Summary: Elijah follows Caroline, who is in New Orleans, around the city. He hopes to get to talk to her, because Hayley's safety is really important for him and for his brother. Is it?

BECAUSE SHE IS AN ANGEL
(part I)
Elijah was amused. Sitting in a beautiful café keeping an eye on the young girl. He was amused. The girl kept shifting her gaze from her paper cup of coffee (ones Elijah wasn't a big fan of) and him.
She giggled again.
"Why are you laughing for?" he had to ask.
"Sorry, it's just weird. You here with a pretty tux in a cafeteria staring at the poor cup of coffee that has done nothing to you" she took in a deep breath.
He had found Caroline Forbes in the street and followed her to a book store. Then somehow they had swapped papers and she had followed him to the cafe. Elijah regretted not getting into a prettier and cleaner place. And then they had sat down far into the cafe.
"I'm not really into these 'cups' and let me say I almost feel compelled into doing air comas to remark my sarcasm in the word cups. Almost" but he didn't. Caroline smiled politely and nodded.
"You were the one following me, so deal with it"
"That I was. I admit it" like the gentleman he was. Her smile didn't disappear from her face. "I was wondering why you haven't contacted my brother when you got into the city. I though there was something between you two. Maybe I was right and saw it was nothing" It was weird for his brother to pay attention to a sole woman.
"I didn't want to bother as he is busy with Hayley"
"That she is"
"She is so good and worth the time, right?" Elijah was happy Caroline liked Hayley. The girl carrying part of his family was nice and hadn't had an easy life. Someone finally understood him.
"Yes, she is"
"She had never done nothing wrong, right?
"That she hasn't"
Elijah knew it was weird for him to answer in such a robotic and silly way but it was the one the fit better. It made Caroline smile.
"That, sweet Elijah, is where you are wrong"
"What?"
Yes, the most common and used question in the world is also used by the weirdest kind of vampire in the world. The original vampire also had his moments.
"Well, I'm sure you know of yours angel's part of how Tyler got his mother killed"
"Tyler made Niklaus angry. Nicklaus killed her"
"That's right"
"I know"
"But that's far from being everything in the story" Caroline smiled. Elijah saw her way then. If you can't kill them with force kill them with kindness. Caroline was being remarkably polite and quiet. He didn't say anything, so Caroline took it as a 'please keep talking, please' and so she did. "Angel got twelve kids to go with Tyler revenge against your brother playing saviour when her actual plan was to have them killed. She didn't want to get her hands dirty by killing them herself so she got Klaus to do that. Angel gets Klaus mad, Klaus kills the hybrids, as a punishment to Tyler for the rebellion Klaus kills Carol Lockwood. Angel flies and we got two angry hybrids fighting and a stupid werewolf without the information of her parent for what she got twelve persons dead. And the first part of Silas's curse broken which led to Silas being risen and got your supposedly love of your life human and almost dead"
Elijah was going to speak, only to be shuttled up by a fast hand move from Caroline.
"And yes, I'm speaking of Katherine. I've been spending time with her lately. Even human and vampire-powerless she still kept an eye on you. Which let me tell you it's absolutely romantic. But Hayley Angel is more important. Of course. Do you know how long it took me and Tyler (working separately) to find out things about her family? A weekend long road trip, well Tyler was already there so he didn't have any awesome solo road trip. But anyway, I did. At the end: she is a homeless pregnant werewolf who wears designer clothes (How?) and lives free in a palace, being rude to her attractive hosts. I wonder how Rebekah hasn't rip out her head"
That was one of Elijah's many wonders too.
Caroline was still kept talking.
"And I wonder if the kid it's actually Klaus's. It's not provable that a witch (remember that most of them hate vampires) that has not personal love or better, respect for any of you. She obviously doesn't have any need of tell you the truth if a lie can get her wished accomplished by lying to a lonely family" she sighed. "I wonder if Hayley even knew"
She smiled and took a sip from her coffee.
Elijah was left speechless.
"And now brother, I hope you never had doubts of Caroline's intelligence" Elijah was proud to say he didn't jump when Niklaus appeared by their side. He truly had not known Niklaus was there. He had been too busy listening to Caroline Forbes.
"Hello, love" his brother greeted Caroline with a smile. Which Caroline hardly acknowledged. She kept looking at him.
"Elijah, admit she is making you nervous. She will not stop doing that (the smiling) until you do. Don't worry, it's normal. With her around I feel nervous too" taking a chair Niklaus took sit by the table. "I find her theory quite interesting. And to be honest, I'd love to get rid of the Hayley problem. She is annoying and not worth it. Like a badly written character. Caroline is much funnier, more interesting and way prettier"
"Queen material"
Caroline giggled. "Oh Elijah, stop. You will make me blush"
Elijah's head was almost hurting. What was he doing there?
Panic rose again when Caroline spoke.
"Don't fear Elijah"
As if.
"I am, as usual, smarter than most of people and I came here ready" she grinned. "I got my own friend who wouldn't lie to me and who is really strong. This Lavina girl won't even know she is here. Well actually, doesn't. Bonnie is already in town"
Niklaus looked so proud he seemed about to burst in flames. The smug look Niklaus was giving Elijah was almost hilarious. Well, who are we going to lie. It was hilarious.
Caroline was also proud of herself.
"If you mind I have books to buy and clothes to pick up. See you"
Klaus rose from his chair. "See you soon, love"
Caroline smiled for the millionth time in the evening and left in a light step.
"Big brother, I dare you to say she is not an interesting thing"
