"Oh. My. God. You ran into Caroline? Nick's ex? How did he react? Do you think he's over her? Am I going to have to hurt someone?"

Jess and Cece were having brunch at one of their favorite restaurants. The food was delicious and the bottomless mimosas made this place irresistible. Jess had divulged every detail about her date with Nick the night before to Cece, who was becoming overprotective of her best friend after learning that Jess and Nick had run into his ex-girlfriend.

"Cece, calm down. Nick actually seemed over Caroline when we ran into her last night," Jess tried to reassure her best friend.

"Are you sure Jess?"

"Yes Cece, I can't explain it, I just know…He's over her. He is definitely over her."

"Because he's into you…?"

Jess blushed, ignoring Cece's last question. Nick hadn't actually said to Jess what she was to him but she could feel that she was important to him. They were more than just roommates or even friends. She had a connection with him that she had never had with anyone else. Maybe he couldn't express to her how he was feeling right now, but she knew that she meant something to him. He was unable of having a real conversation with her, but the way he held onto her last night, the way he reacted to seeing Caroline, the supposed love of his life, Jess just knew, knew that she was an important part of his life.

"Jess?" Cece snapped her fingers in Jess's face. "You okay?

"Yeah, I'm great actually," Jess smiled.

Jess and Cece finished up their brunch, making plans to meet up for drinks later on in the week, before heading off in different directions back to their respective homes.

Jess headed back to apartment 4D feeling more confident than she had been before leaving for brunch with Cece. Last night, she was worried about Nick seeing Caroline, but after she talked the night through with Cece, Jess felt better about her situation with Nick.

"What are you smiling about?" Schmidt asked as Jess walked into the kitchen of 4D.

"What? Nothing!" Jess shrieked.

Admittedly, she had been thinking about Nick, her roommate, her roomfriend, seriously, the one person who she really shouldn't be thinking about.

"Alright…" Schmidt said, disbelievingly.

Truthfully, Jess couldn't stop thinking about Nick. Since that night that he came and rescued her from her date, she knew that there was something going on between them. Each day that had passed since then proved that there was something bigger going on between them. And last night, their date, the way he held onto her when they ran into Caroline? Clearly, he felt something for her. And she felt something for him. But she wasn't ready to let him know. And she didn't think he was ready to let her know either.

Jess headed into her room, away from Schmidt and his suspicious looks, where she spent the rest of the afternoon preparing her lesson plans for the week. Nick had an afternoon shift at the bar and Jess took the time away from him to be productive. She was failing miserably though as she was having trouble keeping her mind off of Nick. How was it that he could have this hold on her? They weren't anything serious, and yet she thought about him more than she had ever thought about any of her previous boyfriends.

Jess's thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. She looked up and saw Nick walking through the door.

"How was work?" She asked as he flopped down onto her bed, resting his head in her lap.

"Awful."

"What happened?"

"Caroline came in to see me," Nick groaned. "She told me she wants to get back together."

Jess didn't know what to say. She felt her heart pounding in her heart. This was it, it was over with Nick. She had misread everything. The way Nick was holding onto her last night wasn't because he was into her. It was because it was killing him to see Caroline and not be able to be with her. She knew that Caroline had broken his heart when she ended things with him and that Nick had wanted to get back together with her. Just as she was falling for Nick, he was going to end things so that he could go back to the one that got away. Jess could feel the tears building up. She tried her best to hold them back, disappointed with herself for not being able to hide her feelings.

"I told her no," Nick said breaking the silence.

Jess was shocked by what she was hearing. He said no?

"I told her I have moved on. There's someone else I want to be with."

Jess's heart skipped a beat. He said no! He didn't want to be with Caroline, he wanted to be with her.

Nick sat up onto his knees, looking Jess in the eyes. He smiled at her as he wiped away the tears in her eyes. She smiled back at him. He took her face in his hands and kissed her passionately. She couldn't stop smiling as she kissed him back, elated that he was opening up about how he felt, ecstatic that he wanted to be with her.

"I want to be with you Jess. I don't want this to just be a casual hook-up anymore. I want you."

"I want you too Nick."

"I'm all in."

"I'm all in," she laughed, leaning back in to kiss him.
