Casey had never been an optimist and she never would be, but when she thinks about all the times she and Henry found their way back to each other, she can't help but grin. She always thought that she was above falling in love, that surely her failed marriage would have set her straight. Constance is a dear friend, but she swears that to believe in love is just idealistic. But that was all before Henry.
She had fucked him up and she knew a part of him resented her for it, but he would drop anything for her. And that scared her. She was scared that someday, she would drive him away for good. But there was a little part of her that was more afraid that he would leave her, shattered into little pieces and she didn't want that. She was a grown woman, for fuck's sake.
But she remembers coming back after months without seeing him and how much it actually hurt when she found out he was with someone else. And she remembers how embarrassed she was when she thought that he would forgive her just like that. How could he? She was a fucked up mess that would only destroy him. One second she's off on a tangent about finally getting her big break and one phone call later she's a sobbing wreck.
For some reason, he thanks her for that. Because he says that without her, he would have given up on his dream completely. He tells her he would be there for her just as she was there for him. For every audition, every callback, every rejection. Every night she's up on stage at some comedy bar, even when they don't appreciate her humour. He promises he'd be the guy in the front row laughing the hardest without seeming totally lame. And she appreciates it. She really does. Every little thing he does for her.
She's proud of him too, because he really is a fantastic actor whose talents just haven't been fully realised. She makes sure that she's always there to encourage him whenever he's in doubt (because let's face it, he always is.) She actually tries so hard to make everything work but he makes her realise that it's even better when she's not trying and just being herself. He says she naturally makes him happy and she'd like to believe that if it wasn't for the fact that she would always be a little insecure. All the rejection has to affect her someway, after all.
Still, even with working at a failing catering business to make ends meet, she would never regret a single moment leading up to this. No, they weren't perfect, and their friends are probably worse, and they were all a dysfunctional little family but they always had each other's backs. They knew Casey and Henry were meant to be even when they kept trying to fool themselves into thinking they weren't. They were crazy, fucked up, and messy, but who wasn't a little like that? What fun would it be if they weren't? What was life without a little gamble, without a throw of the dice? No risk, no reward, right?
"Right." She says with a smirk while balancing a tray of hors d'oeuvres on her hand, looking forward to another wild night, courtesy of Party Down.
AN: Ahh I know, it's been a while since Party Down got cancelled but I just finished watching all 20 episodes again and I just wanted to do something. They should totally make a movie. Or a third season. Or both. I'm going through withdrawals here.
