Hey all! So, here's a tiny tiny drabble for you all… It's finals week, and I'm utterly drained, but this begged to be written. I apologize deeply for the drama and angst and tragedy and YES I'm so sorry...

Don't worry. My other Enjolras chapter books will be updated soon… Just let me survive this week and I shall get to work on them again! I apologize for keeping you all waiting so long!

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

Hold the Flag High, Little Darling

"No…No!" Enjolras screamed, forgetting the fact that there was the National Guard below… Forgetting the fact that he could have most likely survived if he had just kept his trap shut because they would have thought he was dead...

Dead like Courfeyrac and Joly...

And Combeferre.

And suddenly Enjolras was numb. Dead. Everything tingling and cold and hot all at once as he took a stumbling step away from the body of his friends...

His brothers...

My brother no no no Combeferre you're not dead wake up wake up WAKE UP!

"WAKE UP!"

But he didn't say that… Did he? Did he scream just then?

No… Because he couldn't scream he couldn't breathe he couldn't do anything, not without Combeferre...

Combeferre kept him alive, Combeferre kept his broken heart pumping, Combeferre kept him going, and without Combeferre there was no life there was no cause there was nothing…

Let others rise to take our place...

And in a breath he was at the window and he was ready to jump. The flag was in his hand… When did he pick up the flag…? And he would make one last stand but he was going to jump...

"Freeze!"

The guards were suddenly around him. The firing squad was aiming their rifles at his chest.

Well. Let them shoot.

Combeferre was dead.

And therefore so was Enjolras.

But he still loved the people. He still loved the cause.

And he thought about it, and he hated himself for almost jumping.

How stupid of him.

How selfish of him.

How… un-Combeferreish of him.

He crossed his arms.

He rose his head.

And he smiled.

Totally short and very unlike my usual writing style, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Ha.

Shot.

I'm sorry it's finals week have pity on me.
