"Where should I put it?" I asked the head of Bookman family.

"Hmmm… put it somewhere in the kitchen, we'll need it later." Lavi smiled at me and walked quickly to the living room, while I headed to the kitchen. Already in there, I placed a big box with fast foods, chips and sweets on the floor. I smiled down at the box. After all it was Lavi and Lenalee's kid's birthday. With how many there were we needed quite a bit of food.

"Um, Kanda? Could you take care of placing the food on the plates, please? Use those from the right shelf." Lenalee instructed me and then instantly disappeared behind the door's frame.

"Ahh…" I sighed deeply but started to work nevertheless. As I was working with opening the tenth packet of jelly beans I heard a 'ding dong' sound coming from the door's direction.

"Lavi, Lenalee! Somebody's at the door!" I shouted, but as I listened to the kids and their parents yelling in the living room, I guessed there was no point in waiting for them to answer it. The ringing became more frequent and irritating, so I dropped the packet of jelly beans and rushed to answer the door.

"Yes, yes, right away! Ah, welcome-" I opened the door intending to welcome the next guest.

"Yuu…" In front of me stood Allen, shock evident in his eyes. Unconsciously on his face appeared a wide smile and I could swear that I was smiling like a mad man too. However, after his palm reached up to put some strands of white hair behind his ear, his smile turned into his famous poker face. He walked in gracefully.

"Kanda, I haven't seen you in my clinic lately. That's not good; we need to make up the lost time." As he was talking I politely helped him take off his jacket. We both did our best not to look into each other's eyes.

"Ah, I've had a lot of things to do. I will call you tomorrow." He smiled lightly.

"Kanda tomorrow is Sunday."

I mentally face palmed myself.

"Oh…right. I mean… on Monday. I'll call you on Monday." I tried to smile as well. We then fell into an uncomfortable silence. Thankfully Luca and Carmen came to my rescue.

"Uncle Allen!" Allen kneeled down to hug them tightly. "What did you bring us?"

"Oh-ho! Why should I bring you anything?" Allen asked playfully.

"Because it's our birthday!" Carmen smiled knowingly.

"Okay, maybe I have something for you. I think that it even might be that huge box that's standing in your living room…"

"HAAA? So it's our present? Let's go then, let's go!" Luca pulled me by my sleeve while Allen took Carmen up. We all walked into the biggest room in the house.

Hmm… For a moment it felt like Carmen and Luca were our own kids. It would be nice to have a family…

With Allen, my stupid brain added without my help.

"Oh, Allen! Welcome, welcome! We were just setting the table." Lenalee smiled at Allen and took him to the kitchen.

"Kanda, go grill the barbecue."

Barbecue? Is he fucking serious?

"Stupid Rabbit, what barbecue? It's fucking December, isn't it a little too cold for that?" I asked him with venom evident in my voice.

"Oh, my poor, silly Yuu. Just go, you can do it." He tried to shoo me outside. No way. I forcefully took him with me outside to their terrace and closed the door behind us.

Perfect, that stupid Rabbit had no escape now.

I looked at the fire, nearly ready to put meat and vegetables on it. I walked closer to it in order to try to keep warm. It was so fucking cold outside.

"May I know why Allen is here?" I tried to sound calm.

"Allen? Didn't you just call him Walker inside?" Lavi knew me better than I'd thought. I could feel his smirk behind my back.

"It kind of happened. So?"

"We thought that it was time you two talked things over."

"We?" I turned to him, annoyed already. "You mean Lenalee and you? What the hell were you thinking? He doesn't want to look at me, not to mention talk to me!" I spat angrily at him.

Ugh! I didn't like that smug smile on his face.

"Ah. Right, right." He waved at me dismissingly. "Just take care of the fire!" He said as he went back inside.

Fuck, easier said than done. I was back to the fire, trying not to freeze to death. I didn't know how long I stood there, from time to time turning over some logs, when the door opened with Lavi bringing out the uncooked food. I looked back.

It wasn't Lavi.

"Kanda, I brought sausages and meat. I also brought vegetables in this other bowl. Carmen wants paprika, so we'll warm it up until the end …" Allen was using his skills to try to make a small talk with me in order to not talk about more personal things. I let him go on for some time, but eventually I decided to help him put the food on the grill.

"Why did you just leave?" Oops, that wasn't what I wanted to say.

"Why did you just leave?" Shit, not that again. I just wanted to ask him if the fire wasn't too big. "Why did you leave me?" That really wasn't supposed to happen. "Is my hair too blue? If you don't like it then I could always paint it. Is my house too small? If so then I can buy a bigger one! You don't like the way I speak? I'll stop talking then!" With every second I sounded more desperate. "! I will change everything about myself in order to make you like me again. Or maybe is it that I'm just not good enough for the great Allen Walker?"

"KANDA!" I wanted to go on, but Allen's voice woke me up from my mantra. I looked at him, but his head was hanging loosely down and I wasn't able to see his eyes due to his beautiful white bangs. His little fists were clenched so hard that they'd turned white.

"Yuu, you idiot!" He finally yelled at me when I thought that he was going to remain unmoving. The next thing I felt was his warm body pressed closely to mine. After his arms found their way around my back, he buried his face into the crock of my neck.

"You…you…YOU IDIOT!" He shouted at me. I swore that I could feel his tears on my skin or maybe they were my own tears…?

I'd promised myself that he would be the one to apologize, but seeing him in his actual state made me rethink my decision. My arms circled around his waist.

"Shh…. Hey, Allen, shhh…" I was whispering reassuringly into his ear. After a while he calmed down, but we stayed in our comfortable position.

"Hey, Allen if you really don't want to tell me it's fine…"

"I was scared."

…ha?

"Ha? Scared of what? Of me?" Without thinking I reached for his arms and pulled him slightly away from me. I finally looked at him.

"N-noo… But you know… I think it's a long story…"

I sighed. He wanted to leave this conversation for later.

"I think we have plenty of time."

He looked at me surprised.

"Plenty of time? But aren't we making dinner?"

"We just finished putting the meat on the grill; it's going to be a while until it finishes cooking…"

"…"

"…"

"Shit!" We roared and let go. We started turning over the food

"Ehm, Yuu… I think it's done."

"Ah, you couldn't put it in better words. It's done."

I admitted while looking seriously at the piece of meat that was… totally black.

"Ha. Ha. Haha…!" We broke into loud laughter together.

I missed it.

I glanced at his face, as he whipped his tears of joy.

Ah, I definitely missed it.

"Is the food rea-ady?" Lenalee stopped halfway. "Is everything okay?" She asked, but I knew that she wasn't talking about the food.

"Ah. It's okay." Allen answered for us both and smiled at me."It's okay now!" His laughter appeared to be contagious again.

The fire on the chimney was burning steadily. Being the only source of light in the room, it made everything look more secretive, more mysterious, and more beautiful.

My hand traveled up from Allen's hip, up his waist and finally it ended up hugging him and pulling closer to me. He smiled unconsciously when my other hand started playing with his hair; his head followed my palm searching for the warmness.

I couldn't take my eyes of him; the flames were dancing on his hair and on his arms but didn't reach the rest of his naked body hidden under the blanket. And once again I felt so fucking happy, that the perfect person lying by my side was all mine and only for me.

Allen's eyelids opened slightly, while his own hand started exploring my face, caressing it lightly.

"Hey, Yuu…"

"Hmm?" I whispered back, but we didn't stop touching each other.

"When you said you wanted to know my reasons, did you mean it?" His eyes turned from sparkling happiness to worrisome ones. "That whatever it was, you would understand?"

"Of course." I assured him.

"I see…" He smiled. "Maybe I can trust somebody who carelessly jumped me the moment we made it inside my house. Next time it happens I want us to end up in my bed, not on the carpet in the living room." He smirked sexily at me, as I blushed. Okay, maybe I had been a little eager. So what? I'd missed him, for God's sake!

"And you know, Yuu…" He added after a short break. "You know, I thought that maybe saying this would be not enough. I thought… maybe you would…" His head once again found its way to the crook of my neck. "Do you want to spend Christmas with my family?"

Oh, he just asked me if I wanted to spend Christmas with his family.

WHAT?

Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas once again! :D
