Gibbs was in his basement finishing the last of the Christmas gifts for the children at G.W. Children's Hospital. He had a bag full of wooden trains, boats, cars, trucks, dolls, birdhouses, doghouses, dogs, cats, and small toy boxes.

He had his old radio on when he heard this children's Christmas start: "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas". Listening to the song he remembered Kelly coming home when she was 5 from school and started singing this song.

Flash back

"Daddy, Daddy, guess what Christmas song we learned at school today?"

"Jingle bells?' he asked

"No silly"

"I know Rudolf the red nosed reindeer?"

"No silly goose" she said

"Well then, what song is it, can you sing it for me."

"Ok" then Kelly starts the song

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

-Shannon walks in and chuckles as her daughter is singing about a hippopotamus. Jethro had humor in his eyes as he tries not to laugh listening to his daughter sing the next versus.-

song continues

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door, that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegetarian

- Shannon can no longer keep a straight face and starts to laugh at the verses as her daughter looks so serious-

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his message
I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

At the end of the song Kelly looks at her parents who are laughing openly "So can I have a hippopotamus for christmas ... please please"

"Sorry Kelly honey" said her daddy "but we have no space for one even if they are a vegetarian, but I am sure Santa will bring you something just as special."

"Ok daddy but are you sure" looking at her mommy she ask "mom please"

"Sorry Kelly honey I agree with your dad this time"

Kelly sighs and ask do you want to hear the other song we learned today.

"Yes" respond Shannon and Jethro.

Kelly starts off the new song "Grandma got run over by a reindeer..."

End of flash back

"Hey Gibbs, got the truck warmed up" said Tony. Looking back at his boss and mentor. " You ok?"

"Yeah was just listening to a Christmas song that reminded me of Kelly."

"Which one?"

"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" Gibbs replied

"I loved that one and really was hoping my dad would get me one" said Tony with fond memories.

"Come on DiNozzo Santa has some deliveries to make" watching as Tony picks up the one of the bags of toys and heads for the truck out front of hte house.

Gibbs picks up the other bag when he hears a voice say "Merry Christmas daddy, I love you, and I still want that hippopotamus"

The next voice he hears is Shannon's saying "Merry Christmas Jethro and no Kelly you may not have a hippopotamus."

"Merry Christmas my Shannon, Kelly I miss you"
