We have been running for hours. The Edison Group took Simon and Derek's dad, Kit, and Aunt Lauren. Just took them in the middle of the night. I mean it had to be the Edison Group. We didn't hear anything—not even Derek. He is the one with all the super senses. But there were obvious signs of struggle. It took us all off guard considering Derek never heard anything. How did he not hear anything? It is something we have all been wondering.
Anyway, we are on the run again. We've been passing through a neighborhood somewhere in the suburbs. Usually, Derek wouldn't risk us getting caught but we didn't really have a choice and we we're keeping to the shadows.
"Okay," Tori said as she skidded to a halt, as did the rest of us. Derek scowled at her for making us stop. "I can't go any further. Seriously, we have been running for hours with no stopping! I need to rest."
Derek continued onwards, ignoring Tori.
"Hey! Wolfboy! Did you hear me? Let's find an empty house or something. We need to rest." Tori said. "You know what? I'm going to do it anyway, because you aren't going to agree with me no matter what." She started walking toward a house with no lights on. "You guys are welcome to join me if you want. Unless you're just going to be Derek's little followers and do whatever he says."
She continued walking. Nobody made any move to follow her. I started to go after her but before I could take two steps Derek grabbed my shirt, pulling me back.
"Where do you think you're going?" he demanded.
"umm, Tori is right. We need to rest and eat something. I'm sure Simon needs to eat right now." Simon gave me a look that said "why bring me into this?"
Derek hesitated releasing my shirt. I grabbed his hand entwining our fingers. "C'mon Derek. I'm sure you're hungry too."
His gaze met mine. Even though he was a good foot and a half taller than me, I managed to gaze into those deep green eyes.
"Fine." He said. "We'll stay until dawn. We'll take turns keeping watch in case someone decides to come home." He started to the house, fingers still entwined in mine. Simon followed behind us silently. I smiled in victory.
