"Home is behind, the world ahead.

And there are many paths to tread.

Through shadow, to the edge of night.

Until the stars are all alight.

Mist and shadow, cloud and shade.

All shall fade, all shall fade."

Peregrin Took, Lord of the Rings

"I sometimes wonder if it's true, that who is what and what is who." Pooh Bear

At Plato's Symposium around 400 B.C. Aristophanes posited a theory which could explain human angst. Humans, he suggested, were at one time double-sided creatures having two heads, four arms and four legs. In this form they became powerful and arrogant, angering the gods. Zeus was sent to solve the problem; this he did by cleaving everyone in two with a huge sword. Since then humans have been searching for the other, lost part of themselves in order to feel complete again. As Aristophanes put it, "...human nature was originally one and we were whole."

I want to thank Kimsa Ki-Lurria. She's an amazing author, and I hope all Maximum Ride fans get the chance to read one of her stories, In Reverence, at some point in their lives. I hope she doesn't mind, but I want to put a quote from the last chapter of In Reverence here. Here it is:

"'It's scary, sometimes,' she said, wrapping her lower arms around each other, 'how fragile human life is. Most of us go through life without really understanding that we're not immortal. We don't think about what would happen if we were crippled or if we got in an accident and were never the same again. And then, when it does happen…'

I felt my face turn grim. 'It's unexpected.'"

Thanks for checking out my profile, and feel free to read my fanfics or send me a private message! Thanks!!!
