Greetings and salutations! Due to some serious miscalculations I no longer have access to my original account here. Don't ever delete an email address before you change everything over to the new one.

Anyway, I AM Starrarose here, eventually I may completely revise the stories that are posted under that profile but first I need to get hold of the administrators here so I can explain that it's not plagiarism, it's the same person behind the accounts.

June 14 2011

I've been reading a lot of profiles in the past few weeks and I thought I'd throw my hat out there in the ring on the off chance that someone eventually comes and reads the fics I'm in the process of remodelling/writing.

Pet Peeves with the Potter Universe.

Canon!Ginny

She's a fan girl. One who comes across as willing to do anything to get her celebrity. I do not like her as written by JKR as a love interest for Harry "I loathe my fame" Potter.

Ron with Hermione

This is an abusive relationship. Arguing to the point of one of the people in the discussion being in TEARS is not UST it's abuse plain and simple. She is the most driven and loyal character in the book - he's a lazy git who has no sense of loyalty to anyone.

Molly Weasley

Being generous, Harry spends... a month maybe at the Burrow prior to year 4 and he's "Like a son to me"? Yeah... right. Also the whole giggling with a 12 year old and a 13 year old about "love potions"? Yeah mind altering substances that take away the choice of the person you use them on. Oh look - Rohypnol.

Severus Snape

He spends 7 years abusing the son of the woman he supposedly loves. I don't give a hoot if he also does a few small things that help Harry out - 7 YEARS of verbal abuse - sanctioned by his employer no less. This is wrong. He's a git. Sure, there are writers who have redeemed him slightly in my eyes - most of whom have him find out that - oh look Harry's home life is JUST LIKE HIS WAS.

Dumbledore

He's either a senile old bastard who should never be allowed anywhere near the welfare of children or a Dark Lord in his own right. He sent Harry to the Dursley's KNOWING that he would be abused. Yes people, witholding food, locking someone in a CUPBOARD, taking swings with a frying pan and encouraging your son who is less than 3 months older to "poke him with your Smeltings Stick" is ABUSE. And Dumbledore knew about it. His entire plan for dealing with a Horcrux (We'll get to those plot holes later) was for Harry to WILLINGLY SACRIFICE HIMSELF FOR EVERYONE ELSE.

Horcruxes

Hello the plot holes big enough to drive a Mack truck through. Killing someone is enough to split the soul? So Voldemort was the only person in the first war to kill? No? Then how the HELL did Harry "My mother died for me and created something strong enough to rebound the killing curse and anchor blood wards off because she loved me so much" Potter end up with ONE IN HIS HEAD?

Now that I've got that off my chest - and yes, when I eventually get the stories I have in planning posted you'll see how I deal with the huge plot holes - that my 7 year old son can see - I understand why all of them are there - well... not really a lot of the stupid things Dumbledore does, but everything else makes perfect sense to me. As long as the first and foremost thing you remember about the Harry Potter series is the age group that it was ORIGINALLY targetted at - and what happened before books 5, 6 and 7 were written. JKR says she didn't write for an age group - her publishers aimed the books at the 9 to 11 age group. Sadly, books 5, 6 and 7 didn't fit that age group.

Books 1 through 4 were written as BOOKS. Before she wrote book 5... JKR sold the rights to the first 4 books to Warner Brothers so they could be made as films. Books 5, 6 and 7 were written with a film coming from them in mind.

Keeping that in mind, I can see how there was no choice but to have Harry end up with Ginny and Ron end up with Hermione, even if I AM a die hard Harmonian and can give examples of a Harry/Hermione romantic relationship all through the first 4 books - before she realised that "grown ups" were reading the series and OMG the Happily Ever After just won't work because for all that Ginny said maybe 30 words in the first 4 books she was STILL the second most fleshed out female character to that point - and Ron couldn't marry his SISTER.

Snape was never made more than 2 dimensional because as a 2 dimensional BOOK character, he works fine as he is. Same for Dumbledore and the Dursleys. As children's book characters they are fine as they are - it's only when the "grown ups" start reading that the whole thing falls apart.

I like the books. I loathe the epilogue - not because of who people ended up with, but because for all they went through - Death Eaters are still walking around free, people still hate Slytherin, and last but certainly not least - it reads as if it was tacked on the end by an editor - not written into the original story! When you consider that the first book was written in 1995 and the last one published in 2007 though - that's 12 years of hard slog writing and selling the books.

So yes, there are huge plot holes, romances that anyone with an objective mind can look at and say "I don't care what "anvil sized hints" you want to drop that is just WRONG" about, one must remember that the books were written for children - not for adults. And if those huge gaping plot holes WEREN'T there - would there be the possibility of over half a million fanfics written? Just for Harry Potter alone?

Just to finish up - Thanks JKR, for writing this and more thanks for letting us play in your sandbox.

Pet peeves about Harry Potter FanFiction

Summer after 5th year. 9 times out of 10 there is something along the lines of "Harry didn't want to start his homework". WHAT HOMEWORK? They didn't know what classes they qualified for, let alone got in to, until AFTER the OWL scores came out, having them sit down to do "homework" before those letters come is jarring, annoying and just plain silly.

October 2011

I'm attempting to write again, thought I'd start with a couple of challenges, and as usual, I've come up against the problem that I have when I want to write. The background material that I have is in depth, detailed, and I have attempted to cover all possible plot holes - unfortunately, this means that I've spent the past 4 months writing back ground things and I'm having issues actually starting stories *facepalm*
