Set sometime in season four, after Dean finds out about the demon blood.

No matter how hard he tries to hide it, how he ducks behind his "no chick-flick moments" motto, there are some things Dean just can't ignore. Some words that cut too deep, some looks that...that tear him apart. He's seeing one right now, in Sam's eyes, as his little brother watches him, watches him like Dean used to watch Sam - as if he had to protect him from the world.

But Sam isn't protecting him.

"You're a monster." The words he had said moments before hung in the air and he stared at Sam, feeling nervousness trill up his back like fingers stroking along his spine. He hadn't meant to say them - hell, he hadn't even known he'd felt this way...no. No, that was a lie. He'd known he'd felt this way for a very long time. Ever since he brought Sam back. Ever since he sold himself to save what he thought was his brother.

Christ, was Sam even his brother anymore?

The hurt look on that puppy-dog face told Dean that Sam could read his words on his face, could just...know what he was thinking. And it was tearing him up inside, but, really, if this...thing wasn't his brother, should he care?

Should he?
