Year 1: chapter 7 – Halloween
Previously:
"James, Sirius, possibly Remus, you will serve your punishment during the next break." McGonagall announced.
"What?" Remus said, startled. "Me too? But I thought you said that-"
"I said possibly," McGonagall interrupted. "I'm not sure if you should be punished as well, but I'll get back to you."
"Er...alright then..." Remus said, before slapping the back of Sirius's head. "Quick, start reading." he hissed. "I don't want Minnie to punish us more."
Sirius shivered at the thought and gave a quick nod. "Year 1, chapter 7," Sirius read. "Halloween, awesome! I get to read this chapter!"
"Oh, sweet!" James exclaimed. "Our Halloween prank!"
"Shh!" Remus hissed, slapping a hand over James's mouth. "Spoilers!"
James blinked, staring at the hand over his mouth, before shooting the other Marauder an irritated look. He muttered something behind Remus's hand, then grabbed Remus's wrist and pulled his hand away with ease. "I see I'm still stronger than you." He teased.
Remus blinked in slight shock. How had he done that so easily? "..." Remus frowned, glaring at James, grumbling something under his breath. He'd been de-aged to 21; was this why he wasn't as strong?
For the next few weeks, the four best mates spent all their free time planning their first big prank that would introduce The Marauders to Hogwarts.
"Write down, spend more time planning pranks." Fred muttered to George, who nodded and wrote something something down in the notebook. Next to them, Percy scoffed. As if they didn't play enough pranks already.
They kept themselves locked in their dorm with an anti-eavesdropping spell on their room so no one could overhear them planning their prank.
"One of my first successful spells." Sirius grinned.
"And one of your only successful spells." Remus muttered.
"OI!" Sirius protested. "I wasn't that bad!"
"Sure Sirius." Remus said dryly. "Whatever you say."
They knew better this time so sometimes they split up in their planning.
Remus would go to the library to look up spells and potions that they could use for their prank since none of his friends would go to the library of their own free will. Sirius and Peter would sit in the Common Room pretending to be like good little kids,
Lily's lips twitched before she burst out laughing as Sirius pouted. "S-Sirius?" She giggled. "A good little kid?"
"Just remember that, 'pretending' is the key word here." Tonks grinned.
Sirius pouted slightly. "I can be good!" He protested.
Nearly everyone that knew him stared at him incredulously. "..."
"Pfft," Remus burst out laughing. "HA! You? Be good?! That's hilarious!"
"I'm right here, you know." Sirius grumbled.
"W-we know." Lily laughed. "It's just so...so..."
"Unbelievable?" Remus offered.
"Not possible?" James grinned.
Sirius pouted. "You guys just hate me."
"Why I never!" Lily said dramatically.
"We never said that!" James protested.
Remus snickered. "No, but we thought it."
playing exploding snaps or wizard chess while Remus was in the library and James was out sneaking around the school under his invisibility cloak to get supplies that they needed.
They spent some time with the Quidditch team
"Against my will." Remus muttered.
"C'mon, you enjoyed it!" James protested.
"I did not." Remus scoffed.
"Did too." Sirius grumbled, still annoyed from the earlier conversation.
"Did not!" Remus pouted.
"Did too~" James sang.
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did not!"
"Did too!"
"Did no-"
"JUST SHUT UP! YOU'RE GIVING ME A HEADACHE!" Tonks shouted, slamming her head on the table as her hair turned black, earning several awed looks from the students.
Remus and James sweatdropped. "Sorry, Dora..."
"DON'T CALL ME DORA!"
"Er...sorry, Tonks." Remus said sheepishly.
"Better." Tonks muttered, crossing her arms as she lifted her head off the table. "Honestly, can't you both act your own age?"
Remus smiled innocently, folding his hands and resting his chin on them. "But I'm not my own age, Nymphadora. I think I deserve a little fun."
"Just don't be thinking of doing any pranks, Mr. Lupin!" McGonagall said shrilly from the Head Table. "We get enough of that from the Weasley Twins."
George and Fred broke out into identical grins as they received many looks of amusement and a few glares.
Remus gave a dramatic sigh. "You take all the fun away."
and playing games with them to keep suspicion off of themselves.
At the moment, Sirius and Peter were in the Common Room waiting for Remus and James to get back. Remus was in the library and James was getting supplies from Zonko's.
Remus looked up at the clock in the library and paled. Curfew was in five minutes.
"Getting to the Common Room from the library in five minutes is nearly impossible!" Hermione exclaimed. "You'll never make it!"
Remus grinned. "Unless I have a certain cloak..."
Harry looked at Remus, surprised. "You stole Dad's cloak?"
"Not exactly..." Remus smirked as James filled with happiness at being called 'Dad'. "It was...given to me...ish...eh, what the heck...I'm lying. Yeah, I stole it."
"The Great Professor Lupin? Lying?" Tonks gaped at Remus, eyes glinting in amusement.
"You shoulda seen him at Hogwarts!" Sirius cackled.
"Should have, Sirius." Remus sighed. "Not… 'shoulda'. It's 'should have'."
Reyna, a fifth year Ravenclaw, grinned a bit. It seemed that Professor Lupin was a grammar nazi. She could understand that greatly. It annoyed her so much when people spoke incorrectly.
Josh, a sixth year Hufflepuff, grinned. "And though we're not seeing it, we are hearing all about how Professor Lupin was a devious brat while at school."
"A brat?" Remus said offended. "While I admit to being devious, I was by no means a brat. That title belonged to James and Sirius."
James snorted. "You had your bratty moments, Remus. Like that time in fifth year…" He growled, glaring at Remus.
Remus sweat dropped. He was sure he knew what James was referring to, but he really didn't want to go there. "In any case….I don't think I used the cloak this time, but I have stolen it before to use."
He would never be able to make it back to the tower in time. He grabbed his bag and a few books he was reading and ran out of the library.
Remus walked quietly in the hallway, using his wolf hearing to make sure he didn't run into any teachers or prefects.
"I guess that's one perk of being a werewolf." Remus muttered, a small smile on his lips.
James grinned. "You have no idea how many times you've saved our butts with your werewolf hearing."
"You used your heightened senses to sneak around?" Jordan asked with a grin.
"Of course. It was a bit complicated in the beginning when James and Sirius didn't know about me being a werewolf, but it all worked out in the end." Remus replied.
The young werewolf heard footsteps approaching and ran down a few flights of steps. He stopped running and leaned against a picture of fruit. Taking a few deep breaths to calm his racing heart, Remus turned to look where he was. When he turned his head, his hair brushed against the pear, making the painting giggle.
Fred and George looked up at this. Did they find the kitchens? It sounds like it...
"What's with the ticklish pear?" Dean muttered.
"Another secret passageway?" Neville shrugged.
Surprised, Remus jumped in the air. He looked at the painting and tickled the pear, curious to see if it would do anything. The pear giggled more and a gold handled appeared on the pear.
"Where was this again?" Seamus said excitedly. "I have an idea of what it is."
"What it is?" Dean questioned.
"I think it's the kitchens!"
"The kitchens?" Dean said, sounding excited. "Awesome!" He rubbed his hands together excitedly. Now that they had an idea of where it was, they could finally get midnight snacks.
Blinking in shock, Remus opened the painting and went inside. He looked around the room to see it was as huge as the Great Hall. There were glittering brass pots and pans around the stone walls. At the other end of the room was a huge brick fireplace. There were hundreds of house elves in the room.
Hermione huffed at this, crossing her arms. "I still can't believe they use all those poor house elves for labor." She muttered.
"Hermione, it's not labor if they like it." Ron groaned. "Are you really still on about spew?"
"It's not spew, Ronald!" Hermione said hotly. "It's the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare!"
"Yeah, yeah," Ron said offhandedly. "Sirius, why don't you continue?"
"Because this conversation is entertaining?" Sirius suggested, grinning.
"Just continue." Ron groaned, dropping his head to the table. He almost wanted to bang his head against it a few times.
Remus jumped in shocked when the door opened behind him. He turned around and expected to see a teacher there to scold him, but to his surprise no one was there. Shrugging, Remus turned back around to the house elves.
One of the house elves came up to him. "May Binky be of service to you, sir?"
"Uh….is this the kitchen?" Remus asked.
"It is sir. You are the first student we've met in a long time. Usually only the teachers come down here, sir. Can Binky get you anything?" Binky asked.
"Why do the house elves always talk in third person, anyways?"
"Fred doesn't know."
"Neither does George."
Oh great… the twins had better not start this! People would never know if they were talking about each other or about themselves!
Remus jumped in surprise again when he felt something on his shoulder. He turned to see James smirking at him. "You're jumpy tonight, Remy."
"Please, Remus is always jumpy." James grinned as Remus glared at him.
"I am not." He grumbled.
"Are too~"
"Are not."
"Are too."
"Are not."
"Are too."
"Are no-DAH!" Remus jumped in his seat as Sirius wrapped his arms around Remus's waist and hugged him, nuzzling his back playfully. "S-Sirius?! What the hell?!"
Sirius smirked. "Are too."
Remus grumbled something in response, shoving Sirius away by his face. "Shut up and read."
"I can't shut up and read, Remus!" Sirius grinned. "I'd have to do one or the other!"
"Shut up," Remus supplied. "Then read."
"You make no sense." Sirius grumbled.
"You've learned to live with it."
"Did he really have much of a choice there?" Josh asked with a grin. "Considering you shared a dorm for seven years, it doesn't seem like there was a choice."
"Which is why it was so much fun driving him crazy." Remus replied with a smirk.
"I thought it would have be James and Sirius driving you crazy. I mean, that is what it seems like is happening." Hilary, a fourth year Ravenclaw, teased.
Remus's brow twitched. "Give it time. It will turn around. Just give it time."
"Were you following me?" Remus growled.
"Yeah." James replied.
"You could have said it was you. I thought it was a teacher who chased me down here." Remus snapped.
James held his hands up defensively. "Sorry. But hey, it was a good thing I didn't. We wouldn't have found the kitchen if I told you it was me."
Remus smiled. "I guess." He turned back to Binky. "Do you have any chocolate?"
A lot of people laughed at that.
"Chocoholic." Sirius muttered, shaking his head.
"Oi," Remus frowned. "I am not."
"You are so a chocoholic." James scoffed. "You ate as much chocolate during Hogwarts as a normal person would eat in a lifetime."
"I did not eat that much." Remus scowled. "You're being overdramatic."
"Yes sir." Binky replied. "Would you like Binky to get you some, sir?"
Remus nodded his head viciously.
James rolled his eyes. "What is with you and chocolate?"
"What do you mean?" Remus asked.
"I've seen the way you are when you have chocolate. You're obsessed with it." James replied.
"It's a healthy obsession!" Remus protested.
"So you admit it's an obsession?" Sirius grinned.
"..." Remus blinked before screaming, "I ADMIT NOTHING!" making several innocent first years jump at his sudden shout.
James uncovered his ears with his hands, smirking. "I feel like we've had this conversation before."
Harry raised a brow with a smirk. "Have you?"
Remus blushed while James cackled evilly.
"I think that is a yes." Charlie said, grinning widely. "You fell for that before and haven't learned your lesson, Remus?"
Remus glared at him with a small scowl. More like a pout actually...
Remus glared at him. "I like chocolate. What's wrong with that?"
James shook his head. "You're a chocoholic."
Remus grumbled something incoherent under his breath. He wasn't a chocoholic, he just liked chocolate! …..a lot...
"There's nothing wrong with chocolate!" A first-year Slytherin protested, and received several glares from her fellow housemates. She shrunk back a little at the glares; did she say something wrong?
Binky returned and gave Remus some chocolate. He turned to James and asked him if he wanted anything.
After getting enough food for the four friends, Remus and James left the kitchen under the invisibility cloak. They entered their dorm and pulled the cloak off, dumping all their sweets on James's bed.
Sirius and Peter looked at the food with wide eyes. "Where did you guys get the food?"
"Well, you see, I scared Remus into finding the kitchen." James replied with a smirk.
"You didn't scare me." Remus muttered. "You only surprised me."
"Nah, I scared you." James said teasingly.
Remus shot the taller man a glare. "Don't put words in my mouth."
Sirius suddenly got a glint in his eye as he pulled out his wand. He quickly transfigured a fork into a quill and wrote 'words' on a napkin. "Here!" he exclaimed, picking the napkin up and shoving it in Remus's mouth.
Remus's eyes widened in shock as the napkin was shoved in his mouth and he was thrown into a harsh coughing fit, before finally getting the smarts to take the napkin out. "D-damn it, Sirius!" He shouted. "What the hell was that for?!"
"You said not to put words in your mouth, so I did." Sirius said innocently.
Remus stared at him like he was an idiot. "...Sirius," He said slowly. "You put a napkin in my mouth."
"Look on the napkin."
Remus raised an eyebrow, before looking at the slightly damp napkin, reading 'words' written on it. "...ha. Ha." He said dryly. "Hilarious."
"I'm glad you think so!"
"Just read, you idiot."
"How did you do that?" Peter asked, as he grabbed a mini cake that James brought back.
James explained what happened as the four friends sat on the floor between their beds, eating all the food they brought back. Peter and Sirius laughed when James's finished while Remus blushed.
"This is great. It will help us with our Halloween prank." Sirius said.
"What is your Halloween prank anyways?" George questioned.
"That's for us to know," Sirius smirked. "And for you to know that we know."
Remus rolled his eyes. "Gosh, why do you keep interrupting your reading?" He grumbled.
"Hey, Weasley number four and half asked me a question!" Sirius said innocently. "How could I not respond?"
"Weasley number four and half?" George echoed in confusion.
"Yep!" Sirius said, grinning widely. He pointed at Bill, whose lips twitched upwards. "He's Weasley number one," then he pointed at Charlie, who grinned broadly. "Weasley number two." Sirius then jabbed his thumb at Percy, who blinked. "Weasley number three." Next he pointed at Fred and George. "Weasley number four and Weasley number four and a half." Lastly, he pointed at Ron and Ginny. "And let's not forget Weasley number five and six!"
By the time Sirius finished talking, nearly all the students were laughing as hard as they could, amused by his strange ways of thinking.
"...wait, why am I number four and half?" George suddenly realized. "Why is Fred number four?"
"Because I'm older!" Fred teased.
George crossed his arms. "Only by a few hours!"
"The most painful hours of my life." Molly muttered. "Even Bill wasn't that hard, and he was my first!"
A bright red blush appeared on Bill's face as Charlie snickered. "M-Mom!" He protested. "Please don't talk about this!"
"Why should you care?" Molly huffed. "You don't even remember it!"
Bill shuddered, just thinking about it. "And I'm so glad I don't..."
"How in Merlin did we go from Halloween pranks to Bill's birth?" Remus muttered.
"I blame Sirius." James said immediately.
"OI!" Sirius protested. "How is this my fault?!"
"Oh, Sirius." Tonks sighed. "Haven't you learned yet? It's always your fault."
Sirius pouted at that. "You all hate me."
"Took you long enough to realize!" Remus smirked.
"Bastards." Sirius muttered. "You're all bastards."
"Sirius!" McGonagall growled, glaring at the ex-convict. "Do not swear in front of the younger kids."
Sirius rolled his eyes. He was sure they had heard worse.
James smirked. "And after Gryffindor beats Slytherin tomorrow in Quidditch we can have a party, getting food and drinks from the kitchen."
All the students, except the Slytherins, watched in excitement as Gryffindor scored another goal. The Slytherins booed while everyone else cheered.
"And Gryffindor scores again. The score is now 100 to 70, Gryffindor.
All the Gryffindors cheered at that.
"Take that you slimy gits!" Lee cheered, fist-bumping the air.
Take that you slimy gits!" Ness said.
"JORDAN, STOP CHANNELING THE PAST, IT'S BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH!" Fred and George screamed at their friend, pointing at him.
"Mr. Jordan, are you by any chance related to the great wizard Seer, Allott Jordan?" Trelawney questioned, watching the seventh year behind her glasses.
"Er…. no?" Lee stared at her, along with several other students.
"Ah... .shame, such a shame..." The professor muttered, fixing her glasses. "Wonderful Seer... just wonderful..."
"Well jeez, glad I'm not." Lee breathed, making the Gryffindors around him cover their mouths to stifle their laughs.
"Mr. Jordan!"
Lee automatically looked up at this. "Huh?" he said.
Fred snickered. "Not you, Jordan."
"Yeah, she was talking about the other Jordan, Jordan." George laughed.
Lee blinked in response.
Professor McGonagall yelled.
"Sorry Professor." Ness replied. "What's this? Kaiden is on the move! Has she seen the snitch?"
Kaiden sped to the Gryffindor goal posts and dived to the ground. She reached out in front of her and closed her fist around a little gold ball. She pulled out of her dive just before she hit the ground. She raised her fist in the air.
All the Gryffindors started cheering again, high-fiving and whooping for joy as Sirius read that with pride in his voice.
"AND KAIDEN CATCHES THE SNITCH! GRYFFINDOR WINS 250 TO 70." Ness yelled.
The students all yelled and clapped loudly as the Slytherins booed.
James smirked at his friends. They smirked back and left the pitch to sneak into the kitchen.
"Lupin smirked too?" Neville asked, sounding slightly surprised.
"Jeez, Moony, you've really got them believing your innocent act." Sirius grumbled, earning a cheeky grin from Remus.
"Sirius, I am completely innocent~" Remus smiled over at the dog Animagus.
McGonagall scoffed from the Head Table, shaking her head. "Mr. Lupin, you are anything but innocent."
The werewolf only flashed her an angelic smile in response; he was about as innocent as a child getting caught stealing biscuits.
"Wait, so he isn't innocent?" Erin, a fourth year Ravenclaw, asked surprised.
Dumbledore chuckled. "He had his professors believing him to be a good student for a long while before they started to see through his act."
"Such a shame that was too." Remus said sadly, but still with a smirk in place.
"Hi Binky." Remus greeted when they reached the kitchen.
"Hello sirs." Binky replied.
"Binky, you can call me, Remus and them, Sirius, James, and Peter, okay?" Remus said.
Binky nodded. "Okay, sir Remus. What can Binky do for you?"
"Sir Remus, huh?" Lily giggled. "Just like a knight in shining armor!"
Remus grinned, giving a mock-bow. "Of course, fair maiden!" He exclaimed, pointing a finger to the sky. "I am Sir Remus, your loyal knight!"
"...huh?" Harry questioned, blinking in confusion.
"Something they did in 3rd year." James grumbled. "And I believe we've already been over this..."
"Just how much crazy stuff did you guys get up to?" Harry asked.
Lily sighed. "Too much for you to understand how much they annoyed me."
"Hey!" Remus said offended.
"Remus, you know I love you, but you had your moments where I wanted to hex you." Lily said, making the students laugh while Remus looked affronted.
Remus sighed. "I guess that's better. Can you get us some food and butterbeer?"
"How much, sir Remus?" Binky asked.
Remus turned to his friends with a raised brow.
Sirius shrugged. "A lot."
"That's specific." Tonks said dryly.
"We needed a lot though!" Sirius defended.
"Yeah, have you seen the amount of food these idiots eat?" Remus butted in, jabbing a thumb at Sirius and James. "More at Hogwarts than a normal person would eat in a lifetime!"
James scowled. "Oh, now you're just copying me!" He accused.
Remus placed a hand on his chest, flashing him an innocent smile - something that he still managed to perfect. "I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, Jamesie~" He cooed.
After getting enough food for the party, the four friends went back to the tower where the team was celebrating with all the other Gryffindors. The team looked at The Marauders shocked when they saw the food the four were carrying.
"Where did you four get all that food?" Shawn asked, shocked. "And where did you get the butterbeer? We only get butterbeer in Hogsmeade or at the beginning of school, end of school, Halloween, and the Christmas feast."
"The kitchen!" James announced.
Shawn choked on the butterbeer he was drinking. He coughed for a few minutes before standing up straight. "The kitchen? How did you find it?"
"That was Oliver's reaction when we told him," Fred snickered.
"It's amazing how similar they are!" George exclaimed dramatically.
"It does seem that our friends are channeling their parents of the past." Ginny said amused.
James turned to Remus and smirked.
"Shut up, Potter." Remus growled, before turning to Shawn. "And we're not telling you. If you want to know where the kitchen is, you have to find it on your own like we did."
"Evil." Ron muttered.
"What?" Remus said innocently. "It's only fair."
James sighed. "It was, but it seems we've given the students of this time a hint of where it is and how to get into it. So tragic. They have it easy."
Angel laughed. "Evil. I guess if we ever want to have a party, we have to come to you four."
"As long as we're invited to said party, we will get you the food." Sirius replied.
Bilius nodded his head with a smile. "Of course."
"Now let's get this party under way!" Remus declared.
"You're being social now!" Bill said, sounding shocked.
"Great, even you're against me." Remus sighed.
"YEAH! Remy is being social now!" Sirius cheered, hugging Remus, who pushed him off.
Remus grumbled something and whacked the back of Sirius's head. "Don't call me that!"
"It was in first year!" Sirius protested. "Stop hitting me for what's in the past!"
Remus stuck his tongue out in response, as many students stared at them. Who knew their old professor could be so... childish...
"Don't do that." Remus growled.
Sirius pouted. "Jaaaames, Remy is being mean."
Remus smacked Sirius again, as Sirius clutched his head, hissing in pain.
"Damn it, Remus." he grumbled.
James grumbled to himself. "Remy, don't do that. I don't want to deal with a whiny Sirius."
Remus gave James the evil eye, causing James to hold his hands up nervously. However, Remus only twitched, not hitting him.
"Hey, how come you didn't hit James?" Sirius complained.
Remus raised an eyebrow. "I have different revenge planned for him..."
James's eyes widened as he glanced at Lily and mouthed a panicked 'save me' to her, only for the redhead to giggle.
"So, how exactly did you get your professors to believe you were innocent?" A seventh year Gryffindor called Ave asked as he raised a brow.
"That is for me to know." Remus replied. "And for all of you to hopefully not find out."
Remus rolled his eyes. "As long as you're the one he's bothering, I don't care."
"AH! Remy is soooo mean!" James declared.
Remus twitched again, but didn't hit anybody.
"It's a miracle." Sirius said, awed. "He didn't hit anyone."
Remus glared at Sirius, raising a hand to hit him.
"I take it back!" Sirius said quickly, and Remus dropped his hand.
"What do we do about this, Jamesie?" Sirius asked.
James thought for a few minutes, which Remus used this time to move to a couch and plopped down on it.
"Don't hurt yourself, dear." Lily said, smiling.
James pouted. "Great, first Remus has revenge planned against me, now my own wife is against me." he grumbled to himself.
Sirius watched Remus leave. "Why must Remy be so mean to us? We're his friends. We don't deserve this treatment." He said dramatically.
Remus went to smack Sirius, but Sirius was smart enough to duck, causing Remus's hand to hit Tonks instead. Remus's eyes widened in horror as Tonks blinked in surprise and shock.
"I-I'm sorry, Tonks!" He blurted out. "I was trying to hit Sirius but he ducked and I couldn't stop in time then I accidentally hit and Merlin, are you alright?"
Tonks blinked again, rubbing the side of her head where Remus accidentally hit her. "Yeah..." she then snorted. "Gosh, Remus, you need to work on your smacks." She scoffed. "They're wimpy."
"Wimpy?" Remus said quietly, still horrified at what he did.
"Yep," Tonks nodded. "Wimpy. Sirius, I can't believe you thought they hurt!"
"They do hurt!" Sirius complained.
"Wimp." Tonks muttered.
"Oi!" Sirius exclaimed, affronted. "I am not wimpy!"
"No matter how many times you say it, it's not gonna be true." Tonks sang, smirking.
James rolled his eyes before smirking. "What do you say to teaching him a lesson?"
"And what kind of lesson will Professor Moony be taught?" Fred smirked.
"A very good lesson." James grinned, smirking at the Marauder next to him.
Remus's hand twitched and glared darkly at James, who only chuckled in response. "Strike one." he hissed.
"Huh?" James blinked.
"You'll see."
Sirius smirked and nodded his head.
"Oh Remy!" Sirius sang cheerfully, looking down at Remus.
Remus twitched and slapped the back of Sirius's head, making sure he didn't duck again.
"I should've ducked again." Sirius pouted, rubbing the back of his head.
Remus gave him the evil eye. "If you ducked, I would've just hit you harder next time." he threatened.
"Or maybe I should just suck it up." Sirius squeaked out.
Remus tilted his head back to look at his friend. "Yes?"
"We were thinking that you were being really mean earlier about not thinking about our feelings." James explained, smirking. "We just think you should know that you shouldn't be mean to us. I mean we are pranksters. Do you think it's a good idea to be mean to us?"
Remus snorted. "What are you going to do about me being "mean"?"
"Nothing out of the ordinary." James grinned cheekily at Remus, who crossed his arms and glared back.
"Shut up." He grumbled.
"Okay, now I'm really interested in what you guys do to Lupin." George grinned. "What happened?"
James smirked, causing Remus's glare to deepen. "Would you like a demonstration?" He said casually.
Remus's eyes widened and he subconsciously wrapped his arms around his stomach. "Don't. You. Dare." He hissed.
"Don't I dare do what?" James asked innocently.
"You know what I'm talking about!"
"No, I'm sorry to say," James smirked. "I don't. Would you perhaps, like to tell me what you're talking about?"
"..." Remus glared at James.
James's smirk widened, tapping his fingers on the table. "Sirius, how about you continue reading?" He grinned. "I bet the students want to hear about Remus's punishment for being mean."
Sirius grinned in response and before Remus could protest, the ebony continued reading.
"Strike two." Remus growled to himself.
James didn't reply. Instead he attacked Remus's ribcage and started tickling him, making Remus cry out in laughter. Remus hit James's hands away and fell to the floor laughing.
"Ah," Fred snickered. "So that's your punishment,"
Remus's eye twitched.
"Siri, I think Remus is going mad." James stage-whispered, grinning.
Remus suddenly slammed his hands on the table, standing up. "That's it!" He glared at James, who paled, his grin quickly fading. "Revenge." He hissed.
James quickly scooted away from Remus, holding his hands up as if to protect himself. "N-now, Remus, don't do anything rash." He said nervously. "It's all in the past, Remy, don't do anything you'll regret."
"Strike three." Remus growled. "Don't call me Remy."
James gave a nervous laugh, shooting Sirius a helpless look. "Sirius?" He pleaded. "Any help?"
Sirius grinned, shoulders shaking in silent laughter. "Nah, you're on your own with this one."
"Hey, Lily," Remus said casually, still glaring at James. "Do me a favor."
Lily raised an eyebrow. "What kind of favor?"
"Pin his arms behind his back."
James paled more and he quickly tried to move away from Lily, only to be too slow. Lily had quickly grabbed his arms and pinned them behind his back, making it nearly impossible for him to escape, unless he pulled Lily off the bench, which he would never do unless he wanted to get killed.
"C-c'mon, Remy." James pleaded. "D-don't hurt me..."
Remus raised an eyebrow, cracking his knuckles. James's eyes widened and he struggled slightly, only for Lily to tighten her grip on his arms. "Who said anything about hurting you?" He smirked.
Fred snickered. "I think the whole cracking knuckles thing does scare people."
"...t-then what are you going to do to me?" James said fearfully.
"The same thing you did to me, of course." Remus said casually.
"H-huh?" James frowned, confused. "What do you me-EEP!" James let out a high-pitched squeak as Remus suddenly shot his fingers toward and jabbed James in the sides.
"Oh, I think you have a pretty good idea what I mean." Remus smirked.
Before James could respond, Remus jabbed his fingers into his ribs, causing him to burst out laughing, struggling against Lily's grip. "REHEHEHEMUS!" He shouted through his laughter. "S-STOP!"
Remus smirked, mercilessly tickling James nonstop, ignoring his laughs and protests. "Jeez, James, I didn't think you were still ticklish after all this time." He teased, poking James in the side.
James let out a squeak. "Lihihihike you?" He choked out.
Remus narrowed his eyes at that. "Oh, now you're going to get it."
James's eyes widened more. "W-wait!" He protested, only to be ignored.
For the next few minutes, the stag was mercilessly tickled, before Remus finally relented, pulling his hands away from his sides. He grabbed the collar of James's shirt and pulled him close. "Now what have we learned, Prongs?" He asked sweetly.
"Ghn..." James groaned, pushing at Remus's hands. "Don't tickle the werewolf..."
"Brilliant." Remus smirked and let go of James, moving back to his seat. He raised an eyebrow at Sirius, who was snickering, and crossed his arms. "Well? Continue reading."
Sirius managed to keep his laughs down and picked the book back up, flipping through it to find the right page. Most of the hall were snickering quietly to themselves or just staring at the ex-Professor in shock. What just... happened...?
Moody just shook his head. The Great James Potter defeated by tickling. How sad.
"What was that for?" Remus asked, breathing heavily.
Sirius smirked and pinned Remus arms above his head and straddled him. He started tickling him mercilessly with his free hand. Remus laughed loudly and started kicking his legs trying to get Sirius off of him.
"SI- AH-RIUS! S-STOP PL-HAHAHAH-PLEASE!" Remus screamed through his laughter.
"Not. One. Word." Remus hissed, seeing Sirius opened his mouth to say something.
Sirius pouted, but didn't say anything.
Sirius stopped and looked at James, who was sitting next to him. "What do you think, James? Has he learned his lesson?"
James pretended to think hard. "I don't think he has."
"Yes, I have!" Remus said frantically. He looked at Sirius pleadingly. "Please, let me go!"
"It's amazing how quickly you can get him to agree." Tonks laughed.
Remus shot her a moody look, pouting and grumbling something about idiot Purebloods.
"Not a Pureblood~" Tonks reminded with a grin.
"I mostly talking about these idiots." Remus waved a hand at Sirius and James. "I know you're not a Pureblood."
"OI!" The two 'idiots' shouted in annoyance.
Sirius shook his head, grinning. "Naw."
James joined in on the attack against Remus. They started tickling Remus again.
"AH! GYAAAAH! S-STOP S-SI-RI, J-JAMES!" Remus yelled.
Shawn and Angel watched the three, shaking their heads. Ness rolled his eyes and Bilius smiled. "Do you think we should help him?" Angel asked.
"It doesn't concern us. If they want to tickle him to death then we should let them. It doesn't involve us." Bilius replied.
"Let's get back to the party." Shawn said.
"They care so much." Remus grumbled, crossing his arms.
At the Slytherin table, Draco scoffed under his breath. He didn't want to hear about all this happy stuff… how dare they act so carefree and innocent. Wasn't this around the time Voldemort appeared? Wasn't there a war going on?
"C-COME….HAHAHAH….O-N! P-PLEASE….GYAAAAH…..S-STOP!" Remus begged. "P-PETE! HAHAHAH! H-HELP….M-ME!"
Peter shook his head laughing and sat on the couch that Remus fell off of.
James and Sirius continued their mercilessly attack on Remus for about ten minutes before Angel came back over to them. "Okay, you two stop trying to tickle Remus to death."
"Your savior!" Lily exclaimed, smiling.
Remus pouted. "Not really..."
The two pouted, but complied and let Remus go. "Thanks Angel."
"I only helped you because there's an owl here for you." Angel replied, pointing to a black owl with white tips on its wings and red eyes on the coffee table.
"I say Darkwing was my savior." Remus muttered. "Or better yet, my dad for sending that letter..."
James and Sirius both exchanged grins, remembering exactly what was in that letter.
Remus pouted at Angel. "You didn't help me because you felt sorry for me?"
Angel smiled and shook her head.
"Meanie." Remus replied.
"Ooh~" Tonks gasped. "Remus called Angel a meanie!"
Remus rolled his eyes as the people who heard laughed or smiled.
Angel smiled. "Yep, I'm a meanie. Going to take your letter? It has to be important if it is coming at this time."
Remus looked at the owl and smiled. "Hi Darkwing!"
Darkwing hooted in greeted and held her leg out. Remus took the letter from her and petted her. "Thanks Darkwing."
"She sounds like a nice owl." Harry said, smiling, wishing that Hedwig was here.
"She was." Remus smiled softly. She was always there for… even if she was just an owl… Harry could relate to that. Hedwig was his first friend, just like Darkwing was for Remus.
James and Sirius looked over Remus's shoulders. "Who is it from? Your mom is okay, right?"
Remus looked back at his friends confused. "My mom? Oh, she's fine now. I got a letter a couple weeks ago from my dad. He told me she was better."
"That's good." Sirius replied.
James and Sirius frowned a little at that as Remus shifted slightly, uncomfortable. They still couldn't believe that they fell for Remus's lies so easily. It made them feel guilty that they couldn't help him sooner than their second year. The happier mood from before was slowly dissolving.
Remus nodded his head and opened his letter.
Dear Remus,
I got your letter about constantly being caught passing notes in class with your friends by teachers. I thought of a way you could pass notes without a teacher knowing. You have to keep this a secret from your mother though.
"This should be good." Lee grinned.
We will both be in trouble if she finds out. Inside this envelope are four blank pieces of parchment. I cast the protean charm on each piece of parchment. If one of you writes on the parchment whatever you wrote will appear on the other pieces of parchment. The writing will disappear after a while so you will be able to use the parchment to talk to your friends over and over again. I hope this helps you.
Love Dad.
"That's awesome!" Fred exclaimed, wide-eyed.
"What spell was it?" George said excitedly.
Before Sirius or James could respond, Remus smirked, "Figure it out yourself." He grinned.
The twins and Lee pouted at this.
McGonagall's eyes narrowed. So all those times she thought they were taking notes, they were actually sending each other messages? She sighed. Then again, she shouldn't expect anything less from the Marauders. "So that is how you boys passed notes to each other in class."
"You mean you never caught them?" Hermione asked with a frown.
McGonagall sighed. "I always knew they were passing notes somehow, but I was never able to figure out how since I never saw the notes exchanging hands."
"Which basically means we beat her in that battle." Sirius said with a smirk.
McGonagall raised a brow. "Oh? So all these years are a war now, are they, Sirius?"
"They always were." James said with a grin.
Remus looked at his friends, who were grinning.
"Your dad is awesome." Sirius whispered, accepting the parchment that Remus handed him.
"This will definitely come in handy in class." James said, taking the parchment from Remus.
McGonagall frowned, shaking her head. She should have known that the Marauders weren't actually taking notes.. Although, it would explain why Remus always had more papers than needed out...
Peter nodded his head in agreement and accepted his parchment as well.
"Don't lose those. It will be bad if you lost them." Remus explained.
"Yes sir!" James and Sirius mocked saluted.
"You should do that more often." Remus grinned.
James and Sirius blinked, before snorting. "Yeah, right."
"I'm being serious."
"You can't be Sirius, I am!" Sirius grinned.
Remus shot him a deadpanned look. "That is so old."
Sirius pouted.
Next Friday, Remus groaned in his bed and rubbed his aching head. The full moon was the next day and his body was feeling the effects of it.
Again, Sirius and James both frowned, shooting slightly concerned looks at Remus, who rolled his eyes, fingering the pendant around his neck again.
He felt lucky that the full moon was on a weekend of this month. He wouldn't be missing any classes this month so his classmates wouldn't notice anything. His friends would though and that is what worried him.
"You were worried that we would worry where you were?" Sirius demanded, frowning.
"N-no, it wasn't like that!" Remus protested. "I...I just didn't...want you...to...find out..." he trailed off awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
Remus crawled out of his bed and got dressed. He checked to make his friends were still sleeping before sneaking out of the dorm. It was six in the morning and no one was allowed out of their towers until seven thirty. That didn't bother Remus right now. All he cared about was getting to the Hospital Wing.
"What do you think you're doing out of bed?" An angry voice said.
"Lemme guess," James said dryly. "Filch."
"Bingo." Remus said, rolling his eyes. The caretaker annoyed him too much.
The young werewolf looked up to see Filch glaring at him. "Going to the Hospital Wing. I'm sick." He growled and stalked pass Filch without another word. He didn't feel well with the full moon tomorrow and didn't want to deal with Filch.
Whatever Filch said in reply to what Remus said, the young wizard didn't hear. He was too far away by the time Filch started talking again.
"Fwew, that's good!" Sirius said, wiping away fake sweat from his forehead. "You might've bitten his head off if he said anything else!"
Remus shot Sirius a deadpanned look. "Shut up."
"Aw, but Remy-!"
"No, be quiet."
"Fine..."
It was silent for a moment before Remus glared at Sirius. "Sirius, why aren't you continuing?" he demanded.
"You told me to be quiet!" Sirius protested.
"Read."
"But-"
"No, read."
Sirius pouted, shooting Remus a grumpy look. "Fine..."
Remus stumbled into the Hospital Wing a few minutes later, breathing heavily. His strength was sapped from walking away from Filch as fast as he did. He leaned against the Hospital Wing door for a few minutes to get his breath back. He rubbed his head in pain.
"You could've asked us to help." James muttered.
Remus stared at him dryly. "...are you really as stupid as you look?"
"Hey!" James whined.
"I couldn't have told you without you being suspicious." Remus continued as if James hadn't spoken. "And do you really think I needed you being suspicious in my first year? No, I had enough worries that year..." he muttered that last part quietly, frowning slightly.
Blinking his blurry eyes, Remus stumbled over to a bed and laid on it. He curled into a ball and waited for Madam Pomfrey to wake up and come into the Hospital Wing.
Madam Pomfrey entered the Hospital Wing and saw Remus curled up on a bed. She hurried over to him and put a cool hand to Remus's forehead. "Are you okay, dear?" Madam Pomfrey asked, worriedly.
Remus muttered something under his breath about 'too many bloody overprotective people'.
"Tomorrow is full moon. I always feel horrible the day before. I wanted to know if you had something you could give me to help me before the full moon so my friends don't worry or suspect something cause I'm always sick on the day of the full moon." Remus explained, grimacing in pain from his headache. Talking made his head hurt more.
Madam Pomfrey tutted, shaking her head. That boy should've come sooner, maybe even the day before that. She might've been able help him more.
Madam Pomfrey nodded her head and left for a few minutes to check to see if she had anything. She came back about fifteen minutes later with a box and put it on the table next to the bed. "Here is a box of minor infirmus potions.
"They should have major infirmus potions." Remus muttered, mostly to himself. If the minor infirmus potions only helped him slightly, then a major infirmus potion should help him more.
The potion will lessen your symptoms around the full moon. Now this means that your headaches, weakness, and feeling sick won't be as bad. You'll still have them, but drinking this potion should make them less noticeable."
Remus looked in the box to see twenty vials in the box. "Will this potion make me less queasy? My friends were worried because I wasn't eating last month and they forced me to eat lunch."
"...I'm not sure if we should feel guilty about that or not." James mused.
"Feel guilty." Remus grumbled.
"It will. It should bring your appetite back. Now, I'll allow you to take this box back to your dorm, but you have to keep it hidden. You can't let your friends find it or they'll ask questions. I'll ask Professor Slughorn to make you more of this potion at the beginning of each school year." Madam Pomfrey explained.
James and Sirius frowned. They really shouldn't be surprised, but still, it was hard to believe that the professors encouraged Remus to make sure they didn't find out about his lycanthropy. If they scorned him, or hated him for it, then they wouldn't be true friends...
Remus nodded his head. "Thanks Madam Pomfrey."
The nurse smiled. "It's no problem, dearie. Now for this potion, you take one potion the day before the full moon and one of the day of the full moon. Your symptoms will lessen and your friends shouldn't notice. You should keep them locked up somewhere in your dorm."
"I'll lock them in my trunk with the rest of my stuff." Remus replied.
"Yeah," Sirius scoffed. "In your trunk? More like under your trunk."
"Huh?" Harry blinked, looking confused. "How do you hide something under your trunk?"
"You know Harry," Ron said dryly. "There's this thing called magic."
"Oh, shut up." Harry grinned, rolling his eyes.
"And idiot." The werewolf whacked the back of Sirius's head. "I didn't do that this year."
"Ow!" Sirius complained with a pout, shooting Remus a small glare. "Meanie."
"Yes, I'm a meanie, now continue reading."
He took one of the vials out of the box and drank it. His face screwed up into a scowl and squished his nose in distaste. He gagged at the taste of the potion. It tasted like chocolate, lemons, and wax mixed together with a rotten garlic pickle aftertaste.
"Wow," Remus muttered. "Pretty accurate, minus the chocolate part."
"It really tasted that gross?" Tonks asked, wrinkling her nose. "That's nasty."
Remus snorted. "You have no idea."
"I know it doesn't taste great. Actually it tastes horrible, but if you want to keep your secret, you'll have to take it. If that's all you need, you should get back to your dorm. You'll want to hide the box before your friends wake up." Madam Pomfrey said with a kind smile.
Remus stared up at the floating candles with a faint smile. Madam Pomfrey was always there for him during his Hogwarts years, and looking back (or reading back) on it really helped him remember that. She really was a great mother figure for him when he was younger.
"Thanks Madam Pomfrey." Remus replied. He grabbed the box and left the Hospital Wing with a smile. He felt much better than he did before. His migraine was reduced to a minor headache and he didn't feel as weak as he did on his way to the Hospital Wing. He could walk without stumbling now. His queasy stomach was still there, but he thinks he could a little now, so his friends wouldn't worry.
"We're your friends," James scoffed.
"It's our job to worry." Sirius grinned.
"There's a fine line between worrying and being overprotective." Remus said, rolling his eyes.
Remus was happy that he didn't run into any teachers or prefects on his way back to Gryffindor Tower. He really didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment. He was feeling better and was in a good mood, but he was still tired and wasn't in a talking kind of mood.
Sneaking into the Common Room, Remus looked around to make sure no one was in there to see him. When he saw it was empty, Remus climbed the steps to his dorm quietly and slipped in. The curtains around his friends' beds and his were still closed. He had closed his curtains in case his friends woke up. They would think he was still sleeping if his curtains were closed.
"...I take it that they found out you left?" Bill grinned.
Remus blinked. "How'd you know?"
"Well the book kept mentioning how they would still be asleep and that you tried to hide that you weren't there." Bill shrugged. "Call it foreshadowing."
"Great, now my life is a book." Remus said dryly.
Remus tiptoed to his trunk at the end of his bed and put the box at the bottom of the chest. He buried the box with some other stuff in the trunk. After locking the trunk with a locking spell, Remus kicked his shoes off and decided to climb back into bed and rest until his friends woke up. Pulling the curtains back on his bed, Remus jumped back in surprise and fell to the ground with a thump when he saw three boys sitting on his bed.
"Called it." Bill said, grinning widely.
"No one protested." Charlie muttered.
"I'm sure someone did." Bill snorted, ruffling his younger brother's hair. "You just didn't hear them."
"What's up guys?" Remus asked, uneasily. He looked at the ground nervously.
Sirius stood up and crossed his arms. "Where were you?"
"What do you mean?" Remus questioned.
James stood next to Sirius. "You know what we mean. We woke up and were going to wake you up when we found your bed empty."
"Wait, I never asked," Remus frowned. "Why would you want to wake me up anyways?"
James and Sirius both blinked, not knowing what to say to that. "..."
"...you wouldn't have had a reason, would you?" Remus said dryly.
"We were worried when we found your bed empty. We thought something may have happened that you had to go back home again." Peter said, still sitting on the bed. He looked the calmest of the boys, but was frowning and looked worried.
Sirius held back a growl. That little bastard didn't care about them. He was just a lying rat who wanted to be known. And he got his damn wish. He's known as a hero.
Remus stood up and dusted himself off. He tried to come up with an excuse, but with James and Sirius standing there looking at him angrily, he decided he should just tell the truth, well partial truth. "I woke up and wasn't feeling well. So I went to the Hospital Wing."
"Well at least you weren't lying." James muttered.
"He was half lying." Sirius pointed out.
"And half telling the truth." Remus said, glaring at Sirius.
"And why didn't you ask one of us to go with you? You could have fainted on the way there." James demanded. His anger lessened a little, but he still looked mad and a little concerned.
The young werewolf resisted the urge to roll his eyes. James always acted like a mother hen to him.
"I do not!" James protested, pouting.
Remus scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Uh, yeah you do." He groaned. "And it's bloody annoying."
"I don't mother hen." James pouted. "I worry."
"Same thing." Remus grumbled. He shot a look at Lily, who was giggling. "What do you think, Lily?"
Lily smiled. "James can get a bit like a mother hen."
"Lily!" James cried.
"What? You think I never noticed anything that happened at Hogwarts?" Lily asked amused.
He always thought he had to know where Remus was every moment and liked to have someone with him. Remus supposed it was because he always looked pale and weak and needed someone to protect him.
"I think I can make it to the Hospital Wing by myself." Remus replied.
Sirius frowned. "Remy, we just want to make sure you're alright. It would have been really bad if you fainted on your way to the Hospital Wing."
Remus twitched and smacked the back of Sirius's head. "Don't call me Remy." he hissed. "And I don't faint."
"Oh yeah?" Sirius challenged, rubbing the back of his neck. "What about that one time-OW!" He shouted in pain, slightly surprised when Remus grabbed the book from his hands and whacked him with it.
"Shut up." Remus growled, giving the book back and looking up at the floating candles like nothing happened.
Remus sighed and rubbed his eyes. "Look guys, it's fine. I was just feeling a little under the weather. It was nothing too bad that I needed an escort to the Hospital Wing."
"Can you feel over the weather?" Seamus asked randomly, and everyone looked at him blankly. "I mean, you can feel under the weather, so why not over the weather?"
"...Seamus." Dean deadpanned. "You're an idiot."
Sirius shrugged his shoulders. "Fine. Just promise us something."
"What?"
"The next time you aren't feeling well and want to go to the Hospital Wing, tell one of us." Sirius said.
Remus rolled his eyes. "Fine. I'll tell someone next time."
"I forget if you kept that promise or not." James muttered, then faced Remus. "Did you?"
"...I'm not even going to bother to answer that."
"Does that mean the answer is no then?" Susan asked amused.
Remus shrugged. He actually wasn't sure himself if he kept that promise.
"Good." James said, smiling.
"Let's go get breakfast now." Sirius added, also smiling.
The next day, Remus was woken up by Sirius jumping onto him. "REMY! TIME TO GET!"
Remus growled at that, shooting a loathing look at Sirius, who gave a nervous laugh and pulled at the collar of his shirt.
Remus growled and pushed Sirius off of him and onto the floor. He felt the effects of the full moon come back full force. The minor infirmus had worn off after twenty-four hours and he needed another dose of the potion to survive until that night.
"You could've just told me you weren't feeling well." Sirius frowned. "I would've backed off."
"But then you would tell James and you both would be mother-henning me." Remus grumbled, crossing his arms.
"...no denying that." Sirius said sheepishly.
"Why are you waking me up early on a Saturday?" Remus snapped, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
"Gryffindor has the pitch booked for today." Sirius answered, ignoring Remus's tone. "We haven't been to one of their practices in a while."
"Yes!" Fred grinned, fist-bumping his twin. "More Quidditch!"
"Do we get to hear more about my dad?" Lee said, excited.
"And Oliver's dad?" George added.
The 3 Marauders shrugged. They weren't sure what would be in these books either.
Remus looked at Sirius with narrowed eyes, then at his trunks, then at the bedroom door. He climbed out of bed and grabbed the back of Sirius's blue jacket. He was wearing normal clothes today since it was the weekend. He grabbed his wand off the nightstand and dragged Sirius to the bedroom door. He threw Sirius down the stairs before slamming the door shut and locking the door with a simple locking simple.
Everyone blinked, before snorting. It sounded so simple when put like that.
Sirius tumbled down the stairs and landed at the bottom of them abashed. James looked up from talking with Shawn about Quidditch, shocked to see Sirius laying on his stomach with his arms stuck under stomach and legs halfway curled up.
"This was more painful than it sounds." Sirius grumbled, glaring at Remus, who only gave a cheeky grin in response, as the students burst out laughing as they pictured that in their heads.
"How did you guys not kill each other when you were students?" Hermione asked shocked.
Sirius snorted. "I'm still convinced that Remus and James were attempting each other's murders that one time in third year."
James raised a brow. "Which incident was this one?"
"It was around the beginning of our third year before the first Quidditch match." Sirius replied.
James blinked before he glared at his friend. "I told you! We weren't trying to kill each other."
"Why does he think you were trying to though?" Neville asked.
"We just got a bit hurt in our roughhousing and needed to go to the Hospital Wing. Nothing major though." Remus said with a shrug.
Hermione tsked. Why did boys have to be so stupid and roughhouse like that?
Shawn looked behind himself to see Sirius to. "What happened?"
"Remus." Sirius replied, rolling onto his back and sitting up. He rubbed his back in pain.
"He threw you down the stairs?" James replied, trying to hide his smile.
"You were?!" Sirius exclaimed, glaring at James, held his hands up in defense.
"You didn't notice?" James asked in surprise.
"Obviously not." Sirius growled.
"...sorry?"
"No you're not."
"...you know me so well."
"Yes." Sirius growled, climbing back up the stairs.
Remus ran back to his trunk and unlocked it. He unburied the box he put in it the day before and opened it. Just as he took out the vial, he heard the doorknob jingle. He uncapped the vial and drank it fast, grimacing at the taste. He put the empty vial back in the box and closed his trunk, locking it once again. When he was finished, Remus jumped back in his bed and pulled his curtains shut.
"You could've at least unlocked the door after you drank the potion." Sirius said dryly.
"But then you would've come in and bugged me." Remus retorted.
"Exactly." Bill grinned. "It was a smart move on Remus's part to keep that door tightly shut."
Charlie rolled his eyes. "It's annoying is what it is." He remembered when Bill did that to him at the Burrow. He couldn't do anything since he was underage.
"Finally!" Sirius cried. "Someone who understands my pain!"
"Remus, can you unlock the door?" Sirius asked. A few minutes later, Sirius spoke again. "Remus?"
Sighing, Sirius went back downstairs. "James, can you unlock the door for me?"
James looked up and smirked. "Are you that bad at charms that you can't do a simple unlocking charm?"
Sirius glared at him. "No." He snapped. "My wand is in the room."
"I wouldn't put it past you to lie about that cause you didn't know the spell." James teased.
"OI!" Sirius exclaimed. "I can do that simple charm!"
"Alright, alright." James grinned, holding up his hands in defense. "Just saying..."
"And I'm just saying to shut up." Sirius grumbled.
James smirked. "Right." He stood up and went upstairs. "Alohomora."
The two best mates entered the room and moved over to Remus's bed. James pulled the curtain apart. "Remus, get up."
Remus turned to glare at James. "No."
"You sure you don't want to get up?" James asked.
Remus snorted and turned away. "What are you going to do if I don't get up?"
"You really asked that?" Tonks snorted, shaking her head.
"Eh...yes?" Remus said sheepishly.
James smirked and pointed his wand on Remus. "Aguamenti."
Water sprayed out of James's water and onto Remus. Remus screamed and rolled out of bed and onto James, knocking him to the ground.
Some students started laughing, before the whole Hall was laughing at the ex-professor. Remus twitched and glared at James, who only smiled innocently, ruffling Remus's hair.
"Prat." Remus growled.
James pushed him off of him and smirked. "I had to get you up. Now get dressed."
After much arguing and resisting, Remus, James, and Sirius made it to the Quidditch practice to watch the rest of the Gryffindor's team practice. Instead of seeing the team practice, they found the team standing on the field and arguing with the Slytherin team.
"Oh, this should be good..." Lee sighed.
"Reminds me a little of second year, yeah?" Harry shot Ron a grin. "As long as slugs aren't involved, we should be fine~"
Ron scowled, gagging slightly at the remembrance of the taste. "Ugh, don't remind me, Harry..."
James and Sirius march out onto the field, while Remus laid down on the bleaches and stared at the sky bored. He didn't like that the Slytherin team was here, but he didn't want to go down to the field and argue. It was the day of the full moon and he wasn't in the best of moods. He was irritable and didn't want to take his frustration out on the Slytherins.
"But they're the best people to take it out on!" Charlie snickered.
Remus opened his mouth to say something in response, but was cut off by Bill, "Don't say that." The oldest Weasley son scolded, whacking the back of Charlie's head. "They're people too."
"Yeah, but they're Slytherins." Fred said in defense of his older brother.
Percy glared at Fred. "I'll have you know," He scowled. "That I have worked with many Slytherins in the Ministry, and they are all wonderful people."
"Yeah, but that's coming from you." George growled. "Why the hell would we trust anything you say?"
"It's not like you you gave us any reason to." Fred glared.
"George! Fred!" Mrs. Weasley exclaimed, glaring at the twins, seeming to be close to tears. "Don't say such things!"
"We only speak the truth, Mother." The identical Weasleys responded, glares fixed upon their third oldest brother.
Percy glared right back at them. Merlin, why did he have to sit next to them?
"What's going on?" James asked Angel.
"The Slytherins team is here saying that they booked the pitch today. Something about erasing our name on the list and replacing it with their name." Angel replied, angrily, which surprised James and Sirius since they never really saw her get angry.
"Quidditch and Slytherins combined are enough to get anyone angry." Ron muttered under his breath.
James glared at the Slytherins. "Bloody gits."
"You can't just erase our name and put your name and claim the pitch as yours." Shawn snarled at the Slytherin captain, a seventh year by the name of Steve Laughalot.
"...does...does he laugh a lot?" Tonks grinned widely.
Sirius snickered. "Nah, he's more of a 'smirker', not really a 'laugher'~"
"Seems fate has given him the wrong name." The pink-haired witched clicked her tongue, laughing.
Steven smirked back. "We can and we did. The pitch is ours today."
"No, it isn't. We've taken the pitch for the day." Gon growled.
Remus looked down into the pitch and rolled his eyes. The teams were in each other's faces and arguing over the pitch.
Sitting up, Remus drew his wand out.
"Ooh, this should be good~" Tonks grinned widely. "Remus has got the best pranks!"
"Oi, I'm hurt!" Sirius complained, shooting his second-cousin-twice-removed a glare. "I'd say my pranks are the best!"
Remus snorted, rolling his eyes. "Sirius, we all know that's a lie." He smirked.
"Oh yeah?!" The dog Animagus shouted, slamming the book on the table. "Let's have a prank war then! See who's the best after all!"
Fred and George's eyes lit up at these words. A prank war? Between the Marauders? This was a dream come tru-
"Nah~"
"'Nah'?" Sirius repeated, blinking. He stared at Remus accusingly. "Did you just turn down a prank war? THAT'S AGAINST THE RULES, REMY-!"
Remus scowled and whacked the back of Sirius's head. "There was no such thing in those rules, and don't call me Remy." He retorted.
Sirius pouted unhappily, looking at Remus with the kicked puppy look he pulled so many times at Hogwarts. "C'moooon, pleeeeease?" He whined. "Just look at the twins; their dreams are ruined!"
The werewolf glanced over at the Weasley twins with a raised eyebrow. Fred and George, taking this as their cue, hugged each other and sobbed loudly.
Remus only rolled his eyes in response, picking up the book that Sirius slammed on the table, then continued reading without anything else to say.
He may not like Quidditch, but he didn't want to spend his whole day sitting here, watching the two teams argue. He waved his wand and muttered a few choice words and pointed his wand at Laughalot. Remus waved his wand again and murmured another spell, which hit Laughalot again.
Both teams stopped arguing and looked at Laughalot shocked. Instead of being in his robes, Laughalot was dressed in a strapless dress with long lavender color hair.
"Pffft-" Seamus snorted, holding back laughter , breaking the silence of the Great Hall. Soon enough nearly everyone was laughing and snickering at the image in their heads.
"Fred, write that down!" George grinned widely, pointing at his twin. Fred snorted with an identical grin, doing what George had instructed.
Mrs. Weasley narrowed her eyes suspiciously at her sons. What were they planning this time...
The Slytherin stared wide eyed at their captain, while the Gryffindor team and James and Sirius started laughing their arses off. James and Sirius fell to the ground and started rolling around laughing.
Remus smirked and did another spell, this time pointing it at Laughalot's broomstick. He took control of Laughalot's broomstick and started hitting the Slytherin team with it, chasing them off the pitch.
As Laughalot was running he tripped over the dress he was wearing. He to the ground where the broomstick started to hit him repeatedly. Laughalot stood up and started to stumble out of the pitch with the broomstick chasing after him and hitting him.
Nearly all the students were laughing at this image in their head, though there were some select Slytherins who refused to laugh at their fellow House member.
"And this is why my pranks are the best~" Remus smirked over at Sirius, who only scowled in response.
"I dunno about that, Lupin." James grinned, jabbing his thumb against his chest with a cocky grin. "I'd say I've got the best pranks around here~"
Remus and Sirius both looked over at the older Potter with a deadpanned expression, as if to say 'really'?
"As much as you believe that, it won't ever be true." Remus scoffed. "Everyone knows that I've got the best pranks~"
"Then why don't you prove it with a prank war?!" Sirius cried, slamming his fist on the table. "Then we'll really see who's the best!"
"Which is obviously me." James chimed in.
Remus rolled his eyes. "James, Sirius, we've have tons of prank wars at Hogwarts, and I've always won. So deal with it."
"You guys had prank wars at Hogwarts?!" George exclaimed, wide-eyed.
The three Marauders looked surprised, as if just realizing that other people could hear their conversation. "...well duh." The stag snorted. "We're the Marauders; why wouldn't we?"
"That means we get to hear about it!" Fred shouted, his voice an octave higher. He grabbed George and shook him. "We get to hear about that in the book!"
"Ah, right." Remus smirked. "You get to hear about all my wins and their fails~"
"Ay, you didn't win all of them!" Sirius and James shouted at the same time.
"Mhm, whatever you say." The werewolf snickered, picking the book back up again.
Lily shook her head slightly, smiling. It was nice to see Remus and Sirius smiling again. Back in her original time, they were always frowning and yelling at each other. Times were tense... but now that they were here and safe, and she was with her son... there was definitely something to smile about.
When he felt glares on him, Remus looked up with a raised brow. "What? You do realize that even when you teamed up against me, you were still no match for me." He said with a smirk.
"Seriously?" Fred said excitedly. "I want to hear about this prank war now!"
Remus laughed. "You're going to have to be patient. You'll learn of my wins soon enough."
"He didn't always win." James muttered childishly.
The Gryffindor team laughed as the Slytherins ran away with the broomstick chasing them. As soon as they were gone, Remus put his wand away and laid back down.
Shawn wiped tears out of his eyes and stood up. "James, Sirius, which one of you did that? It was hilarious."
James and Sirius calmed their laughter and sat up. "Neither of us. We were too busy laughing to do the spells and we didn't have our wands out."
"Then who….?" Angel trailed off confused.
As one, James and Sirius grinned and turned to look at the bleaches. "REMUS!"
Remus sat up and looked at his friends. "Yeah?"
Tonks snorted slightly, grinning. "I love how you're just so casual after playing that prank." She snickered. "Not even bragging or smirking or anything!"
Remus shrugged slightly, smiling. "Oh course. I'm not exactly a... an unhumble person."
"Until you met us." Sirius butted in, his fingers tapping on the table. "And I wanna continue reading, gimme the damn book back."
Harry feigned shock. "W-what? Padfoot? You're betraying me? You actually want to read?"
"Careful, Harry." Ron warned. "It's probably a disease...Sirius probably caught it from Lupin..."
James's eyes widened comically and he ducked underneath the table, much to the other's confusion. He popped up on the other side in between Fred and George. "Oh hello." He said casually, smiling. "Just trying to escape the disease, sorry for the disturbance."
The twins looked shocked, staring up at James in awe. There was a Marauder next to them. There was a Marauder next to them. "That's alright." They said, wide-eyed. "Stay as long as you want..."
Remus rolled his eyes in amusement and gave the book to Sirius. "Read." He instructed.
Sirius stuck his tongue out at him and cracked the book open once more.
"That was brilliant!" Sirius screamed.
"I didn't know you had it in you!" Shawn yelled.
Remus blushed and looked down.
"Aw, how cute~" Lily cooed teasingly, lightly punching Remus's shoulder.
Remus rolled his eyes and rubbed his arm. "I am not cute." He supplied, smiling. "And who knew the princess had such a punch, hm~?"
Lily laughed softly. "Stronger than my knight? What a tragedy~"
"This again?" James groaned from across the table. "Don't flirt with my wife, Lupin." He warned.
"I am not flirting." Remus retorted.
Sirius grinned and threw his arm around Remus's neck. "Yeah, Jamesie, you should know that~ Remy's too shy to flirt~"
"And I'm not shy." The werewolf sulked, tugging on Sirius's ear. "Release me, hound."
"Fleabag." Sirius retorted, reluctantly releasing Remus with a pout.
"Mutt." Remus huffed, straightening out his clothes.
"Merlin, you both could go on all day with this." Hermione huffed. "Just read, Sirius."
"Oh, I'm being told off by a fifth year!" Sirius groaned. "The horror of it all!"
"Just read." Remus sighed, rolling his pendant between his fingers.
James and Sirius ran up to the bleaches and sat next to Remus as the Gryffindor team started to practice.
"Remy, I can't believe you did that." Sirius said as soon as he sat down.
Remus rolled his eyes. "I'm just not in a good mood today. I needed to do something to get my irritation out."
James smirked at Sirius. "His irritation brings out his prankster side."
Remus eyes widened when he just realized what he said. His fear was amplified by James.
"D'aww, is Remy scared of me~?" James cooed in a baby voice.
Remus's eye twitched and growled slightly. "You're so lucky that you moved, Potter."
"Huh, what did I do?" Harry piped in innocently.
"...ugh, too many Potters." Remus groaned, facepalming. "One was enough."
"But, Professor, I thought you like me!" Harry grinned over at the werewolf.
"Of course, of course." He said sarcastically. "But when you're a Potter, I'm going to get annoyed."
"Awww, but Remyyyy." James whined. "I never did anything!"
Remus shot him a deadpanned look, before smacking the back of the snickering Sirius's head.
"Ay, ay, what'd I do!" Sirius cried, rubbing the back of his head.
"You're not reading." Remus replied with an eye roll.
"Yes. This is good." Sirius replied, smirking as well.
Later that day, the four friends were sitting in the Great Hall talking happily, well three of them were. Remus was starting to get worried. He had to get away from his friends and get to the Hospital Wing soon or he was going to be late and not make it the shack in time.
"That would be terrifying." Jake, a 7th year Hufflepuff whispered to his friend. "Him suddenly turning into werewolf at dinner..."
Heather nodded, biting her lip. "Poor Professor..." He had to deal with that constant fear of being found out... or worse...
Remus was trying to think of an excuse to get away when an owl landed by him. He looked at the owl confused. He didn't recognize the owl, but the letter it was holding was addressed to him. Shrugging, he took the letter.
Dear Remus,
I thought you would need an excuse to get away from your friends since you would spend the whole day with them. Make up and excuse and get to the Hospital Wing.
Albus Dumbledore
Remus folded the letter before turning to his friends. He thought quickly before frowning. "Guys, I have to go."
"Go way?" Sirius asked, concerned when he saw the frown.
"To visit my Aunt Margie.
Harry snorted a little, remembering his Aunt Marge. Heh, beginning of third year was certainly something.
She's deathly ill and my dad says she might die soon…She wants me to visit….b-before that h-happens." Remus took a deep breath, then added. "S-she's my f-favorite aunt."
James looked at Remus sadly. "Okay."
Remus nodded his head at friends and left the hall. When he was out in the hall he sighed. Lying to his friends was not fun.
"Not fun for either side..." James murmured to himself, placing his elbows on the table.
Fred and George glanced at the depressed Marauder then at each other. They had to do something to cheer up… The mentally agreed with each other and nodded, already beginning to cook up ideas on how to cheer up a Marauder.
He ran up the steps and to the Hospital Wing.
Madam Pomfrey was already waiting for him. She handed the traveling cloak to him and ushered him out as soon as he was ready. "Are you okay?"
"I've been better." Remus gulped. "I never like waiting for the full moon to rise."
"What did you tell your friends?" Madam Pomfrey asked. "It will be good for the teachers to know."
Remus nodded his head. "I told them my Aunt Margie was deathly ill and that she might die soon. She wants me to come visit her before that happens, which set up next month's excuse, I guess."
Madam Pomfrey smiled. "With an excuse like this, you aren't going to make a reappearance in school until Tuesday."
"But I'll miss classes!" Remus whined.
"'Whined'?" Seamus repeated.
"Whined?" Dean said, wide-eyed.
"Yes," Remus said dryly. "Whined."
Sirius scoffed and put Remus in a headlock, ruffling his hair. "Stop whining, dork."
Remus growled unhappily and jabbed Sirius in the gut, causing the Animagus to grunt and hug his stomach, releasing Remus in the process. "Ow..."
"And that's why you don't touch a werewolf's hair." Remus deadpanned, running his fingers through his sandy brown locks in an attempt to straighten it out.
Sirius whined softly in pain, giving Remus the kicked puppy look. "That hurt..."
"Stop whining, dork." Remus mocked, picking up the book and lightly tapping Sirius's head. "And start reading again."
The dog huffed and snatched the book from Remus's hand, taking a few seconds to find the right page.
"If you're visiting a deathly ill aunt that is going to die soon, you're going to be gone longer than one day." Madam Pomfrey replied. "Just do as I say or I can go get the Headmaster. I'm sure he'll agree with me. It's for the best. It won't be as suspicious."
Remus huffed and crossed his arms, pouting. "Fine."
Madam Pomfrey set up a private room in the back of the Hospital Wing for Remus since he was to be out of school for a few days. She didn't let Remus out of the Hospital Wing until lunch time on Tuesday. The young nurse told him that all the teachers knew the plan of him being absent until afternoon classes on Tuesday and he couldn't make a reappearance until then.
"Hm, the book didn't mention me trying to sneak out of the Hospital Wing on Monday night..." Remus murmured, mostly to himself.
"Remus!" Lily said sharply, making the werewolf flinch. Dah crap, he didn't think anyone heard him! Of course, it had to be Lily.
"Er….. yes, princess?" Remus said in an attempt to change the subject.
Lily huffed and tugged on Remus's ear, earning a yelp from him. "I can't believe you!"
"What'd Remus do this time?" Sirius grinned in amusement.
"He tried to sneak out of the Hospital Wing that Monday!" Lily snapped.
"L-Lily, c'mon, this was years ago-! L-let go of my ear, damnit, that hurts!" Remus complained, struggling to unclamp Lily's fingers from his ear.
Up at the Head Table, Madam Pomfrey scoffed and glared at Remus. "Oh, I remember that night! Horrible! Complete waste of your sleeping time!"
"You kept me locked up in the Hospital Wing for three days!" Remus complained. "What did you expect me to do? I couldn't just miss classes!"
"And what did you think to do after your little escapade, Mr. Lupin?" McGonagall said sharply. "If you went to class, one of the professors would definitely send you back to the Hospital Wing."
"Well I- It was just-" Remus groaned and rubbed his temples. "Professor, do you really think I remember what was going on in my head at age 11?" He sighed, before indicating to Sirius and James. "Honestly, these idiots probably had already corrupted me at that time."
The two Marauders grinned at each other from across the table, snickered. "Mission accomplished~!" They chimed together.
"...the proof just spoke." Remus stated dryly, indicating to Padfoot and Prongs.
James laughed. "Yeah, but it was always so fun to annoy our wardens."
"Wardens?" Bill asked confused.
Remus laughed. "Professor McGonagall and Madam Pomfrey. We called them our wardens sometimes because we either got locked in detention or in the Hospital Wing because of injuries."
"Brilliant!" Fred and George shouted with grins. Why didn't they ever think of that?
When Remus entered the Great Hall he was immediately greeted by Lily giving him a hug. Surprised, Remus let his body act on its own and hugged back. "Hello Lily."
"Hi Remus. I heard about your Aunt. How is she?" Lily asked, concerned.
"Oh." Remus whispered. "She's still alive. We're not sure for how much longer."
"I'm sorry, Remus." Lily hugged him tighter.
Remus smiled. "Don't be. It's not your fault."
Lily let go of Remus and smiled at him. "Right, well welcome back. If you need any notes for the classes or help on your homework to catch up, come to me. I'll help you."
"Thanks Lils." Remus replied. He smiled at her as he walked over to his friends, who were calling him over. "Hi guys."
"Hi Remus. How's your aunt?" James asked.
"No hug from Mr. Potter?" Luna Lovegood spoke up from her silence, smiling. "It makes me wonder who's a better friend to Professor Lupin; Mr. or Mrs. Potter."
"Just 'cause I didn't hug him, doesn't mean I'm not his best friend." James frowned, glancing at the table with a frown.
"Nice job, Looney." Michael Corner, Ginny's boyfriend, hissed from across her. "You made the famous James Potter sad."
Luna gave him a gentle smile. "The truth hurts sometimes, Michael..."
"Still alive at the moment." Remus replied, feigning sadness.
"That's good." Sirius said. "Anyway, I'm really glad you're back."
Remus tilted his head to the side, confused. "Why?"
"I can stop taking notes now." Sirius said. "I don't think my hand can take taking notes anymore."
James rolled his eyes. "I made Sirius take notes while you were gone since I took them last time you had to go home."
Remus nodded his head. "Thanks Siri."
"You owe me, Remy." Sirius growled.
Sirius immediately rose his arms to block his head. "Don't hurt me!"
Remus rose an eyebrow in amusement, before rolling his eyes. "Read, idiot."
The taller peeked at the werewolf through his fingers. "...you're not gonna hit me?"
"Do you want me to?" Remus smirked, raising a hand.
"Nono!" Sirius shouted, picking up the book. "I'll read; don't hit me!"
Remus smiled as he reached for the chocolate pudding. "What do you want?"
Sirius watched Remus reach for the pudding. "You're addicted to anything chocolate."
"Leave my chocolate addiction alone." Remus growled.
Sirius smirked. "So you admit to having a chocolate addiction?"
Remus blinked. "I ADMIT TO NOTHING!" He yelled, making the Great Hall look at him confused. Remus blushed and looked back at his plate.
"So that's when it happened!" Charlie and Bill shouted with smirks.
Remus sighed.
"I can't believe you still fall for that after all this time." Fred said with a tragic sigh.
"You didn't learn your lesson, dear professor?" George asked with a smirk.
Remus's eye twitched a bit.
James, Sirius, and Peter laughed. "Nice Remy."
"Idiots." Remus hissed. "You never told me what you want, Siri."
"I don't know yet. I'll let you know when I know."
"It's good that you're back, Remus." James replied. "We only have a few more days to perfect our prank. Halloween is in five days."
The twins grinned widely at this and fistbumped behind James's back. They would get to hear about their Halloween prank soon! The first big prank by the Marauders! They squirmed anxiously, wanting Sirius to read faster so they could get to the prank part quicker.
"I won't be able to help you right away." Remus said.
James frowned. "Why?"
"I have homework to catch up on." Remus explained. "I'll probably go to the library with Lily. She'll help me get caught up. What do we still need to do for the prank?"
"We need a way to sign the prank and we need to make the potion." Sirius replied. "James got all the ingredients we need."
"Start the potion without me." Remus whispered. "Do you have the Fanged Frisbee and dungbombs?"
"Quick, write that down!" Fred grinned, pointing at George, who saluted in response and quickly jotted 'Fanged Frisbees and dungbombs' down in their notebook.
"What are you two doing?" Molly snapped, squinting at them suspiciously. She swore, if they ended up causing any more damage to Hogwarts, they would get the swatting of a lifetime! "Let me see that notebook!"
"Mom, this is important!" George complained.
"What, causing more pranks?" Percy scowled from in between Charlie and Fred. "I don't see how that's important."
The twins glared at him angrily. "It may not be important to you, but it's important to us!" they shouted in unison.
"Yeah, Perce, you see the Ministry isn't the most important thing to anyone else but you." Charlie said casually, glancing at Percy out of the corner of his eye to see for any reaction. C'mon… there had to be something left…
Percy didn't say anything in response, but he did flinch. Charlie gave a small smile and turned his head to hide it. His little brother was still in there somewhere. He was sure of it.
Bill exchanged looks with Charlie, as if coming to a silent agreement. They both... really hated Percy for abandoning their family, but he was still their brother. They were supposed to love him, no matter what. But this... this was definitely a big thing to forgive. The two elder Weasley brother nodded slightly to each other, then turned their attention back to Sirius. They would certainly talk to Percy later.
James nodded his head. "Got them Sunday. Are you sure we'll be able to control them with the potion?"
Remus smiled. "Trust me, Jamesie. I wouldn't do anything dangerous. I don't want to hurt anyone."
On Halloween, the third years and above left Hogwarts to go to Hogsmeade. While they were gone, James and his friends decided to start setting up their prank. With most of the students at Hogwarts, there were less people around to spot the four marauders.
James and Peter set off to kitchen, while Sirius and Remus took the invisibility cloak to sneak into the Forbidden Forest. They spent the whole day getting the prank set up.
"Wow, must be one bloody long prank." Ron grinned, eager to hear exactly what these pranksters had done. If it had taken a whole day...
Remus and Sirius were the last one to enter the Great Hall that night. They sat next to James and Peter extremely happy. Remus spent dinner watching everyone in the Great Hall while he ate.
It was about halfway through dinner when Remus saw that someone found a dung bomb in a bowl. He nodded his head at his friends. The dung bomb set off as soon as the girl found it, making the rest of the dung bombs explode, making food explode over everyone and stinking up the Great Hall.
Fred and George immediately started whispering amongst themselves, writing down things in their notebook and snickering. That prank was perfect! Of course, they expected nothing less from the Marauders.
Everyone was distracted by the dung bomb explosion giving Remus time to draw his wand out and use a spell to open the Great Hall doors. A swarm of acromantula came into the Great Hall, running all around the Great Hall, towards students and teachers.
Several people shuddered violently at the thought of those giant... things swarming the Great Hall. They uneasily glanced at the doors, then back at the table. Disgusting...
Ron groaned unhappily. "Why did it have to be spiders? Why not snakes?" he shivered.
Ginny made a face. "I think snakes would've been worse, actually." she murmured.
Two-thirds of the Marauders present exchanged grins. "It's Halloween, Weasleys~!" James grinned.
"Or it was-" Sirius added in.
"Yeah yeah, whatever-" Potter Senior waved his hand at Sirius. "We had to do something! And acromantulas were the best option!"
"And the most dangerous." McGonagall said sharply. "If someone had actually gotten hurt because of this, you would have been suspended, or even expelled."
Sirius grimaced slightly and rubbed the back of his neck, leaning back to grin sheepishly at the professor. "What's in the past stays there, Minnie! No one got hurt!"
McGonagall glared at the Animagus harshly for the nickname. "Lupin, smack him for me." she said coldly.
Remus grinned in amusement, and flicked the back of Sirius' head, making him whine and hold his head with his hands, much to the amusement of the students.
The students all screamed at the sight of the giant spiders and jumped to their feet. They jumped on the table, hid under the table, or ran around the Great Hall to get away from the spiders. James and Peter stared at the spiders wide eyed. "I didn't expect you guys to get so many."
Peter jumped onto the table and rolled across it to get away from an acromantula trying to attack him. "Re…"
"Is that another nickname?" Susan Bones grinned with a small laugh.
Remus made a face. "Oh Merlin, don't give them any ideas..." he grumbled.
James and Sirius exchanged identical grins from across the table and snickered. "Oh Re~" the dog Animagus cooed playfully, wrapping his arm around Remus's neck. Remus scowled and jabbed his elbow into Sirius' side, making him yelp and shrink away, curling against Tonks' side. "Toooonkssyy." he whined unhappily, giving her a kicked puppy look. "Remy's bein' mean!"
Tonks grinned, and decided to play along with Sirius, reaching a hand over to tug on Remus' ear. "Bad wolf." she scolded.
Remus flinched slightly, and scowled slightly, but didn't say anything. Tonks pouted slightly at the lack of reaction, and released the werewolf's ear, much to his relief.
"Relax." Remus mouthed to him. "All part of the act."
James pulled Remus to the side as an acromantula lunged at him. "Are you sure?"
"Trust me. They won't really hurt anyone." Remus growled. "Just trust me on this."
"Yes, trust the devious little brat." Jordan said with a grin. "I mean just because he's a first year doesn't mean he doesn't know what he is doing."
"I hear sarcasm in them." Remus retorted. "And I knew perfectly well what I was doing. I never let them do a prank if I thought something drastically wrong could happen."
The teachers stood up and pulled their wands out to fight the acromantulas.
Peter saw this and ducked under the table. He pulled his wand out and whispered a spell to turn the lights off. This caused the students to yell louder.
Sirius and James took this time to throw all the Fanged Frisbees around the Great Hall.
"Fanged Frisbees too?" Tonks laughed.
"There's no such thing as overdoing it with the Marauders!" James puffed his chest out, sticking a finger to the air.
"I would have to disagree." McGonagall replied, glaring at her past students.
"Psh, you always did, no matter how small the issue was." Sirius retorted.
When they threw them, the Frisbees attacked the students, making them scream in fear, which freaked out the students near them because they thought it was an acromantula attacking near them.
Remus smirked and hid under a table. He muttered a spell and started writing in the air with fire.
"That's so cool..." one of the first-years breathed in awe, fingers twitching to their wand. They wanted to do that too...
Stop with the bloody screaming. You're giving me a headache.
The students and teachers stared at the writing in the air, some people still screamed because they were being bitten by the Fanged Frisbees.
Stop screaming already.
Everyone stared at the message confused. Peter took this as his cue and turned the lights back on.
When the lights were back on, everyone saw little animals that wouldn't hurt them, instead of the acromantulas that were there before. And they saw the Fanged Frisbees that were attacking some students. Their friends helped get the Fanged Frisbees off of them.
Remus climbed out from under the table and sat down. He kept his wand hand hidden under the table.
I hope we didn't scare you all too much.
Many of the students grumbled at this. The students who got bitten by the Fanged Frisbees glared at the message.
We thought it was time to introduce ourselves to this lovely school.
"Who are you?" Dumbledore demanded, though Remus could see his eyes twinkling in amusement.
McGonagall scoffed slightly. Figured that Dumbledore would be glad to have children wreck havoc in Hogwarts...
That isn't any of your business.
"When you attack my students it is my business." Dumbledore said.
Your students are alright. Just a few bites here and there.
Have a wonderful Halloween Hogwarts!
James and Sirius looked at Remus confused.
Remus smiled and shook his head.
Dinner ended soon after that. Many of the students wanted to get out of there after the "acromantula attack" and no one wanted to eat the food after the dungbombs exploded out of it.
Bilius and Shawn were talking in the Common Room after dinner.
"That was awesome. I wonder who did it." Shawn replied. He looked at James and his friends as they came it. "It wouldn't have been you four, would it?"
"What? The prank?" James asked, feigning confusion.
Bilius nodded his head. "Yeah. Did you guys do it?"
"No. That wasn't us." Remus replied.
"We would have made sure everyone knew it was us if we did it." Sirius added.
After hanging in the Common Room for a while, the four friends snuck up to their dorm. In their dorm, Sirius, James, and Peter turned to Remus.
"Why didn't you give our name?" Sirius demanded.
"I thought it would be fun to do a few pranks before giving our name. It would keep them in suspense longer. They'll want to know more and more about The Marauders. It will make you guys more famous if we keep them in suspense." Remus replied.
"That's smart." Bill grinned, folding his hands and resting his chin on them. "Leaving it to the end of the year. When did you reveal yourselves exactly?"
"Before Easter break-" James grinned.
Sirius scoffed. "No, you idiot, it was at the very end of the year."
James frowned, shaking his head. "Lies- It was before Easter break, I remember it clearly."
Bill glanced at Remus with a quirked brow. "Anything to add, Lupin?"
Remus smirked and crossed his arms with a shrug. "Good question. You'll just have to find out for yourselves."
James and Sirius looked at each other and grinned. "Brilliant."
"Fine. We agree. But next time, we are going to vote before we do anything." Sirius said.
Remus shrugged. "Sorry. I thought of it just as we were finishing the prank."
"Next time, we think ahead." James grumbled as he flopped down onto his bed. "The Marauders next prank will be before we leave for Christmas. Any time between now and then will be done by us and not the Marauders, agreed?"
"Yeah." Sirius replied.
Remus rolled his eyes. "Can't you guys cut down on the pranks?"
"NO!" James and Sirius yelled.
Remus raised his hands in defense. "I was just asking. Sheesh!"
"Don't ask that again." James growled.
"Alright." Remus replied.
Sirius sat next to Remus on his bed. "So what was with the acromantulas attacking us to?"
Remus sighed. "I thought it would be so obvious you guys could figure it out. Guess I was wrong."
"Is he calling us stupid?" James asked.
"I think he is." Sirius growled.
"Well that's mostly because you are." Remus smirked, glancing between James across the table and Sirius next to him.
The the ebony-haired Marauders scowled grumpily, and Sirius jabbed Remus's side with his elbow, making the werewolf flinch and flick him back.
"Children, children." Lily sighed, standing up and sitting in between Remus and Sirius. "Sirius, read. Remus, stop teasing them."
Sirius whined unhappily, but quickly flinched and continued reading as the fiery redhead glared at him. Remus snickered, but was quickly shut up as he received a glare as well.
Remus chuckled nervously. "Anyway, the acromantulas attacked us too because if they didn't and people saw they might suspect we were behind the prank."
"Oh. That makes sense." Sirius replied.
"So you gave the potion to bunnies and squirrels?" James asked.
Remus nodded his head. "We couldn't bring real acromantulas into the school. That would be too dangerous."
Ron shivered at the thought, as well as other arachnophobic students. That would be downright terrifying...
"So cute little animals are what scared the students?" Fred asked with a wide grin. Why did they never do anything like this?
Dumbledore's eyes twinkled. "Please refrain from swarming the school with insects and acromantulas, Mr. Weasley and Mr. Weasley."
Fred and George smiled innocently and tore out a notebook page, burning it with a quick spell. "No idea what you're talking about, sir." they said together.
"Confusing." Peter grumbled. "That potion makes no sense. I know it changes their appearances, but how did you control get to them to attack the Great Hall."
Remus shrugged his shoulders. "A simple spell. It confused them and made them go crazy enough to run into the Great Hall and make it looked like they were attacking."
"Nice." James said.
Remus rubbed his eyes, tiredly. "I'm tired so I'm going to bed. Night guys." Remus pushed Sirius off his bed.
"Night Remy!" Sirius and James said.
Remus growled, reaching around Lily to smack Sirius's head. "Don't call me Remy."
"You are too caught up in past, Remy... I literally have two lines left!" Sirius complained. "Could you not hit me so close to the end of the chapter?"
The werewolf scowled slightly, but refrained from hitting him again, in fear of the redhead that was busy glaring at him. Harry grinned slightly over at them. Wow, his mom certainly had them wrapped around her pinky finger...
"Night all." Peter said. He climbed into bed and fell asleep.
James and Sirius soon joined the two into going to sleep.
"Aaaand finished~!" Sirius announced, slamming the book down, causing several people to jump slightly at the loud noise.
"Alrighty then!" Tonks grinned brightly. "Who wants to read next!"
"I will!" James declared, leaning his entire body on the table to try and grab the book.
Lily rolled her eyes, exasperated, and stole the book before James could grab it. "No, I think I'll read."
"But Lilyyyy!" James whined, flailing his limbs a little from the awkward position he was in. "I wanted to read!"
"What's this?" Remus gasped. "The Great James Potter... wanting to read? Impossible- This is not the real James Potter!"
Sirius grinned slightly, easily following along. "Oh woe is me-!" Remus cleared his throat. "-I mean us! Our wonderful friend... he has broken one of the sacred rules! Marauders shant read!"
Several of the students snorted, muttering to each their friends about how they wished the Marauders went to Hogwarts during their time. They were so funny!
"Oh Merlin." Lily groaned, lightly smacking both Sirius's and Remus's heads with the book. "Calm down you two." she raised an eyebrow at the stag Animagus that was still on the table. "James dear, you can read next if you sit back down."
James pouted, but obeyed, sulking slightly in his seat. Fred and George grinned at each other, both cooing reassuring words and stroking James's arms. "Shhh, Mr. Potter~ There there~"
The older Potter shivered slightly. "Oh Merlin- Save my soul."
