Sokka and Zuko were getting dressed in their disguises at the boiling rock. Sokka reached for a belt from a pile on the shelf. Zuko was about to grab one too when he paused, realizing something, he turned to Sokka.
"Sokka," He said sharply, "that belt makes you a captain. Look for a sliver one, or a lighter colored one. In the army, brown belts are the ordinary soldiers."
"Oh," Sokka said, "but why not just use these?"
"Because we are new here we would appear suspicious if we were wearing gold." Zuko said, passing Sokka one of the lighter colored belts that he picked up from another shelf.
"Right," Sokka said, glancing down at his gold belt sheepishly, "thanks Zuko."
