. Even then, I'm not really happy with how it turned out. The beginning is fine but, the writing of the heist itself seems a bit rushed. I'm also aware of the numerous plot holes that I have created. But this collection is going to be full of crack anyway so... Meh.
So I'm making a request. When you review, please mention what kind of weird situation you would like to see the Detective Conan or Magic Kaito characters in. If I get ideas from your ideas, I might be able to pump out better chapters faster. I've seen this technique done by other authors and it seems to work for them.
So, yeah… I think I had a lot more things to say but, I forgot. Also, this is about to get even longer than the story itself so, I'll just take my leave now. Bye~!
