Chapter 165: Bad, Bad. Bad World Pt. 1

Magic School

Chris stood high on a ladder in the Great Hall at Magic School and pulled out a blue book from the upper bookshelf. Paige and Gideon stood hunched over the main table below working on writing a spell. Buffy was playing with Celia in on of the chairs near Chris's ladder. Dawn was at the Manor working on getting everything ready for baby Chris's arrival.

"You know, your time travel section is due for a serious overhaul." Chris said. "I mean…. I can find more information Googling."

"Googling?" Gideon asked.

"Never mind." Chris walked down the step ladder and headed over to the table to check on Paige's progress. "Any luck with that spell yet?"

"You mean since the last two minutes you asked me?" Paige asked.

"Look, I'm just getting a little nervous here, ok? My birthday is in two days, and if I'm not outta here before I'm born…."

"What? Something bad that you don't know about could happen?" Buffy asked.

"I just don't want to take any chances. Besides, I came here and did what I had to do, and that was to save Wyatt. Now it's time for me to go home."

Piper and Leo walked into the Hall. Leo was pushing Piper's hospital suitcase in front of him. "Sooner than you might think," Paige said.

"Oh, no. No, no, no. Not yet. You're early," Chris said.

"Oh, relax." Piper waved him off. "I'm just getting a jump on things. I'm not in labor. I'm sending some stuff back to the house."

"Just don't scare me, ok?"

"What's the matter? Isn't the spell ready?" Leo asked.

Gideon turned around to join the conversation, an open book still in his hand. "I think it's ready. It should work."

"Should work? What do you mean?"

"Well, there are no guarantees with time travel, Leo. You should know that better than anyone. Sorry. There's always a chance that something might go wrong."

"All right. We're not taking any chances."

"We might have to," Chris said. "I'm running out of time here."

"No. I'm not sending you through a one-way portal unless I know where you're gonna land."

"You can never be certain. Unless, of course, you went, too," Gideon said. "And even then…."

"All right. Let's just forget the spell and start to work on that potion again."

"But the spell has a better chance of working. It's the Power of Five." Paige nodded her agreement.

"Yes, but if something goes wrong, he'll have extra potion with him and he can come right back."

"I agree." Piper said. "It sounds safer, so why don't you guys get to work on that? Paige or Buffy can either of you take these home for me? Just squeeze them into the nursery or something."

"Nursery?" Paige asked.

"You did clean out the nursery, right?"

"Yeah. No. I was working on the spell. I'm sorry."

"Well, you better hurry, or else baby Chris will be sleeping in your room."

"Don't worry." Buffy said. "Dawn's working on it." She picked Celia up. "Come on, you. Let's go see how everything's going with Mama Dawn." She flamed out with Paige and the bags to the Manor.

"Don't forget diapers," Piper yelled after her sisters before Buffy's flames were completely gone. "Lot's of diapers."

"Okay, got to get out of here," Chris groaned.

The study door opened magically as Gideon swept in. He cleared the door and waved his fingers magically closing the door behind him. He walked over to the carpet-like curtain hanging on the wall and pushed it aside to reveal a large mirror. He looked at his reflection inside the mirror.

"They prepare to send ... the boy home," he and his reflection said at the same time. He sat down at the chess table set up in front of the mirror, his reflection remained standing. He looked at his reflection. "It's time."

"For our plan to work, we have to get the sisters ..." the reflection said.

"... and Leo and Chris out of the way," Gideon added. "Don't worry. We will."

Halliwell Manor

Dawn was just finishing the nursery that Leo had built in Piper's room when Wyatt was born. "Looking good," Paige said.

"Very good," Buffy agreed.

"Thank you," Dawn said. She smiled at her daughter. "Hey there, beautiful. Did you have fun with Mama Buffy at Magic School?"

"She did," Buffy handed Celia to Dawn. "Where's Phoebe?"

"She went out to get some stuff. She should be back soon, though."

Buffy paused and listened to the sounds of the house and outside. "She's back. That stupid Mrs. Noble is giving her trouble again."

"How can you tell?" Paige asked. Buffy just shot her sister a look. "Oh right, telepath. You can hear Mrs. Noble's thoughts."

Phoebe walked into the room. "Oh, look at how cute. I remember when Baby Wyatt used to fit in here." She put her packages down on the floor near the crib. "Gosh, I still can't believe we're bringing home a baby."

"You know, he's gonna need a bedroom eventually." Paige said. "And when he does we're going to be a room short again."

"Couldn't he just sleep with his brother at that point," Dawn said. "You know why are we talking about this when it's a few years away anyways. With a few minor finishing touches to the nursery that I can have ready before the baby is born, we should be focusing on getting Chris home." Phoebe looked at her. "Oh, remember him? You know, the nephew? The one you've been avoiding?"

"I am not," Phoebe objected.

"Ok. So why weren't you helping Gideon and Paige with the spell?" Buffy asked.

"Because I was helping Leo trying to find the burdock root. It was very hard to find. It's back-ordered everywhere," Phoebe explained.

"We're gonna miss him, too, you know," Dawn admitted.

"It sucks. I mean, I know he's going back to a better future and all," Phoebe said with a sigh. "It's just…. we're just getting to know him, you know?"

"We know," Dawn said.

Downstairs, the door bell rang. "I forgot to move my car." Phoebe rushed out.

"I'm going to go take a shower." Paige said. "Maybe it'll work these kinks out of my neck." She walked out too.

Buffy headed downstairs with Dawn and Celia. Phoebe was leading a crying Sheila Morris into the house. "Sheila!"

"It's getting to be a habit, isn't it?" Sheila said. "Me showing up a wreck."

"Here." Phoebe handed her a tissue. "What's wrong?"

"We never fight, that's the thing. At least we never used to, but lately, Darryl's just been so on edge, you know?"

"Any idea why?" Dawn asked.

"Actually, I was hoping you guys might know. I went to his work the other day just to say hi, and I saw an arrest warrant on his desk…. for Chris."

"Chris?" Buffy asked.

"Are…. are you sure?" Phoebe asked.

Sheila nodded. "I'm positive. I even asked him about it, if he was gonna make it go away, and that's when he just lost it. He told me to stay out of it and stay away from you girls from now on. Did something happen that I don't know about?"

Dawn sighed. "A couple of weeks ago, Darryl got really scared when he was trying to cover up for us, and we felt horrible, you know, but obviously, it really affected him."

"Enough not to cover for Chris?"

"He got really scared. Maybe you just need to give him some time."

"Yeah, but that doesn't help you right now, and it doesn't help Chris. Look, I…. I love Darryl, and I…. I know this is eating him up inside, but you girls are like family to us. You don't turn your back on family."

"You're right." Buffy said. "Listen, Phoebe, Dawn and I will go down and talk to him. We'll get this worked out."

Magic School

Chris stood drawing a large quinquetra in the center of the wall in the Great Hall with a thick piece of white chalk.

"What's that?" Leo asked looking at the quinquetra.

"It's the family's symbol in the future," Chris said. "At some point in the future they chose a new symbol to represent the five of them. Even in the future I came from Dawn was still looked at as a sister despite her marriage to Buffy."

Leo nodded as he grabbed a piece of paper and pencil. He drew the quinquetra. "Even though we have hopefully erased all the bad stuff from your future. One thing will remain the same," he said as he showed Chris the drawing. "I am going to show this to Piper, Phoebe, Paige, Dawn and Buffy. If they approve then I will see about having the books magically altered to reflect the new symbol."

Chris smiled and then he looked back at the quinquetra. "I wonder how different the future's gonna be, how much different my life is gonna be."

"I just want you to get home safely," Leo said as Chris tossed piece of chalk to the side. "Now remember, if anything seems different, we have another vial of this to get back right away." He held up the vials in his hand.

Chris smiled wryly as he looked at his father. "You worry too much, you know that? I'll be fine," he said.

Leo returned his son's smile. "I'm your father. It's my job to worry," he told Chris. "Now listen, when you get back there, you gotta take it easy on Wyatt, okay? You can't hold a grudge."

"Hey, as long as he's not Ruler of All Evil, I'm cool," Chris said.

"I'm serious," Leo said. "He's gonna be different. Good. He's not gonna remember he wasn't. So if you really want to change the future, you gotta start with a clean slate."

Chris sighed. "Ok. Ok. I get it. How about you? Are you starting with a clean slate?"

"How do you mean?" Leo asked clearly confused.

"Like you and mom," Chris explained. "Look, all I'm saying is I'd like to know where you two are headed before I go back, that's all."

Leo sighed. "It's complicated. I'm an Elder. I made a commitment."

"So?" Chris shrugged. "It's not like you haven't broken the rules before. I'm living proof of that."

Leo let out another sigh. "Yeah." He then began to think about it and smiled. "We'll see. Listen, we have enough of this stuff if you want to try a dry run before everybody gets here. What do you think?"

Chris glanced back at the wall., he was game to try. "Yeah. Let's do it," he said as he took up a position next to Leo.

Leo pulled his hand back and threw the blue vial at the wall. Before impacting with the wall, the vial shattered. A few wispy strands of smoke rose up from the impact, a majority of the liquid landing flat on the floor. The glass fell to the floor and nothing happened, no portal, nothing.

Chris and Leo let out a sigh of resignation as they stared at the wall.

"That should have worked," Leo said clearly confused. He turned to look at Chris. "I'll get you home, buddy, I promise." He put a hand on Chris's shoulder before walking away.

Chris looked at the wall as he sighed, he then turned and followed his father.

"We're going to figure this out," Leo told Chris. "You've got to keep your head on."

The door to Gideon's study magically opened. Then suddenly a cloud of black smoke appeared and Gideon walked out of it. He looked down at the cut on his left hand. He waved his good hand and the door closed behind him. He headed for the wall and motioned, magically pushing the curtain in front of the mirror aside.

The reflection was standing in the mirror licking the blood of his cut right hand. He looked at Gideon.

"Their potion almost certainly would have worked," the reflection said.

"We stopped them just in time, though it ..." Gideon added.

"... wasn't supposed ..." the reflection said through gritted teeth "... to hurt." He pulled out a large glass shard from his palm just as Gideon did the same. "Shall we?"

Gideon and the reflection raise their bloody palm. Suddenly their hands glowed and healed. The reflection smiled in relief as they both lowered their hands. "Thank you," they said simultaneously.

"At least now they'll be forced to use our spell," Gideon said.

"The sooner the better," the reflection added. "Wyatt and Celia's magic grows stronger by the day."

"That much power in two beings..." said Gideon.

"... is bound to turn him..." the reflection continued.

"Evil," Gideon added.

"Good," the reflection concluded. "We have to get those that protect them out of the way."

"Starting with Leo and Chris," Gideon agreed just a knock came at his door. The reflection moved out of sight as the door opened and Leo poked his head in.

"Gideon?" Leo called out.

Gideon turned and glanced nervously at the uncovered mirror, but rather than calling attention to it by covering it, he ignored it and walked toward Leo.

"Hey, it looks like we're gonna need that spell after all," Leo said as he stepped into the study. "Is there an echo in here?"

"It's poor acoustics," Gideon answered. "Have Piper gather her sisters, and I'll get the spell."

"Ok," Leo said with a sigh. "You know, I don't understand what happened. That potion should have worked."

"Like I said, time travel is tricky," Gideon reminded his fellow Elder. "You will still be escorting your son?"

"Well, I think so. I think it's safest, don't you?" Leo asked.

Gideon smiled. "Absolutely. Gather everyone together. I'll be right along." He guided Leo out of the study closing the door behind him. He then turned back to the mirror just as his reflection became visible again. .

"Here they come," the reflection said as they shared a please smirk that they plan was coming together.

San Francisco Police Station

Phoebe and Buffy ran across the parking lot of the police station, trying to catch Darryl on his way into the station. "Darryl." Phoebe called.

"Hey, Darryl," Buffy and Dawn said.

"Darryl. Stop." They called after him. They ran in front of him, stopping him on the front walk.

"We just need to talk to you," Dawn said.

"We have nothing to talk about," Darryl said.

"Look, Chris is going home today to his…. future home," Buffy explained.

"Yeah, and we were hoping, you know, that you could find it in the goodness of your heart, even though we know that you're mad at us, to, you know, just…. Throw away his file," Phoebe said.

"The one with the little arrest warrant in it," Dawn added.

"Apparently, I haven't made myself clear," Darryl said. "I am done covering for you. Done. Now if you'll excuse me."

Buffy stopped him from moving. "Darryl, think about it. Ok? The cops are gonna come for Chris, and what are they gonna find? They're gonna find a little itsy-bitsy baby."

"And then they're gonna find us, which risks exposure," Phoebe said.

"Well, maybe you should have thought of that before you broke Chris out of jail," Darryl said. "Inspector Sheridan thinks that Chris' breakout was an inside job, which, if I'm not careful, could point back to me. I've got a family to think about, too, you know." He glanced behind him and saw Inspector Sheridan walking toward them. "Great."

Sheridan stopped next to Darryl. "Have you seen Chris lately?"

"Chris who?" Dawn asked.

Sheridan looked at Darryl. "When you have a minute." She walked past them and toward the building. Without a word, Darryl followed her in.

Phoebe sighed. "At least Chris isn't gonna have to deal with her in the future."

Paige orbed in next to them holding Celia. Buffy glanced at her wife who nodded. "Are you nuts!" Dawn said as she slapped Paige's free arm so as not to hurt Celia. "Someone could've seen you."

"Sorry. And ow. But Piper needs us," Paige said.

Buffy and Dawn nodded as they took Paige and Phoebe's hands and Buffy flamed out with them.

Magic School

Leo walked into the Great Hall pushing Wyatt in his stroller as Piper walked alongside them.

Chris sighed and turned to look at his parents. "Where are Buffy, Dawn and Phoebe?

"Paige went to get them," Piper reminded her son. "I'm sure they'll be here soon."

"Soon?" Chris said. "Soon is when Dad and I have to go."

"Dad?" Piper said clearly surprised at this information. "What do you mean?" She turned to look at Leo. "Wait. You're gonna go, too?"

"Just long enough to make sure he gets where he needs to be," Leo answered.

"And when exactly were you gonna tell me about this?" Piper asked.

Chris sighed. I told him he didn't have to come. I don't need him."

"No," Leo objected. "It's too dangerous. Remember the last time you went through a portal? You were almost dinosaur kibble. I have to go."

"You're right," Piper said. "It is dangerous, but not as dangerous as leaving Wyatt alone while I'm in labor."

"I'll be back, I promise," Leo said just as Gideon walked into the Great Hall, an open book in hand.

"Sorry. I just wanted to go over the spell one more time, make a few tweaks," Gideon explained.

"Tweaks?" Piper asked not likeing the sound of that. "Let me see that." She grabbed the spell out of Gideon's hands to look at it just as Buffy flamed in with Dawn, Paige, Celia and Phoebe.

"Finally. Where have you three been?" Chris asked Buffy, Dawn and Phoebe.

"Sorry. We were a little, uh…. held up." Buffy said.

"But we're here now, so let's get this show on the road, you know?" Phoebe said. "The clock's a-tickin'. Tick-tock. Tick-tock."

"Since when are you in such a hurry to say good-bye?" Piper asked.

"Well, since something happened with the thing…. and the thing…. with the thing," Phoebe explained.

"Huh?" Chris said clearly confused.

Dawn sighed. "There's a warrant out for Chris's arrest."

"What!" Piper asked shocked. .

"Yeah," Buffy sighed. "We tried to get Darryl to bury it, but he's not really on our side anymore."

"Oh, this is bad," Chris said. "If I leave, and they can't find me, they're gonna come after you."

"It's ok," Phoebe said. "We've been through worse. We'll get through this. We'll figure it out. And if you get back to the future and we're in jail, you just have to bust us out." She held out her hands and Chris grasped them tightly. "You just go back to that beautiful, peaceful world that you helped create." They hugged each other. "I'm really gonna miss you."

"I'll miss you, too."

"Aw. Here comes the huggin' part." Paige said as she handed Celia to Dawn. Chris stepped forward to hug her.

Buffy smiled. "Come here, kiddo." She hugged Chris tightly. "I'm going to miss you, so much."

"I'm going to miss you, too." Chris said.

"Don't forget me," Dawn said as she handed Celia to Buffy. Chris smiled as he came up to her and hugged her. "I'm going to miss you."

"I am going to miss you, too, Aunt Dawn," he told her and then he turned to Buffy and kissed Celia on her forehead. "And you don't give your mom too much trouble. I'll see you soon."

"We'll tell her what happened so she will be waiting for you on the otherside," Buffy said as Chris smiled. "Just don't tell her in the future she came from that she died for you, okay?"

"I promise," Chris said as he turned toward his mother.

"Thank you for coming here." Piper said, stepping forward and hugging her son. "I love you."

"I love you so much, mom."

"Now go on. Hurry." Piper looked at Leo. "You be safe."

"Thanks for all your help," Chris said looking at Gideon.

"You did a noble thing in coming here." Gideon said.

Chris looked down at Wyatt sitting in his stroller. "Be good." With all the good-byes said, Chris and Leo turned to face the wall.

"In this place and in this hour, we call upon the ancient power, open the door through time and space, create a path to another place." Phoebe, Piper, Buffy, Dawn and Paige read together. The portal on the wall opened and Chris and Leo walked into it.

When the portal was supposed to close, a different Leo and Chris stepped out. They looked back at the wall. "Where are we?" Chris asked. He was sporting longer hair and a pierced eyebrow.

They slowly turned to look out in front of them. "I have no idea," Leo said.

"Something's gone wrong," Gideon said. "Don't let them leave." Leo stuck out a hand and pushed Gideon backward into Phoebe. Chris held out his hand and a darklighter's crossbow and arrow appeared, locked, loaded, and ready to fire. The arrow shot toward Paige.

Piper gasped and froze the arrow in mid-air. "Are you out of your mind?" She knocked the arrow out of the air.

"Follow me," Leo said. He and Chris orbed out of the room, their bodies turning into black orbs as they left.

"What the hell was that all about?" Dawn asked, helping Phoebe get to her feet and walk over to the spot in front of the wall.

Gideon also got to his feet and said, "I'm not sure."

"You're not sure?" Paige asked. "Chris just tried to kill me, and you're not sure? We were supposed to send him back to the future, not turn him into a darklighter."

"Excuse me, people," Piper said. "Those were black orbs. Where did they get black orbs from?"

"Breathe, Piper," Buffy said. "Remember what happened when we were pregnant with Celia and Wyatt. You don't want the stress to get to you again and you go into labor early."

"Well?" Paige asked Gideon.

"Perhaps the spell wasn't specific enough," he said.

"Meaning what?" Phoebe asked.

"Meaning it worked, obviously. It opened up a portal. Not to another time, but…. To another…. world. A parallel world. Not just any parallel world. One that's the exact reverse of ours."

"Reverse like what? Reverse like evil?" Dawn asked.

"Precisely. You see, it's all part of the grand design. A universe destined to maintain balance. Light and dark, yin and yang, good and evil. For good to prevail in this world, then an equally evil world must also exist."

"Well, that's quite a faulty design, isn't it?" Paige asked.

"No, it's not, Paige. Balance is everything. Without it, the cosmos doesn't spin."

"Are you telling me that when our Leo and Chris stepped in there, their evil selves stepped out?" Buffy asked.

"Yes. It's a mirror world. Whatever happens there happens here."

"So our Leo and Chris are in their evil world," Phoebe said.

"Well, we gotta go get 'em," Piper said.

"You can't go get them. You're not going anywhere." Phoebe said to Piper.

"Besides, what about those evil fellas that just came through here?" Paige asked.

"We'll go get them later," Piper said.

"Actually, I think you should go after them now," Gideon said.

"Why?" Dawn and Buffy asked.

"Because for every second that they're in our world, they risk throwing off the balance by doing something evil."

"Well, thanks for telling us this sooner," Buffy said. Gideon didn't have anything to say to that.

"Ok, let's go try and find evil Leo and Chris." Phoebe said. "Piper, you stay here and do not worry about a thing. We'll fix this."

"And would you watch Celia for us," Buffy said as she handed her daughter to Piper.

Golden Gate Bridge

Leo and Chris stood on the tallest tower of the bridge.

"You ever see anything so good?" Leo asked watching as his son drank a bottle of beer. "It's disgusting."

"Can you believe all the liquor stores are closed in the mornings here?" Chris asked. "What's up with that?"

"Didn't stop you from kicking down the door to get in," Leo reminded his son as Chris nodded. "Why didn't you orb in?"

"What's the fun in that?" Chris said with a smirk. He took another drink of his beer as Leo chuckled in appreciation. He took one last chug and then deliberately held the bottle out over the edge of the bridge. He dropped the bottle letting it fall on the unsuspecting people below.

"Strange. Everything seems the same, but ... kinda different, you know?" Leo said. "It's cleaner, it's happier, it's more civilized."

Chris smiled as they heard a car crash from below and the sound of people screaming. He turned and looked at his father. "Now that's what I'm talking about."

"This place makes me sick. I gotta get out of here," Leo admitted.

"Gives you an idea of what kind of awful, saccharine future I came from, why I had to come back and change it so bad," Chris admitted.

Leo nodded. "And I'll always be proud of you for that. You saved Wyatt from turning good. You gave us a second chance. The least I could do is get you back to your future, back to evil."

Chris smiled. "Thanks, dad."

"First we gotta get back to our world, though," Leo said. "We're gonna need the Power of Five to do that."

"Well, we can't trust those pollyanna witches," Chris told his father. "They're too good. God. Who do I have to kill so we can get out of here?"

"I think I might know somebody, somebody we can use to force the sisters to help us," Leo said as he grinned evily.

Halliwell Manor

Phoebe sat at the table scrying for evil Leo and Chris while Paige examined the crystals from the box. Buffy and Dawn sat watching everything.

"I don't understand." Phoebe said. "If they're just like our Leo and our Chris, then why do we need a crystal cage to trap them?"

"So they don't try to kill us again, for one thing." Paige said.

"Yeah, I don't think they were trying to kill us. I think that they were just surprised, like we were." Buffy said.

"Yeah, well, I am not taking any chances." Paige said. She looked at Phoebe. "Hey, did you get any hits yet?"

"No, nothing." Phoebe said. "They must not be doing anything evil."

"Yeah, well, if Gideon's right, it's just a matter of time," Dawn said. "Besides, we wouldn't want the cosmos to stop spinning, would we?"

"It's so weird to think that there are evil twins of us out there doing the exact same things as we are right now." Buffy said.

"I can't think about that," Dawn admitted. "It hurts my brain."

It was then that the scrying crystal hit the map. "Oh! I got 'em," Phoebe said.

Buffy, Dawn and Paige walked over and took a look at the map.

Alley

Chris smashed a garbage can lid against an already beaten Darryl who was being held up by Leo. Darryl fell back against the wooden pallets on the alley floor as Chris tossed the garbage can lid to the side.

"What the hell's wrong with you? I'm a cop," Darryl said.

"Pretty wimpy-looking one, too, if you ask me," Leo told his son.

"Nothing like our Darryl," Chris agreed as he took a couple of steps toward Darryl who scrambled back a bit. "I think that's the cheapest suit I've ever seen. What's the matter, huh? Girls not paying you enough?"

"Paying me?" Darryl said confused. "What has gotten into you?"

"Let's just say I don't like you coming at me in either world," Chris said as he grabbed Darryl by his lapels. He then tossed Darryl across the alley, where he landed hard. "This almost isn't any fun."

Darryl scrambled as he pulled out his gun. He held it point blank at Chris and Leo. "I don't care if you are under some kind of spell. Come any closer, I'll shoot. I swear."

"Gun," Chris said as the gun orbed into his hand. He laughed as he turned the gun on Darryl. "Now this is fun."

"Not yet," Leo reminded his son. "We still need him for leverage. He's no good to us dead. Not yet, anyway."

Knowing that his father was right, Chris let Leo take the gun from him.

It was at that moment that Paige orbed in behind Leo and Chris. She put two crystals down on the ground as Darryl said to her, "See? This is the crazy-ass kind of stuff that makes me not wanna have anything to do with you people."

Paige orbed out as evil Chris said, "Who are you talking to?"

"Us," Buffy said. "Gun!" she called out and the gun flamed out of Leo's hand and into her own. Then using Slayer strength she bent the barrel before tossing the gun aside.

"That's not going to stop us," Leo said.

"No, but…" Dawn started.

"This will," Paige finished, orbing in and putting the crystals down on the ground. It activated the crystal cage around them.

"Son of a bitch," Evil Leo said. An energy ball formed in his hand and he threw it at the cage bars trying to get out. The energy ball bounced inside the cage and they ducked trying to avoid getting hit.

The energy ball eventually disappated as Paige said, "Nice, Leo. I thought Dawn was the only one with that power." An energy ball formed in Dawn's hand for emphasis. "I didn't know you had it in you."

"Don't go anywhere," Phoebe said. She walked over to help Darryl.

He saw her outstretched hand and backed away from her, scrambling to his feet. "Stay away from me."

"Darryl, let us take you to Gideon," Buffy suggested as she moved next to Phoebe. "He can heal you."

"No! Stay away!"

"Darryl, please," Paige said.

"I said no, damn it! Leave me alone. I don't wanna have anything to do with you people anymore. Don't you understand?" Darryl ran away from the alley.

Dawn sighed and rolled her eyes. "Well, I don't think that helped our cause any."

Magic School

Gideon was seated in front of the chessboard looking at his reflection who likewise was seated in front of the chessboard.

"My Charmed Ones will be joining you soon," Gideon said. "Are you certain you can keep…"

"... mine away?" the reflection said. "Absolutely. I told them to wait at the manor for the good Leo and Chris to come to them." He points to the chessboard. "I'm taking your knight."

The black knight inside the mirror world moved through the mirror and over to Gideon's side where it crashed into the white knight smashing it to bits.

"I knew you'd do that," Gideon said as he and his reflection leaned forward in their seats staring at the chessboard. "So the next move, of course, is ..."

"... Piper," the reflection said. "Once she's in labor, we'll have a clear shot at both the boy and the girl."

"If we impress upon her the extent of the danger her sisters are in ..." Gideon started.

"... it will expedite matters," the reflection finished.

"But everything has to happen quickly. We're tinkering here with the grand design, risking its tenuous stability ..." Gideon said.

"... by creating an imbalance of power on one side. I know," the reflection reminded him. "But it's a far greater risk to allow Wyatt and Celia to grow up."

"... To threaten both worlds. I agree," Gideon said as he nodded at the reflection. With a wave of his finger, his white knight moved and smashed into the black queen.

The reflection smiled. "I like the way you think," he said as Gideon smiled back in appreciation.

"Gideon?" came Phoebe's voice form the direction of the Great Hall.

Gideon got to his feet, his head turned toward the door.

"No echo," the reflection said.

"A good sign," Gideon said.

The reflection stood up. "They can never know we were behind this."

"They won't," Gideon answered with a sigh. He glanced back at the mirror then headed for the door.

0 – 0 – 0 – 0 – 0

Buffy, Paige, Dawn and Phoebe waited in the Great Hall. They heard the door close and turned to see Gideon walking into the room. Buffy had a sudden shock go through her and she shivered. Before she could comment and before Dawn could ask if she was ok, Gideon said, "Did you catch them?"

"Yeah, stuck 'em in a classroom, and, you know, they can't orb out of there," Paige said.

"They are a little feistier than the real Chris and Leo," Phoebe said. "I don't know how we're going to get them to cooperate."

Gideon nodded. "Well, I'm sure your evil counterparts are anticipating exactly the same problems since, other than morality, you're one and the same."

"How does that help us figure out what we're supposed to do?" Buffy asked.

"Perhaps you should trade yourselves. You go into their world, they'll come into ours. You can each retrieve your respective Leo and Chris."

"Kind of makes sense," Paige said.

"And what about your evil counterpart? Will he be hip to this plan?" Phoebe asked.

"I have every confidence that he will be waiting there exactly as I am here." Gideon said. "But remember, good or evil, we're all after the same thing: Leo and Chris returned and the cosmic balance restored."

"Get Piper. We're gonna need the Power of Five."

Buffy glanced at Dawn. "I have a bad feeling about this."

"Is that what that shiver was about?" Dawn asked.

"I think so. Something's not right about him."

"What do you mean?" Paige asked.

"I can't explain it."

"Something maybe with your telepathy?" Dawn wondered.

"I don't know," Buffy said.

"Can it wait?" Phoebe asked.

Buffy sighed. "I guess so. But when this is all fixed, we've got to look into that feeling. It hit me too hard to be nothing."

Evil Magic School

The chalk-drawn quinquetra on the Great Hall wall glowed white and the portal between the two worlds opened. Buffy, Dawn, Phoebe, and Paige stepped out of the portal and into the Great Hall in the mirror world. They looked around and immediately noticed the differences. The place was darker and more malevolent weapons garnished the walls. Torturous, evil looking devices were out in the open where kids could get to them.

"Ok, where is everybody? Isn't Piper supposed to be here?" Buffy asked.

"This is weird. I don't think we should be here," Phoebe said.

"We should get out of here," Paige said.

Suddenly, a white light appeared out of nowhere and headed straight for them. The four of them ducked. When they looked up, Gideon was walking straight for them. "What are you doing? You're not supposed to be here," he said.

Magic School

Piper watched as the portal closed and no one came through. She turned around to look at Gideon, her look of surprise evident on her face. "Why didn't they come through?" she asked. "Where are they?"

"I don't know," Gideon answered.

Piper took a panicking breath and exhaled. "Ooh." She put a hand under her protruding belly to steady herself as she made her way toward a chair.

"Easy, Piper. Try to relax," Gideon said as he helped Piper to sit down. "We wouldn't you to go into premature labor, now, would we?" He glanced toward Wyatt and Celia.

Evil Magic School

"You have no idea what you've done," Gideon said. "Just by coming here, you may have thrown both worlds irreversibly out of balance."

"Ok, well, doesn't killing us sort of do that, too?" Dawn asked.

"Don't be ridiculous. If I wanted to kill you, I would have. I was just…. caught off guard."

"Well, you need to relax there, tiger," Phoebe said.

"It's a different world here Phoebe. One filled with distrust, even amongst allies."

"I don't understand," Dawn said. "Where are your Dawn, Buffy, Paige and Phoebe?"

"Out looking for your Leo and Chris," Gideon said. "They were supposed to bring them back here."

"Well, your Leo and Chris are at our Magic School waiting to be rescued," Paige said.

"Ok, this is just one big mess. What happened to the whole yin-yang business?" Buffy asked.

"It's been thrown off, possibly as a result of the exchange of Leo and Chris," Gideon said. "Two worlds…. that mirror each other when they're in balance. And they no longer are."

"Ok. If it's already bad, what's gonna happen now that we're here?" Dawn asked.

"With both sets of sisters on the same side, the balance is dangerously at risk. We have to work quickly to correct it."

"If you are suggesting a plan, don't," Phoebe said. "We've got it covered. You don't worry about it. We need to find this Piper."

"If you do, she'll probably kill you. She's evil, remember, and she's got a terrible temper. Worse when she's pregnant."

"Yeah, that's not much different in our world. Trust us, we can handle it," Buffy said.

"Your instincts are right to distrust me. I am evil, after all. But we both want the same thing."

"Ok, well, there's a little problem with that because your guys didn't uphold their end of the bargain," Paige said. "They did not find our guys."

"But you will. You know them…. know how they think."

"Ok, so we're gonna bring you your Chris and Leo, and then what?"

"You'll have our Piper for a Power-of-Five spell. She'll know it's the only way to get her men back. And if you encounter your counterparts, be careful. They will kill you."

Paige looked at the others and then orbed at with them

Evil Hallwell Manor

The world looked like hell. Trash littered the streets, broken car sirens blared in the background, loud pulsating rap music could be heard. The houses looked the same, but the front yards were unkempt and dirty. A man ran down the street with a purse tucked under his arm as the other neighbors ignored the theft.

"Ok, this place isn't just evil, it's ugly," Paige said as they duck out from behind an abandoned car parked on the side of the road.

"I don't think they're home," Phoebe said when they turned to look at the Manor. "And I don't wanna go in there to find out."

"Charmed Ones working for Evil. Who would've thunk it? Well, I'm with ya, especially after Gideon's little warning."

A kid riding a bike, took a metal rod he was carrying and swung it, breaking a car window. "Hey!" Phoebe called.

"I don't think Chris and Leo would've gone into that house either," Buffy said turning back to look at the house.

"Maybe they went to see Darryl like their counterparts did," Dawn said. "I think we should talk to Darryl."

"I don't think if Darryl wants to talk to us in the good world, he's not gonna wanna talk to us in the evil world." Paige said.

A neighbor, out walking his barking and growling rotweiler, rounded the corner. Phoebe was startled by the dog and let out a yelp of surprise. They turned and walked across the street to avoid the dog. A taxi drove down the street and on the top of the roof was an advertisement saying: Ask Phoebe / Read Me…. Or Else!

"Maybe he will, if he thinks we're them," Dawn said.

"Ok, I really think we need to get out of here," Paige said. She took out her cell phone.

"What're you doing?" Buffy asked.

"I wanna see if this works in the parallel world," Paige said looking to see if she her phone was getting any reception. "Ah! It does." She quickly dialed. "Hi, can I have Lieutenant Morris, please?"

"Hey!" They turned to see a patrol officer walking toward Mrs. Noble in her black jogging outfit leaning back against the parked car. "Lady, you want me to give her a second citation, it's gonna cost ya."

"Why, you greedy son of a…." Mrs. Noble growled. "Haven't I given you enough already?"

"Hey, don't give me that!" He pushed her back.

"Hey, leave her alone!" Phoebe cried.

The patrol officer saw the four of them walking toward him and immediately started to back away from them, making a hasty excuse. "I, uh, I wasn't really gonna give you that citation." He turned and ran as they reached Mrs. Noble. Phoebe helped her to her feet. As soon as she got a good look at Phoebe, she let out a scream and ran away from them.

"Wow," Phoebe said. "We must be some bad-ass witches in this world."

"Yeah. Remember that for when we meet up with bad-ass Darryl," Buffy said.
