Hi to whoever's reading this. I'm sort of new here, but then again, I'm not. Having been on the site plenty enough as a reader for the last waytoomany years, I feel pretty comfortable on it.
I enjoy reading and writing, but bad grammar is almost physically painful to me. As much as I read, I actually tend to fall into fandoms through fics, usually via a good crossover.
I'm currently binging Batman genfics, Harry Potter fics (Harmony and Jily), and a variety of Naruto fics (mainly gen and time-travel fix-its). I will always be in the mood for a good Merlin fic.
Random facts about my writing:
1. Petunia's Next Great Adventure is the first fic I've posted, but not the first I've ever written. It also actually started out as a character analysis in my world-building for a couple similar-but-different HP fics I was writing (of which Magic Intervenes is only one idea). I'd been coming up with backstory to flesh out the deteriorating of Lily and Petunia's relationship and what it may have looked like, and then I suddenly realised that the incidents I'd created to use as memories could fit together in a fic on their own with a little tweaking.
2. Merlin Snippets had been an ongoing, sporadically-added-to story that I'd wanted to write but could never put together properly for something like 6 or 7 years until I posted it last year.
3. Magic Intervenes is one of about 3, maybe 4, HP fic ideas where Sirius somehow gets to raise Harry (because I'm firmly against child abuse).
4. I've got about 75 pages worth of world-building/plot/OMG-THIS-IDEA-IS-AWESOME for MI in Microsoft Word, and every time I sit down to write it, something else crops up. I'm pretty sure I have more fun coming up with the world-building than actually writing the fic sometimes. To be perfectly honest, now that I think about it, I think the fic was actually more of a way for me to put all the bits and pieces of my world-building together. I was just so proud of myself when I re-read that first chapter after I'd typed it that I was confident enough to post it.
5. I'd initially planned for MI, to have an African OC lead, but when I did a little research, it seemed that a Caribbean person (aka 'West Indian' as we call ourselves here) was more historically accurate (...well. As historically accurate as anything could be about secret magical society and a baby who had to fight an old psycho)
6. I'm toying with the idea of posting another of my HP fix-it wild tangent ideas, but it would be even more sporadically update than the MI, since it was really just an idea that grabbed me one day when I was actually supposed to be doing something else. If persons want to read what I currently have for it, I'll upload it (and if anyone is inspired enough to complete it somehow, I'd be interested in reading it. I don't claim to be some great author, but I know there are some really talented people out there capable of taking an idea and running with it).
7. Because I know it would be a turn-off for some and I'd rather not mislead anyone (even unintentionally), I'm stating here and now that I hate both Dumbledore and Snape (for differing reasons, but the point stands). I've got my own interpretation of who each man was, based on reading between the lines and considering them like people with faults and contrary human emotions/behaviours. My views don't necessarily match up with either their rabid supporters or their rabid haters, and I consider their strengths as well as their weaknesses. I just find them both to be ultimately weak of character (which is different to considering them weak characters), and while some people may rationalise/downplay certain things about them, I do not and won't pretend to. So if you like those characters, my writing may not be for you because if and when they show up, they won't be held in an ultimately positive light (but I won't portray them caricatures of the devil or evil incarnate either). Just fair warning I guess.
I hope you enjoy your time browsing on this site, and that my writing has brought you even just a little enjoyment.
Happy reading!
