I love reading. It's an inherited affliction.
My grandfather was an English teacher. He wasn't the kind of English teacher who focuses upon proper grammar and sentence structure but the kind who loves books. Grandpa loved to read, taught his students to love to read, and taught his family to love to read. Every room in his house had at least one bookcase and the basement looked like it could have belonged to the local public library.
Grandpa read to his grandbabies on his lap before we could even speak. We haltingly read to our proud grandfather when we were little children. He beamed when he found out I'd stayed up all night reading on a school night. He chuckled and gave me a hug when he discovered that I had cried at the ending of "Where the Red Fern Grows". He gave me a new book every Christmas, every birthday, and at most major events in my life. Even after his death his books remain a treasured inheritance.
The other night I found that my daughter had stayed up unto four in the morning reading. I knew that Grandpa would have been proud to see another generation of bookworms.
Grandpa left a legacy that I pray continues for many generations to come.
