Welcome!

I'm just a guy writing a story or two for fun.

Age: North of 30.

I have more university degrees and letters after my name than is probably healthy.

I've been a fan of Superman and Star Wars for as long as I can remember.

I discovered Harry Potter a few years ago (more than a few at this point), and he has since become the major focus of my fanfic perusals.

I firmly believe that our world needs heroes.

And yes, I really do own and wear that hat.

For some further story-specific notes, see my forums: https://www.fanfiction.net/myforums/Raven3182/1718773/

I've found over the years that I really kind of enjoy interacting with my readers. So if you leave a review, you can expect a private message in reply from me. Feel free to ask questions too - just know that I won't be giving out any spoilers.

A Few Story Notes

WORKS IN PROGRESS

Holocron. (Updated May 5, 2018) A Star Wars/Harry Potter Crossover. Life is still crazy. I'm still writing when I can. In a recent stroke of bad luck I had some major computer issues lately. Fortunately, I had backups. Unfortunately, they weren't the most up-to-date versions of what I've written. So that's a bit of a set back. No promises on when the next chapter will be, but it will come eventually.

The point of this story is to explore what might happen if Harry was to learn about the Force at a young age. He finds the Holocron, and things unfold from there. This isn't a wish fulfillment exercise or fix-it fic, so I won't be writing things based on how cool it might be - I'm trying to explore how the Force might really impact the plot. That being said, Jedi are cool, so hopefully it will also be fun. Holocron probably won't be as long as HP & KoRH, and I'm going to try and keep the story moving at a bit of a faster pace, but we'll see how that works out.

After responding to some reviews and private messages, I've decided to create a forum for Holocron in much the same vein as I did for HP & KoRH. Every once in a while I'll probably post something that might be of interest to you if you're following the story, or if you care about my head-canon regarding Star Wars or Harry Potter in general. If there are any spoilers to be had within, I'll try to post a warning in the topic heading. I've already posted some of my thoughts about Jedi philosophy that you might find interesting. Currently Untitled Sequel to Harry Potter and the Knight of the Radiant Heart. (Updated October 23, 2017) On Hold for now while I focus on Holocron. I've got good news and bad news. The good news is I've actually started writing the sequel to HP & KoRH. I've got extensive notes and a few roughly drafted chapters written. The bad news is that I've kind of stalled in both my motivation for writing the story and in my attempts to find a satisfying conflict. I'm not sure where I'm going with this at the moment. Part of me thinks that HP & KoRH has a satisfying ending as it is, and that I shouldn't try to add anything more to it. Another part of me kind of wants to keep exploring the world as I left it. It's probably going to be a long while before I post anything, if I ever do at all...

COMPLETED WORKS

Harry Potter and the Knight of the Radiant Heart is the fruit of many years of reading fan fiction. In particular, it comes from the fact that after years of reading, it was becoming harder and harder for me to find good, well-written stories that I enjoyed. So I decided to write my own. That is the primary reason for this story’s existence. I try very hard to have my characters, especially Harry and Hermione, act in a natural way. They might not always be logical (but then again, human beings rarely are) but I hope that anyone reading would be able to say, “Yeah, people really do act like that.”

I've decided that I'm going to start going through the story an remove many of the clunky, unnecessary author's notes. They just get in the way of reading the story. Anything that I think is still helpful for clarification will be moved to my forums. I'll also post a few review responses to particular concerns about the story in the forum as well. Harry Potter and the Ranger and the Miniature Giant Space Hamster is meant to be a (hopefully) humorous, crack!fic/out-take/omake alternative to HP & KoRH. In a review of HP & KoRH, someone requested a scene where Harry and Hedwig did some dialogue like Minsc and Boo from the Baldur’s Gate series. If you don’t know who Minsc and Boo are, you’re missing out on two of the greatest characters in RPG history, IMHO. Anyways, I didn’t think that Harry could realistically start talking like Minsc, but I did get an idea for a scene: what if things had gone a bit differently and instead of Keldorn, a different character was brought to Hogwarts from the Forgotten Realms? And then I had an idea for a second scene. And then I thought that maybe having an omake at the end of a chapter might disrupt the flow of the original story. So I decided to remove it from HP & KoRH and give it its own fic! Don’t look for silly things like storylines or plots or consistency. Boo says that Heroes do not need such things! It's more scattered than Minsc after one too many blows to the head!

Please note that the chapters are posted in no particular order - I just put them up as I thought of them. Therefore, don't look too hard for any type of continuity or chronology. There's only the general concept. Unless otherwise noted, of course. Reading HP & KoRH is encouraged, but probably not required for following the story.

The story is marked as complete, but I reserve the right to add more in the future if I ever have any good ideas and the urge to write them down.

As for Discernment, I was new to fan fiction and I got excited and just had to write something. It's not very good. It's based on a story arc in the Superman comics called "For Tomorrow" from 2004-2005. In it, Superman is looking for advice and talks to a priest. But the priest ends up transforming into some kind of killer robot at the end because comic books. I thought that was silly and I wondered what would really happen if Superman went to speak with a priest. Thus, Discernment. I think it’s a bit heavy-handed overall. If you’ve got nothing better to do, give it a read, just know that your mileage may vary.
