I discovered fanfiction while reading the comments section on a Lord of the Rings fan page in the early 2000s. Someone had posted a whole story about Rose Gamgee and the Red Book of Westmarch, and it was really good! It felt like a continuation of the story I loved-- the author had really nailed the style/voice, the plot was engaging, and the grammar and punctuation were flawless. Around the same time, Cassandra Claire's hilarious Very Secret Diaries were going as close to viral as anything ever did back then. I didn't know then that I was reading fanfic, but I've been reading and reviewing ever since!
I hope to eventually contribute some of my own writing. As a reader, I know that any decent new story is better than no new story :) I appreciate every one of you authors and betas. You have so much talent, and your work brings happiness (and occasionally angst, lol) to a lot of people.
Current obsession: Community (TV). So many talented writers! Here, Season 7 is real (and 8, and 10, and 35, #andamovie...), everybody gets a deeper backstory, Troy comes home, Britta isn't the worst, Craig IS a good dean (mostly), Abed finds love in all kinds of pairings, Shirley gets more storylines and a closer relationship with Jeff, Jeff and Annie's UST gets resolved in all kinds of creative ways, Annie's personality and motivations and feelings are deeply explored, Frankie and Elroy get to stick around, and we all get to meet Sebastian. It's not just a fandom, it's a Community.
Other fandoms I've dabbled in: The Office (US), Anne of Green Gables/Green Gables Fables, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Star Trek 09, Little Women, Hunger Games, Twilight, Kissing in the Rain, Jane Eyre/Autobiography of Jane Eyre, Downton Abbey
Favorite pairings: Jim/Pam (The Office), Jeff/Annie (Community), Spock/Uhura (Star Trek 09)
OTP: Jo/Professor Bhaer (Little Women) (cue Dido singing "I will go down with this ship...")
