“Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon.” - G.K. Chesterton, Tremendous Trifle
I am older than I would like to admit, but relatively new to Fanfiction.net. My Fanfiction interest started with X-Files, SG-1 and Xena many years ago on fan run archives and mailing lists. I got this account when I found Noir in 2013. Current interests are Noir, RWBY, X-Men and Batwoman.
As for the quote above, it is my answer to why I still read fanfiction, watch cartoons, and read fiction in general at my age - even adults need to be reminded that the dragons can be slain. Besides... it is fun! ;-)
