Chapter 16
The past few months have been amazing. Carlos and I have been happier than ever. I never thought that I could be truly happy again after Chad but Carlos truly surprised me. He's more than a boyfriend, but a best friend, someone that I don't mind talking to about anything.
Kendall and James have also been so supportive; I know that I can go to them for anything and for that I'm extremely grateful. Right now, I was looking online for some schools that I can go to in order to finish out my degree. I only have about a year left and I've got to move forward at some point. I can't work for Kendall forever.
Things have improved of course. I am making enough working for Kendall that I can pull my weight when it comes to bills. I've been helping pay for the house, lights, water, a bunch of other stuff that I couldn't do when I first got here. I figure that with a bit of financial aid, I can afford to go to school for my last two semesters.
I heard the door open and Kendall, James, and Carlos all walked in.
"Hey Loges," they all said before disappearing into the kitchen.
I didn't think too much of it so I went back to my research. I did find it odd though that I wasn't hearing much noise coming from the kitchen. Finding it really weird, I stood up and walked into the kitchen.
"Happy Birthday Logan!" they yelled when they saw me.q
Right, and today's my birthday. They had cake, and 24 candles were lit.
"You guys," I smiled. "You guys didn't have to do anything."
"I'm grilling steaks," James said.
"Okay, you did have to do that," I smiled brightly. "Thanks, you guys are the best!"
Carlos pulled me into a hug and gave me a quick kiss.
"How was work?" I asked.
"Wasn't too bad," Carlos shrugged. "Now that Summer is over, we aren't extremely busy during the day time."
"Thank god," Kendall added. "I was almost ready to strangle those kids this summer."
"I wouldn't be surprised if you did," I laughed.
We all started to make something. I found myself smiling. I didn't think that they would do something like this and I know it seems small but it really does mean a lot. All that Chad used to do on my birthday was no abuse me, but let's not talk about him anymore; he's irrelevant.
I looked up, making eye contact with Carlos who was making Spanish rice. He flashed me a quick smile and I couldn't help but smile back. I was making some barbeque sauce for these steaks; my dad taught me a recipe a long time ago that I still remembered and Kendall was putting in his order for the restaurant.
When dinner was done, the four of us sat down and ate. Because of all of our work schedules, we don't always get the opportunity to each together, so I was really happy for this time.
"Wow James, I didn't know you could grill," I said.
"I'm James Diamond. I can do anything," James smirked.
"I honestly should've seen that response coming," I shook my head.
"You really should've," Kendall commented.
"No, but seriously it's really good," I said.
"So, how does it feel to be 24?" James asked. "Old?"
"No," I laughed. "I honestly don't feel any different, its just a number."
"It's just a number until you're gray and wrinkly," he said.
"Well hopefully that won't be any time soon," I said.
We finished eating, laughing at James and his shenanigans.
"Alright, so now its time for your present," Carlos stood up excited.
"You got me something?" I asked.
"Think of it more as an investment," Carlos said.
"What is it?" I smiled.
Carlos handed me an envelope. Slightly cautious, I grabbed it and opened it up. I was a little surprised to see my student ID from UCLA.
"How did you get this?" I looked at him.
"That's not important," Carlos said.
"Wait, why are you giving me this?" I directed my attention back to the ID.
"Because you're actively a student at UCLA for this semester and next semester," Carlos smiled.
My eyes widened.
"Carlos what? The semester has already started and there's no way you paid for this," I looked at him like he was crazy.
"All three of us did," James winked.
"Wait a second," I had to stop and think. "Guys, this is crazy."
"No it isn't," Carlos laughed. "I went to the school and talked to your advisor; when she heard that you were thinking of coming back, she enrolled you in the classes you would need this semester without any issue. It was still within the add/drop period and apparently they were all thrilled for you to come back. I didn't know that you have a perfect GPA."
"Which is why we aren't going to let you just throw school away," Kendall explained. "You deserve this more than anything. You only have a year left, and then you take your test and graduate and you'll be a doctor. We want you to live your dream."
"I don't know what to say," I chuckled, looking down and playing with the envelope.
"Don't say anything," James said. "You're scholarship was reinstated, but not all of them, so we only had to pay a little bit to get you reenrolled."
I felt a tear leave my eye. Great, now I'm crying.
"I love you guys," I looked at all of them.
That was the first time I had admitted that out loud. I didn't want to get too attached because this was supposed to be a temporary thing, but then they wanted me to stay and I started dating Carlos and these guys have become my best friends.
"We love you too buddy," James pulled me into a hug.
I smiled, then hugging Kendall and then giving Carlos a kiss.
"I know you planned this," I laughed. "You're the best."
"I know," he smiled brightly.
"So, what about working?" I looked at Kendall.
"Just let me know your school schedule," Kendall said. "We can take it from there."
"Your advisor said that your login was the same, so you can go and look at your schedule and everything there."
"I'm going to go look now," I smiled, standing to head upstairs.
"Oh and Logan?"
I turned on the stairs to look at Logan.
"Happy Birthday baby," he smiled.
I blew him a kiss before going upstairs. I was going to be a doctor!
So as far as i'm concerned, this is still only the beginning. I've got a lot up my sleeve for this and I can't say you won't be mad at me at some point...just stick with it though, it'll be great!
