I like to write, as you can probably tell. Mostly I
read and write slash fanfiction. The fandoms I have written stories for
are Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, and Lord of the Rings, but my LotR
story is quite awful by my standards. I'm currently working on a fanfic
based on the game Thief: Deadly Shadows, as well as a Mary-Sue parody
set in Mercedes Lackey's world of Velgarth.
I've removed my stories because of the site's "policy that has always been
there but was never stated or AFAIK acted upon before": "If you did not write it, do not post it. This has always been our policy. Please remove these
entries immediately to avoid account closure." A friend emailed them asking "
Would use of dialogue and/or scenes from the movie/TV show/book fall under this ban?" They replied "Yes...
Avoid using any material you have not written and not in the public
domain." In my opinion, this policy is absolutely ridiculous, because
it will cut down on the amount of stories on the site by a very large
amount, a lot of those stories will be good, and some of them will use maybe one line of dialogue from an original, non-PD work. The mods probably won't examine the story to see if it warrants deletion, and, say, one story out of 60 causing an account to be deleted is just overkill. The removal of my stories is a protest. My stories can now be
found on my blog
().
