The Forgotten Journal

Karl POV

I smiled as she grasped my hand tightly and started to pull me along behind her. I could feel her pulse jumping around as she got closer and closer to her destination. It was a little book store and cafe that she had found a few weeks ago. I tugged at her hand and pulled her closer to me so that we could walk side by side.

She smiled sheepishly. "Sorry," she said. "I'm just so excited. You are going to love it. There's such a wide selection of books that are just on the wall and you can read them while you eat or drink coffee. And it smells devine."

Her eyes sparkled as she talked and I couldn't help grinning. "I can't wait to get there either, Avery, but I would also like to enjoy this nice walk on a nice day with my beautiful girlfriend." I stopped and pulled her into a tight hug.

She rested her head on my shoulder easily. We stayed like that for a few minutes, just enjoying the feel of the other, then she started stuttering. "K-k-k-Karl," she managed to get out. I stroked her hair while she worked on gathering her thoughts. "I-I-I..." She took a deep breath. "I love you."

My hand stopped. I could feel her tense up, probably afraid of what I might say. She needn't have worried. With that selfsame hand, I cupped her cheek and gently arranged it so that she was looking me in the eye. I leaned down and kissed her. It started out tentative and then gradually grew.

Suddenly, someone obnoxiously called out, "I'd rather make out in front of a library. Then I wouldn't have and audience!"

We broke apart. I still had a hand on her face and I said, "I return the sentiment completely."

End of Prologue. Let me know what you think. :)
