Well, today's the day I finally decided to put *something* into this huge blank space, on my profile page...It's only taken me 5 years to get up the courage!

I love reading fan fiction, which I only discovered online about 7 years ago, but I started reading and collecting Star Trek novels back in the '70s! So I guess one could say I've been a fanfiction fan, for just about as long as there's been Fan Fiction. At one time, I had an original hard copy of Alan Dean Foster's 1st Star Wars fan fiction novel, "Splinters of the Mind's Eye", published in 1978, in which, for the first time, outside of George Lucas' mind, of course, was published the idea that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father! I always sort of wondered how George felt about that?

I became a bibliophile when I got my first library card when I was 4, but I became a biblioholic when my class was introduced to Greek and Roman mythology, in First Grade! (Southern California Schools, in general and South Pasadena, CA schools, in particular, were awesome in the '60s and '70s! They still believed in helping each child reach their potential, in those days, but an understanding of and tolerance for ADHD was decades in the future; so my 161 I.Q. and mixed 'brilliant'/poor performance made for elated/disappointed/p.o.'d teachers. :sigh: C'est la vie!)

I immediately fell in love with Fantasy & Science Fiction and got my first subscription to Analog: Science Fiction and Fact magazine when I was 9 (I had to 'suffer' with reading back issues and 'waiting my turn' for the newest issues, in the library, from age 7 to 9. :whimper; whine: I had to wait until I had my 1st job (babysitting), so I could afford the subscription!) and signed up for the Science Fiction Book of the Month and the Fantasy Book of the Month Clubs--Mistake! I can't emphasize enough that a 10-year-old, ADHD child shouldn't be given carte blanche in signing up for a book club!! Yeah, I got to pick out 20 of the Best Science Fiction and Fantasy books. Each. Up to that time. For a penny. Each club. But I was 17 years old before I got out of those obligations and can't tell you how many times I had to ship the Club Selections back because I hadn't sent the refusal card back in time!! It really was an ugly period of time and I don't want to talk about it anymore.;( :sniff: ;D

I'm going to stop there for now, but next time I'm going to tell why I really decided to start posting some stuff here and it ain't gonna be pretty. You've been warned...;-D
