137In celebration of the new book title (omfg so excited) this drabble contains a sentence of the new book. And nope. I don't own Lorien Legacies.
84. OUT COLD
"What are you doing?"
"I could ask you the same thing." I smile.
"I asked first." Eight's eyes shine playfully. He's out on the terrace in Nine's penthouse. It's dark, probably after midnight so we shouldn't be here. We should be sleeping so tomorrow when Nine tries to kick our asses, we don't fail miserably. I'm getting better at it. That's what they have been telling me, but it's not enough. It will never be enough.
Frustration and anger build up in me and my chest feels heavier.
"Marina?"
I snap out of it.
"Marina." He's frowning. He never frowns. He's scared.
"What?" I ask. "What's wrong?"
"They took Ella." It's not his voice anymore.
I barely mutter his name when his eyes widen in shock and blood comes out of his mouth making my heart freeze in fear. He touches his chest and I see it. A sword through his chest. Again, but worse than before.
I am holding the sword.
"M-marina."
"Oh God. No. No." I'm crying. "No. I'm sorry, Eight. I didn't mean it. I don't- know-I didn't. Eight." My voice breaks as I touch his wound. There's blood everywhere.
I need to heal him.
I feel the cold sensation through my hands. Close your eyes, breathe, relax, do it.
But it's too cold, too dead.
I open my eyes to see frost covering his chest. It's spreading fast and I can't stop it. Everything is cold and frozen.
"No. No. Please."
He barely manages a smile before falling down and merging with the snow-covered ground. I close my eyes and I hate myself.
I need to go. I need to leave.
And I do.
The nightmare is over. When I open my eyes, there's nothing but darkness.
