The sound of a hungry baby's cry woke Remus and Tonks from their slumber. Groaning, Tonks pushed herself into a sitting position, but Remus caught her wrist. "It's my turn. I'll go."

He rubbed his eyes tiredly and swung his legs out of bed. Tonks interrupted before he could leave. "You most certainly will not! The full moon was only a night ago; you need to rest. You can go the next two times, and I'll go now." She thought she was being quite reasonable.

"You had a baby barely a week ago. You need to rest!"

"You say that every single time," Tonks protested. "And while we're debating here, our baby is till crying. So let's go together." That settled it.

Side by side, they walked the few steps separating Teddy's room from their own. They'd wanted to keep him with them, but Andromeda had pointed out that she might get up and tend to Teddy sometimes, and having him in a separate room removed the need to wake the entire household.

"I actually wanted to get up," Remus told her conversationally. "I like spending time with him in the quiet, just watching him…"

"I know, I love it, too. It feels so special, sitting there with our son. Our son, Remus!" Even though it had been a week, the excitement of their new reality as parents hadn't really worn off for either of them yet. Remus doubted whether it ever would, and he was fine to live each day as awestruck and happy as he did then.

They stood over the basinet, smiling down at the side of Teddy's face, all that could be seen poking out of his blankets. "Time for a midnight snack," said Tonks, reaching in and cradling her son gently in her arms.

"I'll get the bottle from downstairs."

By the time Remus had returned with the aforementioned item, Teddy had stopped crying and Tonks had settled down on the bed, with a protective barrier of cushions behind, in front, and beside her.

Remus handed her the bottle, his eyes on Teddy.

She laughed. "Do you want to feed him?"

Remus grinned and nodded, only slightly sheepish, and they swapped places.

Teddy sucked greedily at the bottle, devouring the milk almost quicker than he could swallow it. "Someone's got a big appetite, don't you, Mister?"

Remus glanced at her, amused. "I never thought I'd hear you coo like that."

"It's not like you don't do it as well…" He had no response for that, and it was time for Teddy to go back to sleep.

"I don't want to leave him here by himself, Remus. Maybe he can stay with us?" Remus needed no persuading, carrying Teddy back into their room slowly and carefully. They did everything slowly and carefully now; Teddy was much too important to warrant anything else.

Remus lowered Teddy down next to Tonks, placing a tender kiss on his forehead before climbing into bed himself. "He's so beautiful."

"He's a Christmas miracle who didn't come at Christmas. He's our little angel," Tonks smiled.

As she and Remus watched, Teddy blinked up at them, opening his mouth wide in a tired yawn and then slowly settled back to sleep, with his parents lying on either side.
