"Ray, get your ass out of bed!"
This is what Ray woke up to. He slightly opened his eyes to see his big sister glaring down at him.
"Alicia...whatever is the matter?"
"What's the matter? What's the matter? I'll tell you what's the matter! You scream your head off at three in the morning and disturb my much needed beauty sleep, and you don't understand why I'm so mad? Are you really that oblivious, or are you just stupid?!"
By now Ray's eyes were the size of dinner plates and he was quivering with the blanket pulled up above his nose. Alicia sure was scary when she was mad, but he finally worked up the courage and asked, "B-b-b-but...why are you yelling at me now? I-I'm really tired..."
Before he could finish that statement, Alicia's face became redder than one of Kyle's tomatoes.
"You're tired?! What about me and Mother?! You woke us up at that ungodly hour of the morning, and I couldn't get back to sleep, you know if I wake up at a time like that I can never get back to sleep! If I have to be tired today, then so do you!"
Alicia snatched the pillow under Ray's head and smacked him in the face with it, and Ray squealed in sheer terror.
"Be quiet! I don't want to even hear you today!" She stomped out of the room.
Ray sat up trembling. Alicia wasn't normally this mean and aggressive, but she became a battle axe when her sleep was disturbed. Shortly after a while, Natalie came upstairs.
"I had planned on letting you sleep in...but since you're up, get dressed and come down here," she said. Although she was nowhere near as mad as Alicia, Ray could tell she wasn't very happy with him.
"Stupid, stupid Ray! Why didn't you think of this before you screamed like a little girl? Alicia's going to be furious all day, and now you've gone and upset Mother! Oh dear, what if she cuts my allowance?! But, if she was going to do that, she would've said something by now, right?! I won't be able to live without my pink melons and grape juice! If she cuts my allowance and denies me my grape juice, I'm going to go jump in the ocean, I swear it! She'll be so sorry she did it, and Alicia will be sorry for yelling at me, and I'll never ever forgive them! Why-"
"Ray? Are you okay?" Natalie asked, looking slightly concerned, but mostly irritated. "You've just been staring into space for approximately one minute. You haven't even blinked..."
Ray snapped out of his mental tantrum and gave his mother a smile. "I'm fine, Mother. I'm just tired. I'll get dressed right away and come downstairs."
Natalie nodded and went back downstairs. Ray let out a breath.
Ray dragged himself out of bed and put on his uniform. Before heading downstairs, he stared at himself in the mirror. He grimaced. He half wondered if he wore tighter clothes, if Kyle would notice him...
"Ray, would you please come down?" His mother shouted from downstairs. He must've been daydreaming about his precious Kyle and his own uniform for too long.
Ray shrugged at his reflection and skipped down the stairs to be met with...
"Good morning, Ray!"
Of course, Kyle. He was the only person who came to the clinic this early, with the exception of Dorothy. Ray was mesmerized by Kyle's warm, brown eyes, his thick and luscious auburn locks, and his rippling muscles. He was starstruck. Kyle shifted his weight uncomfortably.
"Um...what's wrong? Do I have something on my face?"
Ray snapped out of his trance, and shook his head. "N-Nothing! Nothing at all, Kyle. I'm just tired. Very tired..."
Kyle smiled a bit more at him, while Natalie gave her son a strange look. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better later in the day." Ray nodded absently, and continued to stare at Kyle's chiseled chest, that was inconveniently covered by a shirt.
Kyle frowned a bit more at a him, and looked down while trying to figure out what he was staring at.
"Well, I'll be seeing you guys around," Kyle said half-heartedly and left the clinic quickly, clearly creeped out by Ray's bug-eyed stare. As soon as the door shut behind him, tears spilled from Ray's cerulean eyes and he let out a sob, heartbroken that Kyle found him disgusting.
"Goodness, Ray! You've been acting strangely all morning. Are you ill? Do you need more rest?" Natalie fussed over Ray, feeling his forehead. Ray sniffled.
"I'm fine, Mother. I...was j-just, um, thinking about this...romance novel I read," Ray whined, not wanting Natalie to find out the true reason he was considering throwing himself off the highest cliff of the Padova Mountains. She'd be so ashamed and freaked out by him, and she'd forbid him from looking at another pink melon for the rest of his natural life for sure. Natalie didn't seem to buy it, but she did get the underlying message that Ray wanted to be left alone.
Ray sniffled a bit more, then sighed. What a tragic way to start off the morning. He braced himself for the grueling, boring, and Kyle-less day that lie ahead.
