Epilogue

Spring, 1617

I've seen hundreds of new worlds... . What could possibly be different about this one?

He remembered how cocky he was to utter those words, ten years ago. So much had changed within that time frame. Not long after reaching Virginia, he had met his wife, when he nearly shot her at a waterfall. He had come to love this world, her people, her customs...but circumstances sent him back to London. And later, she followed him. She came to his world and came to love it. They returned to her homeland before their first son was born, along with John's long lost relatives.

This was her homeland, and his home as well, for several years. Now it was time for the family to return to England for their children to be educated.

He thought of the time he must have missed, while recovering from that gunshot and remaining in London. The people he came to know over the years, some now long gone. Many men had come to Virginia, only to die of disease, shortly after—Bart being one of them. Ken's suspicious behavior in Spain had him become accused of being their espionage, subsequently, leading to his execution that fall. Fortunately for him, he received the gentleman's death of the firing squad, as opposed to a commoner's hanging. Archer had passed during the "starving time," a couple years after his initial landing.

Wingfield had attempted to govern the colony, only to be overthrown and sent back to England to answer charges against him.

Martin and Newport would travel between the two worlds. Newport had made one final voyage to Java... .

Percy would attempt to govern the colony for a couple years, but eventually grew weary, literally and figuratively, returning to England. (The man hasn't been successful on his own.)

And that man (who shall not be named), that should have been put away the first time after shooting him, only to try framing him, had long been put away once and for all.

"Dad, are you ready?" His blue-eyed son looked up at him, interrupting his thoughts.

"Yes, Thomas, 'tis time to go."

He looked at this land, with the same eagerness as he had seeing it for the first time, before boarding his ship along with his wife and four children. The wind blew around him, and it reminded him of a familiar presence. I'll never forget, mate.

Perhaps someday, they would return.
