Introductions
I first broke into fanfic with my "Moment"/mannequin stories under the name "waxing poetic" on Aria in 2005. I finally posted them here in 2018. I was jennyfair on the now-defunct Phantom forums (PFN, PPN, POL, etc.) and you can still find me on deviantART, but I've been inactive for years. In July 2018 I joined Tumblr as jennyfair7.
I've loved The Phantom of the Opera in most of its incarnations since the early 90s. My first real exposure to POTO was the Charles Dance miniseries, which also inspired my first piece of fanart. While I'd heard some of the music before, it was finally seeing the ALW musical live in 1996 that really sparked my love for the story. My first experience with phic was Nicola Waters and her brilliant Leroux fill-ins, which had a significant influence on me because I still love (and personally only write) one-shots.
I try not to neglect Leroux, though I freely admit I prefer the ALW musical. I love the 1989 film with Robert Englund and think it's underrated. Englund can be very Leroux-ish at times, a great balance of sadistic and adoring. On the other hand, I think Kay is often given too much credit, especially when taken to be canon over Leroux! Oh, I devoured the story when I found it around the same time I first saw the musical (and many times after that), but there are several aspects of the book I don't agree with. I'm also an advocate for the David Staller musical! It's another diamond in the rough when it comes to resurrecting usually ignored elements of Leroux's story like the Persian and Erik's arrogant nature. Basically, I'm willing to give any version a try...even a certain sequel, although I have Issues and Feelings surrounding LND.
